I'm glad you asked because I've been considering a basic bag as I love the look. The leather on many I've seen is scrumptious. Now I wonder if I would have to be too careful with it to prevent bulging. Even with narrow items, if they are piled on top of each other, they may all fall to the bottom and make the bag bulge.

I’ve never had bulging issues with my basic but I’ll admit I carry a lot of narrow items. Here’s what it can fit without the bag looking bulky. If you remove the chunky sunglasses case & epipen, you have even more room to work with. My companion held more due to the extra depth but it was SO heavy even with just the essentials. I don’t think the basic’s narrow depth is anything to fear, it can still hold a lot without being annoying to get in & out of:

Wow! That looks like it can hold quite a bit, and hopefully soon there won't be a mask and hand sanitizer!

Hello lovely enabling friends...
During these dark pandemic days, I'm faced with a decidedly 1st world problem.
I'm trying to choose between a basic and a companion bag. Both in great shape. Both black. Both pre style number Made in US bags. Both approximately the same price. My bag of choice right now is a compact pouch but I'm equally happy with a saddlery and a legacy zip. Mostly just carry a small wallet, keys, sunglasses and phone.
I know you guys love talking about this stuff. Give me your thoughts. Both is not an option. ;)
I had both at one point & Id pick the basic bag. The companion was heavy which is why I got rid of mine. I found the strap was too thin for how much the bag weighed. I couldn’t find a thick strap I liked enough to use on it, so off it went. The basic will hold all the stuff you mentioned (I can easily fit my hardshell sunglasses case too when I wanna wear my fancy looking sunglasses). Just my 2 cents, but Im team basic!! Lol!

I gotta throw my hat in the ring with team Basic! It’s such a pleasing, simple shape, it holds more than you’d think, and the winner for me is that it doubles beautifully as a smaller bag inside a larger bag like a huge tote. And if you’re a polisher of hardware, man those old brass zippers GLEAM with a little TLC!

These glowing Basic reviews have me so excited to receive mine!!!

I scratch my vintage bags SO easily:sad:
SAME. My nails are the biggest culprit!
I do it so easily too, my nails just somehow keep making contact with them lol. Then I panic and try to rub the scratches away. I'll have to crack out a recent bag next week to stay sane!

I've been keeping my nails really short since I have been rehabbing and carrying vintage. I haven't been wearing my rings either(easy for me...not married.) Still, sometimes I look down and see a scratch and wonder what i did.

My nails grow really fast & I get lazy about trimming them so I just deal with it lol. I can’t stand wearing rings, I feel like my hands are being restricted! If I ever get married, that boy better propose with a Cartier bracelet cause no way in h*ll am I wearing a ring haha

Isn't it interesting? I find vintage bags so durable/forgiving and current bags so easily marred. The other day my neighbour put a scratch on my Geometric Clutch while closing the turnlock. I brought it home, CPRed it and Voila! Scratch gone.

Ooooh, can we see pics of your other two??? I'd love to see those colors. And, well, honestly I can't imagine altering a strap like that. It makes me a little queasy. Hahaha! But they're your bags... I wonder if there's something less invasive you could do? Although I don't know what...

I haven't thought of anything less invasive to do yet, so have done nothing. Still contemplating whether or not they will work for me. The colours are so special that I'd be so disappointed to part with them.

The jade should be arriving any day, so I'll post photos then.

Thank you to the wonderful Coach authenticators, @Hyacinth, @BeenBurned and @whateve whose tireless work on the Coach authentication thread made my wish to own an exotic Coach bag a reality!

May makes this bag officially 20 years old! It arrived in like new condition (it was advertised as new without tags) and I spent part of today conditioning the inside flap of the bag with Coach moisturizer and the genuine alligator exterior with Bicks 4.

I am over the moon with this bag!
