Vestiaire Collective experiences?

I had an item I shipped through direct shipping via UPS returned back to me, and was invoiced by UPS for the return costs. I should think that these costs fall under the responsibilities of Vestiaire collective to cover, but they are refusing to pay for these costs. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

This makes me angry, and hesitant to sell any items through vestiaire. If the buyer has second thoughts and will refuse delivery, you just end up eating the costs.
It happens that way with ebay. I imagine it happens that way with most selling sites except for something like Poshmark that pays for the shipping. I think when it happened with ebay a very long time ago, they told me I could withhold my costs from the refund, but ebay works differently in that you get the money first and have the power to give a partial refund.

That is the thing, vestiaire pays for the shipping of the items. They even send you a prepaid shipping label to attach to the item before UPS picks it up. Their FAQ page just says if the item is not delivered, it will be returned to you, but conveniently it leaves out the fact that you will have to then pay 20euros for this joy.

Yes I did, they are flat out refusing payment and saying that it is my cost to cover. They take massive buyer and seller fees to cover the shipping (among other things), and I do believe they have some sort of agreement with UPS concerning the shipping, so this is straight out hostile towards the sellers in my opinion.

There was nothing wrong with the item that I sent forward, the buyer just came to other thought. Probably found another way to spend their cash, so now here I am out of pocket for trusting Vestiaire collective.
That is horrible! Was it domestic shipping directly to the buyer or sent to VC then forwarded to the buyer?

Could this be based on the counterfeit laws, saying that if an item is fake (or deemed fake), people (customs, authenticators etc.) are allowed to just destroy it? This creates a mentality wherein once an item has been deemed or perceived as fake, it gets looked down on and people just mistreat it. Of course, if it turns out it was a mistake, then... oops!
Which is why I hate those laws; they give too much authority to authenticators who might not always be as competent or knowledgeable as they believe themselves...
Now they replied stating they cannot accept it as it doesn’t fall under Celine’s “quality standard” criteria. It was deemed inauthentic before this. Tbh, they’re the worst platform I’ve had to deal with ever. Before this they cheated me by changing the selling currency of one item I sold into USD. I’ve never listed my items in USD ever and for that “mistake”, they atoned with a €20 voucher which I will never use because their fees and import tax are just ludicrous.

I read one buyer from Australia was charge for import fee for an item which the country doesn’t even have any import tax fee in place. They’re just not worth the hassle to deal with tbh. Everyone should avoid it like the plague.

I have not had (officially yet) a problem with VC (there one bag I received I suspect is fake). VC has a reputation for being full of fakes...
However, pretty much all resale platforms are struggling. I can totally see how they can all be in panic mode because of the crash in the resale market and therefore making bad decisions, mistreating people etc. You can feel it pretty much everywhere. So much so that I have decided to suspend purchases until the atmosphere has calmed down a bit. 2024 will be a low buy year for me. Tired of the abuse in descriptions, pictures, state of items not as stated etc. I just returned a cardigan someone has run through the wash and shrunk, yet still tried to sell it on as like new, LOL, come on!

Also, any designer item that is too vintage, I would never try and sell through these types of platforms; lots of their authenticators are not necessarily as experienced as they would like you to believe and have more expertise with recent production. In one of his podcast episodes, Tanner Leatherstein had Peter Nitz over, explaining how her has seen authenticators reject authentic bags because their knowledge of more niche elements was narrow and in general "recency-biased". Very interesting.

