Vestiaire Collective experiences?

I decided to experiment, and for 1 month I turned on the offer option. worst decision. every day I got a few minimal offers, none of these people agreed to my counter offers, they just kept sending me the same numbers several times in a row. maybe 10 times I accepted someone's offers, of which only 1 buyer actually made a purchase. too bad that VC allows to make offers that don't oblige buyers to anything. on poshmark when you make an offer, you commit to make a purchase if it is accepted. on eBay, if you don't buy the item you win, it hurts your statistics. here people send offers just because they can. with no real intention to buy. that's very disappointing and annoying. never again

Hi everyone! I typically only a reader here but decided to share my experience this time because I’m going to speak with the lawyers and file the lawsuit against Vestiaire. I started selling on Vestiaire last year and everything was good, I was quite happy with the platform and my buyers were happy with their purchases. Despite the fact the site does not allow to leave reviews I enjoyed that the buyers sent me lovely messages after receiving their goods (I mostly work with vintage Chanel bags). I was an expert seller on the Vestiaire (100% of my sold items matched their description, 100% were authentic, 100% were shipped within 24 hours). Two months ago my husband and me went to Hermes boutique to buy chypre sandals for his mom but it turned out that they were too narrow for her. And because I know how hard to get these sandals I decided to resell them on Vestiaire instead of returning them for a store credit. The sandals were sold almost immediately and I happily sent it to the buyer. But how shocked I was when Vestiaire rejected them at the authentication, canceled the sale and to send me a bank details to pay a shipping fee to get back my sandals. I was super angry at them since I knew that sandals were 100% authentic and they were shipped them with the receipt of the purchase. Next day they removed all the badges that I had been working on from 2022 and my status there became just a fashion activist (I bought one item there myself). No need to say again how terrible their customer support is since I believe you all know that. My husband (the receipt was under his name since I have 2 accounts in Hermes and hope to get a quota bag soon) and I was tried to communicate with them for 4 weeks now and what we got is just an answer they they are firm in their decision that sandals are not authentic. They shipped them back with no cost (since we were constantly bombing them with the emails from my husband professional account and he is a public person), but they never agreed to speak with us by phone or at least to give me back the expert seller status there. My buyer thinks that I sold her counterfeit sandals (she never received them since they canceled the sale but she received and email why it was canceled) and that is so embarrassing. I am really not going to let it go and we already speak with the lawyers what is better to do in this case. P.s. Sandals arrived at their initial condition with the tag ‘rejected’ on them from Vestiaire collection.

I recently had a pretty negative experience with VC. I was luckily granted a refund in the end, but the amount of trouble I had to go through was traumatizing. This was my first time buying and also last.
I'll keep it short, but I purchased a Burberry scarf and upon receiving it noticed the tassels were the wrong length. I sent it back to VC to check, and upon receiving only a vague statement of "the quality and materials match the brand's standards", I asked them to reauthenticate again but give me an answer on the tassel issue. On the 3rd authentication, they finally said it was probably lack of quality control on the seller's part, which I've no clue what that means. They let me return the item for a refund, but this whole process took about a month and caused so much stress. I'm thankful the agent was patient and proactive with getting back to me, but yeah learned my lesson here.

Hello everyone, does anyone have a clear understanding of how VC works with their currency conversions? I have tried through customer service and read through their posted policy, but it is quite opaque and even contradictory in places.
In short, I am both a seller and a buyer. I know there are currency conversion fees but VC directly states they don't charge these ("No currency conversion charge or foreign exchange fee is applied by Vestiaire Collective where the currency linked to the payment method is different from the currency selected at the checkout page (or in the user’s selected currency settings)."
However, I noticed that if my buyer uses a different currency to what I do, they not only see a cca 12.5% higher price factoring in currency, but if they make me a lower offer of a specific amount, then the % they go lower with is then taken out my price. So for example, there is a bag of eg. 120 EUR and the buyer sees 130 EUR. They believe that they make an offer on 104 EUR - what I see on my end is 92 EUR instead. We noticed this when we tried to engineer the right price together with the buyer for her to purchase.
This is an insanely high markup on top of the 18% that they already take from you as a regular seller.
I will now advise my buyers to always set their currency to the same as mine and let their bank do the conversion. But it feels all too deliberate from VC to skim off even more of trades and not really being straight about it.

