Hi everyone, it's so nice to see people with similar taste in bags as I and it's nice to 'meet' you all. I sadly have quite a small collection of bags, especially as they are difficult to get hold of here in the UK. I have a late 80s/early 90s BT City Bag, a mahogany '96 Lula's Legacy and a '99 black Rambler's Legacy with lovely chewy leather. I am in the process of rehabbing these now and will post my little family when I am done. I can't wait to add to my collection further!

Welcome! :flowers:

This message is for fellow TPF er's who ordered the Tearose charm from me: PLEASE BE AWARE OF COLOR TRANSFER.
I used Eco-flo Satin Sheen as top coat sealer. Just find out color can still transfer especially when get wet. I am so sorry for this quality issue. If you still would like to use them, please do apply a different stronger sealer, such as Feibing's Resolone. Otherwise it may ruin your bags.

ETA: to be safe, after applying Resolone, let it cure for several days, then dunk the charm to get rid off excess dye.

ETA: they are not sales, as I made and shipped them free, receivers can make voluntarary donation to charity instead of payments. Because of color transfer issue , I will no longer take any new orders. Thanks.
thats a pity...maybe when you sort out the colour transfer you will be back at it.

Hey guys! Ive been a bit MIA from the threads because Ive been dealing with the aftermath of the mail that was stolen from me. The stress kinda killed the joy of my hobbies for a while. Anyways, Ive yet to catch up on all the posts, but I received my black nickel court today & Im trying to figure out if it’s been covered in shoe polish... it feels very rubbery, the white gift wrap tissue has black stains & my hands have black smokey stains on them too after handling the bag. Is the bag doomed? Ive never dealt with shoe polish. It was made in Costa Rica as well... how sad

Not sure it will work but when I tried to color the edges of my periwinkle lunchbox with Saphir creme when I put CPR on it, it sloughed right off. CPR might take it off for you

Thanks for the suggestion, Ill definitely try CPR. The seller said all her leather bags get treated with Weiman leather cleaning products & that this bag didn’t dry properly before being packaged. Im not sure how I feel about that explanation. A leather cleaner wouldn’t cause a bag to become shiny/rubbery like it’s coated in a layer of paint with dye coming off on your hands. The seller did offer me a full refund & told me to keep the bag, she said she owns the business but doesn’t oversee the process of each item. Ah well, it’s free rehab experience I guess lol

Could be shoe polish or dye, anyway the bag is color treated. But shoe polish or dye alone won’t make it rubbery, so sealer was also used such as Resolone. As I recent find out color still transfer after applying sealer. I recently purchased a dyed bag from poshmark at a very low price, to use it as a project bag. Seller previously applied 3 coats of Eco-flo satin sheen, I thought it should be color safe, but with CPR it dyed the white cloth to green. Lol ( the bag was fully disclosed by the awesome seller).
If you want to take off the rubbery feel, you can try Saphir leather cleaner, it is an aggressive cleaner, but less harsh to leather than acetone, just need to rehydrate the leather well afterward with cpr

If it is shoe polish, you have my profound sympathy!
I have recently been working with several shoe polished bags and have used a total of 2 quarts of straight acetone in the process. Getting it off is doable but requires a major time commitment.
First, you need to get full strength acetone ( from a store that sells paint) and paper towels. Make sure to wear rubber gloves, especially if you wear nail polish. Wet the paper with acetone and rub the leather. The polish will come off slowly. You’ll have to repeat this many times.
When I am tired of breathing the fumes (do it near an open window, if possible) I put the bag into very hot water with dawn detergent and vinegar, scrub with a soft brush (more polish will come off) and continue with the soak and drying, like with a normal rehab. When the bag is still very moist, I apply lots of CPR and let it dry.
I repeat this process as many times as it takes to get just about all the polish off. You can tell when the hot water bath no longer turns the colour of the polish. I usually give up when the water has just a bit of the shoe polish colour showing.
I then continue with an intensive moisture routine and the usual rehab steps.

Good luck!

Yea, looks like some kind of sealer due to the shine on top of the black dye/polish that was used. I can see they were trying to cover up piping but ended up doing the whole bag probably to make it look “even”. Thanks for the Saphir suggestion. Ill try Cpr & acetone first, remove what I can followed by a really hot water dunk. Then Ill see what Im left to work with. If it’s still feeling weird, Ill re-do everything & get other products.

Whoa. hopefully it wasn’t dyed and not sealed.

Does anyone own a Station with an adjustable strap? I am not too familiar with it so wondering if they all came with adjustable straps. If anyone has one, can you please let me know how wide the strap is? I feel like the Station I just bought came with an original Coach strap, just not original to the Station.
