Vintage Coach Photos & Chat

Thank you! I am also looking for Plaza bags- just love that top handle!
I have 4 of the larger 9865 Plaza bags and just bought a black smaller size 9860. The smaller size is much harder to find. I love them too! Usually I prefer crossbody style but my favorite way to carry that bag is by the top handle not the longer strap.

That's cute, and your reasons for purchasing make a lot of sense. I have been seeing things I like, the new Swingers and Ergos, the Saddle bags...but when I consider buying one, I come to the conclusion I could buy several vintage bags for the price. But then again I've only paid over $100 for one bag, so It might just be the thrifter in me talking. I've been thrifting for 30 years, I just like to do it. Nothing feels better to me than a good deal. It helps that I really just love old stuff  I got a couple of hours by myself a few of weeks ago, and I walked around my favorite antique store(that I haven't been into in FOREVER) by myself. Didn't buy anything, but it just feels so good to be surrounded by old stuff. I love to oooh and aaah and think about the lives the stuff had. I honestly can't remember the last time I bought anything new!

Oh wait, I did buy some tank tops that were on sale for $3 the other day

I could waste hours at a second hand store/ flea market/ garage sale/ estate sale etc. Anything old, I wanna rummage through it!

I understand, I don't care for those gold letters either. I like my new bags. I don't try to compare them to the vintage. They aren't the same. The leather will never be as good as they don't process leather the same as they did back then. I like my new bags for their styles and colors. Sometimes being more structured is a good thing if it works with the style. Compared to the quality of other brands, including premium brands, I think I'm getting a good value for my money on my newer Coach bags.

I just bought the Cashin 22 in cerise. It is a copy of a Bonnie Cashin design in a gorgeous fuchsia. I paid $214 including tax. If I could even find one of the vintage ones, it would cost a lot more than that, be in worse condition, probably wouldn't be in a pretty color, and wouldn't have the organization this one has. Plus I would be afraid to use it as it should be in a museum.
I like some of the new bags too. I bought two of the 1991 reissued small totes in blue ($230) and a red one ($225) that I love. I actually like the chunkier handles and the brass feet on them the earlier version did not have. Did get the real deal a BC 9685 in putty (listing photo) in mint original condition ($225). I actually carry all three and enjoy them.

The Pulley! It is super adorable though! I am so afraid to dunk it. I think it needs to be done though. View attachment 5061675View attachment 5061678
My second pre-creed arrival of the day...the small version of the classic shoulder pouch! It took me three tries to get a navy bag that is love...but I think I've finally done it. I could almost cry. It is in nearly perfect condition. It might be my new favorite! Somebody pinch me :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: View attachment 5061723
These two are going to have to be besties, my bag fund is drained! I am also officially out of space. I have four bags that don't really have a home anywhere. I don't know where I'm going to put them.

They are gorgeous, I've been staring and petting them all day. I'm not ready to move out of Mitchell yet, but at the same time I want to move into the pouch. Such a nice problem to have. Six months ago I couldn't have imagined I would be at this point. I have so many bags I love!
Oh my gosh that blue Pouch! Does anyone know if the Pulley come in rust??
Same boat. Dental work is dipping into my bag fund. And I am busy at work keeping what I have from developing what I call storage squash/slump. With multiple bags awaiting TLC.

Thank you....thats a big No from me on those...looks like they have gotten a child to write on them and then embroidered/painted them.
Waste of a Dinky.

LOL because I was thinking it would be cooler if I let my 7 and 4 year olds decorate a bag. But then they would think they could write on all my bags and it would end up a total disaster

I’m very creative and I can sew and embroider but somehow I couldn’t do this to a bag unless it was a total loss with bad stains. I do not care for any of the hand-embroidered bags. They are not done well and designs do look child-like. It might be fun to buy a nightmare bag that is beyond help and play around with it.

