I've been waiting for updates! Fascinating that someone would go through all that trouble to repair and then sell it. I am so happy it's rehomed to the perfect place.
I am sure it was not cheap. It could have been repaired may be as far back as 20 years.
There comes a time when people downsize, by choice or circumstances. I am going to contact the seller and ask if they know the original owner.

Hi all -

I have been wanting to get a vintage day pack for a while, but I’m wondering if anyone might have info on the larger size (9791?).

How heavy is it? I don’t have much vintage Coach in larger styles because the bags are just too heavy if I need to carry a water bottle :/

Will the back zip pocket fit a cell phone?

What colors did the larger size come in? (I would love one of the lavender/lilac day packs  or also green, red, or purple).

I had one. I’d consider it a medium daypack size wise. It’s not heavy & the back zip pocket fit my Iphone X which measures 5.65 inches in length & 2.79 inches in width (plus add a little to account for the case). I sold mine but I have a pic of it compared to the smaller one to help gauge sizing a little better:

Thank you @Coachaddict4020 for taking the time to read and respond to me! So sweet and thank you!!

Actually, it turned out that the buyer's reason for return was based on 'concerns about authenticity'. I was like, "???" It's so confusing that Mercari will send me one reason in email and later change their statement and says "primary reason was about authenticity". I told them that I had my bag authenticated by a professional Authenticators on this forum and now they go, "next time, try to upload those proof!" Yikes. I cannot be more disgusted. Where's my right as a seller! Why can buyer walk away with false accusations!

On Mercari, I think some buyers know how to return item they regret buying by using this 'fake' accusations. My time wasted and I'm now worried about whether I'll be receiving a swapped out fake item or damaged item. Not the feeling I was expecting to have before the holiday. ;-(
I thought it's only fair to provide updates to people that have read and empathized with me on this previous post.

The bag was returned safely in unaltered, with some protective packaging untouched (like the bubble wrap I wrapped around the top handle). It's strange that the buyer didn't even remove entire packagings and quickly requesting to return it, another indication that this return was a buyer's remorse.

Anyways, fast forward, I got to relist the bag and sold for the same price in few days with the buyer giving me a wonderful rating and comments. At the end, the bag and I'm happy that it went to a loving home. Life is interesting, isn't it?!

Great to hear everything worked out! Thanks for the update!

That's what I was thinking ... yeah, I thought it was pricey even for rust, in that condition.
I think it's rust. Many years ago, I purchased this exact model in this exact color, much better condition except for the huge surface tear of leather at the pocket in between two clutches (middle part). Although it cannot be seen from the outside, I decided to return it.
To this day, this is one of the biggest regret I have! the picture brought back memories...
