Oh, that would be beautiful! They're out there, stay vigilant! I really wanted that rust marketing tote that was on Etsy but $500 was too steep for me. I do kinda regret not buying it.
Oh yeah, I kept visually fondling that rust Marketing tote for longest time. Since I got that golden, mystery style extra big Shopping Bag in February, for cheap, that had kept me from any serious trigger pulling. Well, until my red Organizer Caddy and Carrier Bag.

Hi all,

I am totally new to vintage Coach (and Coach in general) and just found a bag on Etsy that I love the design of, the Casino bag. I asked the seller if anything had been done to it and she said it had been dunked and conditioned and has minor corner wear but otherwise in great condition. I had it authenticated on this forum.

I was just curious whether a dunked Coach bag is considered inferior in any way (forgive my ignorance!)? Also if anyone has any tips on whether they think this is a good buy, I would love to hear your input!

PS the bag is from 1994. Would the hardware be solid brass? Or is it a coated metal?

Dunking usually improves a bag. Most of us do it. I don't think the hardware is solid brass. It is probably plated.

I have a dark navy blue, glovetanned saddle style bag (a flap with turnlock closure) from over 20 years ago. I am on the fence about rehabbing it. Would like to get your opinions on this.

1. There are scuffs on the corners where the top layer of the leather has rubbed off, and the texture is suede-like. There is no color loss. What can be used to improve the texture and prevent further damage?

2. The flap is overtly wrinkled and softened where the fold is. I'd like to reshape and make it stiffer if possible. Is a dunk-and-wash enough? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you for the info!

Do you know when the Casino bag debuted?

I am also interested in knowing what year Coach stopped using solid brass hardware. I‘d love to get one with the solid brass.

Thanks again!
I don't have a lot of information about the Casino bag; I think it was introduced around 1994. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

One of the reasons they stopped using solid brass is because of the weight. Most bags made in the mid to late 70s and early 80s have solid brass. There are some stewardesses, couriers and duffle sacs from that era with solid brass. The buckles will be stamped solid brass. There are also some bags with skinny buckles that are solid brass, but because they are skinny, they aren't stamped. These will all be precreed or have NYC creeds.

Some 90s lines used solid brass hardware, like Madison and possibly Dakota. The 2006 Legacy line used solid brass. Those bags are heavy and had problems with verdigris. There are probably others I'm forgetting.

Pictures would help. A dunk usually helps. The corners could be smoothed with some leather cement, which is just glue. Or simple conditioning will improve the texture but it won't be permanent.

Excellent info, Whateve. Thank you so very much.

I‘ve been bitten by the vintage Coach bug

hi! I’m coming back into the handbag world because of vintage coach! and of course coming in when the prices are on the rise haha. Years ago I was into Kooba, Rebecca Minkoff, Marc Jacobs and had that one super aggressive looking Alexander McQueen bag. ANYWAY! I’m looking for a Plaza large or small if anyone sees a good one to jump on! I’m excited to be here :)

After I read this, and realized that I, too, would use it as is, I bought it. The rust color is so rich and rare. While it's not a duffle, I really can't carry a duffle every day and this is a bag that screams 'autumn' to me. I'm very much looking forward to receiving it. I have never 'banned' myself from buying before but starting tomorrow I hope to limit looking here and on sale sites. July was a very expensive month for me and we have school taxes due in September. If I could only forget the purple vintage bag I saw online last night...

OK. I caved. See you in September.

Honey, who hasn't? *side eye to BT Carrier bag*

So, I admit to having a bit of a meltdown on the weekend. I started to realize that buying 8 bags in July was not a truly good plan with school taxes due the beginning of September. Then, of course, I found the last two bags--the rust shoulder bag and the purple (PURPLE!) scooter. Lucky me for buying from two fellow TPFers and getting beautiful bags. These will keep me going though a bag-less August.