So true about the waste! But at least they've been trying to improve their quality a little? Maybe? I dunno, I have never bought a full price coach bag. They are at least looking better. I sometimes see some I might think about buying if they didn't have the "genuine glovetanned whatever" in gold letters I would have to look at every time I open a flap. I wish they would stop doing that. It looks so cheap!

ETA..no offense...I know some of you like the newer bags.

As a long time Coach lover who could only afford to buy them starting in 2009ish, I think the quality has really been improving after being so so in recent years. I think it started when the 1941 bags began appearing but now even the non-1941 (I know Coach doesn’t designate them this way anymore but we can all tell lol) bags are a step-up.

I watch a lot of purse reviews on YouTube and many people who are really only into luxury brands have now been discovering Coach and showing them on their channels. They always seem to be amazed at the bang for your buck you get with Coach. Kind of interesting. I often stray into other contemporary brands but the quality is pale by comparison to Coach even in the iffy years, at least in my opinion.

I love my vintage Coach, and mid-2000s Coach, and modern era Coach bags. And I love my outlet Coach items! (I even think the outlet bags have improved a lot!)

I agree. The quality of my MFF star quilted Jes is just as good as my recent boutique Coach bags.

Im sure everyone has their guard up after the pony express incident as well! Unrelated, but has anyone else noticed how vintage coach listings are turning more and more into auctions rather than BIN? Maybe Im wrong, but it’s been feeling that way lately lol

I've only tried auctions three times and won two with nice prices. First was my BT2 casino for $28 but with UK shipping and taxes and second was a lot of three Basics for $62. Everything else I've bought BIN has been much more expensive ranging from $30-120 or so:sad:. Cheapest was an absolutely parched Metropolis Zip from Goodwill for $9. Can't wait to rehab that one!

I have a “new” basic bag that I love but I also got an older basic bag in a lot of bags I purchased but it was in horrible condition. I keep my newer one to use & then the older one, I use it as an experiment bag for testing out different rehab ideas. Perhaps you can do the same? I rehabbed a tired looking court a little while ago and it came out phenomenal. It did require 2 dunks and massaging the leather with cpr a lot. Maybe you can try tossing it in the washing machine even- if it was only $20- whats there to really lose? Ive always wanted to try that method lol
How do you and others manage to apply the right amount of conditioner? I ALWAYS oversaturate and have to redunk to wash off the excess whilst the typically dry areas (corners, stressed areas of piping, straps etc) stay dry!

I am a bargain shopper but I didn't get into going to thrift stores until around 2014. When I first joined the forum, it was because my teenage daughter had spent her hard earned money buying a purse and a wallet with no discounts from a Coach boutique. I wanted to show her you didn't have to spend that much to get what she wanted so I started looking at contemporary Coach on ebay. I did find some bargains but I also found some fakes, which is how I found the forum, and which led ultimately to me becoming an authenticator. I didn't get interested in vintage until Katev started showing off her rehabs. At first, I wasn't attracted to it because it was vintage or better quality; I just wanted to be able to transform something. It appealed to the crafter in me. Ironically the first vintage bags I bought on ebay were in perfect condition and didn't need any rehabbing.

In 2014, we drove cross country, shopping at thrift stores along the way for something to do. It was a good way to drive around new towns and get a feel for the area. We met interesting people. I shopped for vintage Coach because it was something I knew and liked. Ever since then, whenever we travel, we go to thrift stores. It took me a long time to get over the ick factor with buying thrift. I don't mind vintage Coach because I know I can get them completely clean with dunking. But even clothes that I know I can wash, I still feel funny about those that touch the skin. I love my thrifted down jacket. I can't see myself ever buying used shoes. I bought a used stand mixer. Even though I washed it thoroughly, the first few times I felt kind of icky using it.

Now I know that many people who sell on ebay get their items from thrift stores but when I was first buying, if I was buying used, I imagined I was buying from the original owner, and it didn't seem as icky.
