I am regretting not bidding more on a beautiful pre-9085 burgundy duffel sac yesterday. It was in great condition and I have been looking for a NYC burgundy one for months.
A burgundy NYC Duffle Sac? Must have missed it. A lot seems to be sneaking under my radar lately. Those indeed are HTF. If I stumble upon one in my watching, I'll be sure to let you know.

It was titled as red, but it was definitely burgundy, It ended at 375.00 with several bidders. I have been looking so long, I should have bid more. The bottom of the attache is coming loose. When I was rinsing it, tons of nicotine started coming off the cloth lining. So I ended up washing that too, and the cardboard in the bottom warped. The leather is so dry it feels brittle, so it may be a lost cause. If I can restore some moisture to the leather I will probably just use as is, with the cracks in the color.

Oh, I did see it. Indeed quite nice. And it looks like my "friend" (d***d(635)) who also grabbed up the black one of the three early center-seam Duffle Sacs that were sold within the past ten days, snatched this one too. Once upon a time I could usually "translate" the buyer info using the feedback number or by mapping listings for flipped items when resellers use separate buying and selling accounts and venues, but now I only do that when I'm curious as to who's driving pricing trends for certain styles.

ETA: I believe that d***d(635) = ebay seller pad61

The cardboard panels buried in the older style bags are a constant problem, especially when they've gotten wet, and doubly so when the tangs for the metal feet were used to retain the panel in place. Excellent replacements though can be made using 1/8" (brown) hobby board.

I'd recommend that you continue to hand-rub moisturizer into the leather. I'm not sure what products you use, but both Chamberlain's Leather Milk and Apple Brand Leather Conditioner have yielded good results for me (as has COACH's own moisturizer, but only because I get that at half price at the outlet that's around the corner). Once the leather becomes pliable again, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a going over with a high-quality dye as it may help stabilize and preserve it better. Both Saphir's Teinture Francaise and Tarrago's Self-Shine Color Dye products have worked well for me, depending on the application. I would avoid using Tarrago Quick Color: I tried it once as an experiment and found that it's not really suitable for bags.

This may be the cutest Coach bag I've ever seen! Too bad it's way out of my budget right now.

When it rains, it pours. And another one also priced high (but, "J4D," is it authentic?). Like many styles, the sales history for #9955 Trail Bags shows values all over the place. They do pop up in the $40-$70 range though. Will keep you in mind if I see a reasonably priced one. I've only seen them in brown, black, and red. Were other colors available? And does anyone know when did the bias tape on the zipper change from black to coordinating color?

Thanks! I would love to find one for a reasonable price.

WARNING !!!!!

THAT RED "TRAIL BAG" WITH THE J4D- SERIAL PREFIX IS FAKE, PLEASE DON'T BID ON IT! THE SERIAL FONT IS COMPLETELY WRONG FOR THAT PLANT AND YEAR.
The font used for the serial number and especially for the "No" is wrong. The D plant had a very distinctive serial font that was used all through the 1990s. The digits had a "square" look and the underline under "No" was tiny. Above is an example from August 1994, the J month code was September.

And as RLBernstein pointed out, the fabric backing on the zipper would never have been black. Please report it if you can.

There's no way to tell about the brown one without a creed and serial photo.

I already sent the seller a message requesting a photo of the creed and serial number. Just waiting for a reply. I'll authenticate it before I bid. Thanks!

BTW, a quick "Heads Up" - there are several fakes in Current and Completed that list their serial numbers as ending in -9955 but aren't Trail Bags, they are shaped like a stubby smaller City Bag but with a different strap design. Unfortunately only one in Completed actually shows a clear photo of the creed and number. One or two may be older bags with all number serials, but at least one clearly shows a serial number of X6G-9955 whick is a confirmed fake with an invalid month code. Please DON'T report the ones that aren't showing a photo of the creed and serial - that always applies unless there are other proofs a bag is fake - but DON'T buy any bag without clear serial photos. Assume any -9955 bag is a potential fake whether it looks like a Trail Bag or something else, and be extremely careful, have it authenticated here before buying.