BUYER BEWARE: Back in September, I ordered a brown crocodile St. Laurent handbag - shortly after I received an unopened, undamaged box from Fed ex. Inside the fed ex box, there was a St. Laurent box and dust bag BUT inside the dust bag was a black Love Moschino handbag. I immediately reached out to Vestiaire customer service and informed them I recovered the wrong merchandise and provided photos. I have been in contact with Vestiaire customer service ever since documenting everything along the way. Vestiaire has taken zero responsibility and has done absolutely nothing to remedy the situation, They have not allowed me to return the incorrect merchandise I have received. They have not given me a refund. They have not sent me the correct bag. Instead, they simply keep telling me to open another claim with fed ex as it MUST be fed ex’s fault — 6 fed ex claims and months of dialogue with Vestiaire CS and NO one is doing a damn thing. Fed ex delivered the box as they received it and I received it in perfect form. There is no denying that. And yet, Vestiaire’s answer is that someone at fed ex opened my box guessing it contained a handbag and happened to have a spare handbag on hand to replace it with. Yeah — that makes sense. Do NOT purchase from this site and if you do, pray you get the correct item because customer service is a joke!

That is horrible, were you able to leave review on that seller?

What a nightmare scenario!

I used to be such a fan of these platforms, mostly because I had never had a problem with them and you can find rare items sometimes... And I used to be very brazen as well, ordering from foreign countries to be delivered to other foreign countries, at family's, friends, hotels etc. never having a problem, totally trusting the process.

But recently, I have had a series of bad experiences that have totally cooled be me off. Particularly, I bought a cashmere cardigan on VC in "Very good condition". For once, I paid for verification (as I am increasingly weary of frauds) and yet the item came with an unmentioned massive tear at the collar, you could insert three fingers in it! What was so shocking it the verification deemed it "compliant"! So turned off. But I did not fight it off (by the time I collected my item, the return window had already closed) and was able to sew it up.

On Poshmark, someone tried to stitch me up with a shrunken merino cardigan: the lady had clearly put it through the washing and it came out felted basically; it was so tight I could barely put my arms through and the sleeves had shortened so much they stopped at mid-forearm! Nothing like the flowy cardi in the pictures and so dishonest! I fought that one off and won.

As a strategy, I always pay via PayPal, via a credit card. That gives you recourse; if your claim with VC does not resolve, you can move up one level and open a case with PayPal, then with your credit card. I have always found PayPal to be good and quick with claims.
People also seem to have it good with their credit cards when they open cases. Mine sucks, they'll only move their @sses if there is fraud, other than that you're on your own with the merchant.

I also now systematically pay for the verification for big ticket items, to ensure I do not receive empty boxes, the wrong items or a damaged good. I do believe the quality of service has dipped even though prices are higher, these platforms are increasingly disorganized internally and it shows, and there its a frenzy, and franticness in the air, totally related to the economy and their collective bad financial performances.

I have decided to cool down for 2024 and only buy locally where I can see and touch first, at least for now.

I’ve been an avid defender of VC for years but they have suprised me at times with their lack of knowledge re Mulberry, plus differentiating standards on listing. I’ve just had a the biggest issue with them and I won’t bore you with the details but I will pass on a peice of advice to ANYONE buying from them. Do not use Direct Shipping. Unless you are absolutely 100% happy with the item you are buying do not risk it. I have had issues before but this one has sealed it. Your ‘invoice’ appears to be worthless. You may as well have bought it from EBay for the value it brings, even by them! (I did point that out to them. Mulberry gave me the information necessary to educate the VC team on their products). For context I was trying to list a bag I’d bought from them and they kept asking for a serial disc (🙄) and when I pointed out I’d bought it FROM them it made no difference as I’d used direct shipping and refused to relist it because they could not be certain of its authenticity…despite listing it previously 🤯🤯.
On a positive note just do your due diligence quickly (within your 72hr window) and they are extremely helpful polite and professional.

Hi all,

I would love any feedback on my experience. I purchased an Hermes cosntance bag from VC earlier this week. The quality control report came to me today stating “dyed.” Does anyone have experience with this? I found a good deal so I was really hoping to take this bag to Hermes spa, but I know that if the bag was worked on by a third party, I know that Hermes will not accept it for their after sale service.

How good is their quality control? Can I trust them that this bag was actually dyed?

Thank you and I really appreciate you all’s time.

looks well used

I have seen the golden Hermes print under the flap.
Could the print look like this, if the bag was dyed? I tend to doubt this.

Or does the red point mean, there is dye just on the flap on a spot or area?
