Coach used a variety of labels in the early years. Some didn't have the lozenge border. I've seen this font before. Since this bag has the striped lining with the black stripes in between, it isn't one of the oldest. It was probably made in the late 60s.
I see, thanks for the info. The 6 bags I have all have the same metal coach tag, so this one was odd for me.

I kept telling her there was no way those colors and patterns and fabrics would NEVER make it past a coach design room. She got it at a pay by the pound store, so no need for a refund or anything. She was planning to try to sell it on eBay so I had to intervene!

I am really confused about a Bonnie Cashin Kisslock doctor satchel that I saw on eBay, so I thought that you guys might be able to help me. The metal Coach tag on the bag doesn't have the silver border that is found on other vintage 60's bags, and the font and style seem to be different too. I've attached a picture of the Coach metal tag that I have.

The link to the bag is as follows: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252105928775?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

My friend found this at the Goodwill. It looks suspect to me. Thoughts? View attachment 3148309View attachment 3148311

I'm not an authenticator but couldn't help but notice that, ironically, "detal" is misspelled.
:nogood:
Yup, definitely fake. The 3XXXX style numbers are fairly new and wouldn't be on a bag with a 2002 date code.

Comments: I'm not interested in buying this, I'm just curious whether or not it is authentic. Thank you, experts! :flowers:

I can't give you an answer. Much of it is wrong compared to all the other Gramercys we've seen, but it's possible it was a sample or Pilot Bag.

Compared to other Gramercys:
The lining isn't the right color, there's no serial number and there should be, based on the measurements. The lines in the grain of the leather are horizontal but on all the other Gramercy styles they're at a 45-degree angle, and I've never seen or heard of a Gramercy with a dowel on the top. The creed patch should be smooth leather, not textured. The strap clips are NOT the same design used on the other Gramercy styles.

None of the sequential Gramercy style numbers seem to be unaccounted for, with one possible exception, I have photos of all of them unless there was a style number 7000. If there WAS a style 7000, all bets are off and the bag may be genuine. Or if it was a preproduction pilot bag it might not even have had an official style number. I really hope no one reports it because there are just enough accurate details such as the creed wording and the turnlock design to make its authenticity a possibility. It's hard to see clearly in the photo but it might even have the right inside pocket zipper pull, and THAT would be almost impossible if it was fake. I'm going to do more comparing when I have time but for now I'm calling it "Questionable but Possible".

If Tetondeb is checking this thread, I hope she points this one out to Jed.

I purchased this Lula ~which is BLACK not Brown(yes, I did catch that typo..)
Made in TURKEY not USA (which is an upgrade IMHO)

Problem is..the ends of the drawstring are attached into ONE leather end-thingy. It does NOT appear to have been repaired,I can't see any eveidence of resewing or glue or repair. Since it is a SNAD~seller doesn't take returns~I just want to make sure its AUTHENTIC. I already wrote the seller for a return, but I'll bee happy w partial refund if its determined by you ladies~that it is GENUINE Thanks in Advance!! :D

Okay, can someone tell me what's up with this supposedly interchangable key fob? I really don't know what to think about it. I wouldn't think this is something Coach would make kind of 'halfassed'. (no threaded hole) I hate to have to post in here and ask, but curiosity is killing me and I'm interested in it if it is authentic. I did note the chain is not exactly like the chain on my leather baseball fobs and there's no hang tag either. Maybe these were supposed to be some other kind of thing, like a desk display and the seller made it into a fob?

It looks fine to me other than the mistake with the drawstring. Coach plants sometimes DID make mistakes. And Coach plants outside the US probably were more likely to make them. Or it's possible that a previous owner had it professionally repaired or even repaired by Coach when one of the end covers got lost. More opinions are always welcome.

I'm not sure why something that doesn't affect its use-ability or durability would justify even a partial refund though. How is something like that supposed to be the seller's fault OR responsibility ???

It seems ok but other opinions are welcome. That IS the type of inside tag that Coach uses to disclose the country of manufacture. And if the wallet had originally come with a removeable checkbook holder, there may have been a small Coach stamp on that.

And my guess is that with Coach's Signature Cs all over the outside, maybe Coach's design dept. thought that any other stamps or logos to identify it as a Coach product weren't necessary?

ETA - Here's one almost identical to yours but with a different leather grain. There are no Coach stamps anywhere on the main body of the wallet either, just on the checkbook cover.
