The Dinky straps are rather long at 48 inches, not bad crossbody but long for a shoulder bag, but I believe that the original Regina Bag had a long leather strap. On some bags it is easy to shorten the length of the chain strap as shown on the Fern Suede Fringe Dinky bag in the picture below.

The lighter-weight, thinner, less-expensive outlet version of the gold chain strap that I used on Gracie in the post above is a little shorter (46 inches) but still a long strap.

I thought that the smaller, lighter chain was a good choice for Gracie because it is such a small bag and also because I had to thread the chain through the loops under the flap, see pic below.

ETA: I just weighed the gold Dinky strap and it is 7.3 oz so a little less than half a pound.

That would be great for a Geometric Clutch missing a strap as well - those snaps are hard to match!

The name "Gramercy Clutch" is still officially listed on the June 4, 2000 Wayback Machine as style number 7007, with some different details. So if the 7000 is the original Gramercy Clutch, it may have been discontinued by the time the 7007 was introduced. Since construction details had been changed rather than just cosmetic details, Coach would have assigned it a different style number.

Here's another mystery Gramercy, and the details from my files. There's no room in the serial number sequence for it:
"700? - POSS. Gramercy Pilot? Top Handle with no serial #,
Has right creed, detachable strap, brass feet, Coach stamp on squared strap rings, etc. 11x10x2.5, 19" str drop, dowel style similar to Willis".

ETA - this is the bag that was discussed a few years ago here:

Since style number 7000 is now accounted for, I'm thinking that this might definitely have been a sample or pilot bag that never made it to production.

I am so glad that you saved pictures of that mystery bag! I was really intrigued by the description of a Gramercy bag with a dowel rod! I think you must be correct in that it was a sample or a pilot bag created early in the development of the Italian Gramercy line.

I really wish that I was at the outlet the day that these odd Italian bags were first put out on the shelves!

I wish I had been there too, the Mystery Bag is actually something that I would buy, because of the removeable long shoulder strap and outside back pocket. Bags that can only be hand-carried just don't work for me. Too bad there isn't a Style Graveyard of Coach sample bags that didn't quite make production that we could browse through, like Ben & Jerry's has their Flavor Graveyard. It would be fascinating to see what we're missing.

There's one sample bag in my collection that I took a chance on years ago and I still love it, it's a nice roomy leather messenger bag that has lovely soft leather and all the outside pockets I could possibly want, that apparently never made it past the sample stage. But it's 100 percent Coach in every detail, and I use it often.

Buying "sample bags" especially for resale is NEVER something I'd ever recommend because they simply can't be authenticated OR resold legally and we've seen plenty of proveable fakes. However, once in a lifetime you might find something that feels like Coach custom-made it just for you. (That said, anyone who takes that kind of chance is really bucking the odds. It should never be done without the advice of experts.)

I have seen mention of replacement straps purchased through Coach somewhere on here. Are the the ones on their website or can you call and get something basic?

I'm debating getting a Dinky strap too. Do you find the gold to be a good match with vintage brass?

The Dinky Chain Straps are on sale right now for 30% off ($24.50 with free shipping) on Coach.com, see pic below:

Ugh, Bringing Home the Green Mitchell is turning into a Birkin-worthy chase. I asked the seller on Etsy if she would accept an offer of $x, and got no reply whatsoever. Instead, she re-listed on Ebay from where she previously removed it because the item got no action. She didn't let me know about that either, even though I told her I was watching on Ebay prior to removal. I have placed a bid now and hope to get it for less than what I offered on Etsy, cause I'm petty like that. I'm probably disproportionately annoyed and will try to calm down now. But seriously! The bag is overpriced on Etsy considering its condition.
Is she technically allowed to remove the bag from Ebay again now that there's a bid?

Yes, she can cancel the bid and end the auction. Good luck, I hope she lets you buy it this time!

Yes, she can end the auction but she will still have to pay fees to ebay so she will be punished.

Check the item photos: that's the seller who re-stitches, over-stitches or just plain self-stitches her bags.
Thanks for the heads up. I did notice this and requested a couple more photos. One of them showed a suspiciously white-leaning seam close to the bottom corner about which I asked again. She said the light made it look like that. I'm inclined to believe her because that would be a really obvious lie if it turned out overstitched in person. But...you never know!