On the app, go to FAQ then check:
Help Centre Selling Payment & Fees General

You will see all the details there. I noticed 2 important points - quoted from their FAQ below:
  1. Selling Fee of 15% will be deducted from the final price of your sale.
  2. A payment processing fee of 3% will be charged on your sale to cover the external processing costs of your transaction.
It was much better in the past (I think it’s around 2020) when their commission % rate goes down when you sell a higher value item. I find their commission has increase tremendously. I have been selling there since 2020 and also purchased 1 vintage kelly watch 2 years ago. Everything went well for me so far.

Same thing happened to me as well. They would never admit their mistake as that would undermine their entire “authentication” process/expertise.

VC uses 15-20% markup on current foreign currency exchange rates. I always advise my international buyers to match their app currency to USD since I'm US based. the option to change is under the DETAILS tab of your account app. matching currency to seller's is the only way to avoid their markup. likewise, if I'm buyer on VC, I also change my currency to whatever the seller's home base is (a useful hack is to change currency PRIOR to making an offer so you can begin negotiating on a level playing field).

Sadly, VC gets away with insane markups simply because they're the only major reseller on the secondary market. every time the VC rating pops up on my screen, I always give them 1 to 2 rating.

Be careful when dealing with this company! Lucky I paid with PayPal and they have stepped in to refund my money. I think they create fake accounts with items listed to chest us of our money. Seller was unresponsive and the 3 different staff I spoke to gave me different reasons and excuses. They even gave me a fake tracking number and when asked completely ignored me and blocked me so I could no longer contact them. Will no longer deal with them

Hi purseforum - any help or opinions are appreciated here.

I am looking to make a purchase from VC from a Swiss seller and it will be coming to me to the US. So, I am no stranger to shopping here and paying the vat taxes/customs duties/fees. However, I am seeing the rates all over the place. According to my research it should only be about 7.7% - for the item I wanted VC calculated over 60% and added that to the price!! Another item I added to cart as a test came out around 40%.

I find this suspicious and alarming. So sadly, I am not making the purchase. I contacted VC and they said "I coordinated the issue with our Customs team, and I am so sorry to inform you that according to them, the customs duties are correct because the seller is from Switzerland."

- why the inconsistencies in rates?
- why would the rates be so ridiculously high?

Thanks for any knowledge you can share!

Update to my prior post. It's been a few days and I am still trying to get answers from the VC customer service.
Today I am told that it is because they charge customs from Switzerland to France, and then again from France to USA.
I am still doubting this. I have ordered plenty of times from all over the world through VC and have never seen rates like this.
And even if I take it as true, it still would not amount to an extra 60% markup. If I am wrong, that's fine, but they won't show me a break down or give me the rates/percentages that they are using.

So, I am just venting now but in the meantime, no more VC purchases for me.

Hey there, technically Switzerland is not part of the EU, but it is a single market due to bilateral agreements. So a bit strange, but I could imagine it is an issue, as there are exceptions to exporting, but I don't know for sure. The 60% markup is insane, and it is exactly also my problem when it comes to currency conversion and estimating customs fees. One thing I learnt since the post I had made here, is to alert my buyers to match my currency (and I do the same when buying). If it is from France, maybe they convert from Swiss francs to EUR and then to USD, adding the markup and then adding the markup to the markupped () amount... if you know what I mean. Then it's easily 60% more.
Edit: I think it is a great way (for them) to earn extra money in a hidden way (not a profit either per the books).
