Overheard today someone talking about LVMH wants to buy Richemont. I googled it and reported online, too. This would not be a positive development to me. Anyone heard the same? Thoughts?
I had not heard this prior to reading your post but it will be interesting to see if the Rupert family will sell. I believe they still have majority control. I‘m not terribly familiar with the world of corporate buying/selling/take over but with the somewhat recent acquisition of Tiffany & Co I could see LVMH specifically setting their sights on Cartier. I hope this does not happen bc, like you, I do not think it will be great for the VCA brand. Or Vacheron, A. Lange, IWC, and Jaeger to name others (forgive my abbreviations - husband is a watch collector … not me!)

Ugh that would not be good IMO. They tried that with Hermes, and thankfully the family was successful in preventing the takeover from happening

Hello all, need an opinion on the mop 11 motifs necklace. I have seen it on three sites at the same time; I picked it up from fashionphile for 13,800 with tax, rebag price was 14k sold, trr is listed for 17,600, and vca retail is 18,800. I really hope it was a good investment choice there is still time to return it.
I was on the fence about the 11 motifs vs the 20 motifs, this is my first substantial long piece. I do own two of the long single magic necklaces and one 10 motif.
I dont see it on the vca site any longer does anyone know if its discontinued?
I mostly dress casual and I am nervous it will be to dressy and not used much, does anyone own it? What are the opinions regarding this piece? Thanks much

Since lvmh has taken over Tiffany, Tiffany has had multiple price increases. Schlumberger lines were hit esp hard. A t bangle I bought has had a 30% increase since purchase. There’s another one that I recall being around 44k and since lvmh has taken over it’s nearly doubled in price. If lvmh were to take over vca and cartier it wouldn’t surprise me if there would be similar outrageous increases. Imo Tiffany jewelry isn’t worth what the asking prices are currently. Imo the brand doesn’t have the cache as vca or cartier. I hope richemont does not sell. You would think European antitrust laws would prevent this.

I was just mentioning this to another member of the forum re Tiffany prices. Their quality, imo, is not as high as other jewelry houses however their prices are astronomical. I tried on a Victoria necklace recently and it was $25,000. It had been created this past year and almost immediately discontinued so I was very interested in purchasing. The clasp for it was so paltry and thin I couldn’t believe it - I didn’t buy. Also, the silver line is so expensive … I always thought of it as an entry line for younger people mostly. They have introduced a lot of new lines since the take over too.

Congrats on your purchase! They still have this piece featured on their website it is just not available (like so much else) currently.

I like the piece but I would ask you if you would plan to wrap it or wear it long? Do you wrap your long magic pieces? It is an unusual piece that I do not see out and about being worn often and I like that about it.

I think you don’t have to worry about it being too dressy. I wear all my long VCA casually and think of Alhambra (with the exception of my magic pave diamond 6 motif) as casual.

Oh, also, generally speaking I think most of VCA are good investment pieces overall but I can’t speak to whether or not you would make money on it over time (if this is what you mean).

Enjoy your beautiful item!

Thanks for response! I picked it up bc it is different and the good price. I just noticed these pieces seem to sell for less, the magic 16 motifs as well. Im not looking to make money but it would be nice to break even in the future. I do wear my magic necklaces shorter and love it. Happy to hear you think its casual.

How does this one look wrapped up? I only ask because of the large piece at the bottom so I’m unsure how it would look or if you would intend to wear it that way. I know the 16 motif is gorgeous wrapped. These pieces are spectacular even with a simple white t-shirt (that’s how I purchased the chalcedony one - I saw someone trying it in the store with a simple t shirt on and was like holy cow I’m in love). You don’t have to wear anything special and you put one of these long necklaces on - wrapped or not - and, for me, it transforms the outfit. Do you layer? Could you later this with your magic pieces (worn shorter) or 10 motif? Not sure what colors you already have but if they match that could add a new look and a fun way to wear it altogether. I love to layer my Alhambra.

Alhambra is casual and dressy. It sort of can be worn as both but I’ve never seen someone wear it and thought they were “over dressed.” I wear my turquoise 10 motif with bathing suits on vacation! But that’s the beauty of it all - I remember once Princess Kate wore her magic 6 motif gold and mother of Pearl necklace to the BAFTA awards - which are formal - and it looked perfect and beyond elegant. But worn day to day it also is perfect and elegant too!

I think the magic necklaces are all very special and if you love the piece it seems like it was a great price and a worthy investment. Does it have much wear on it? I wouldn’t worry terribly much on the after market prices and if they sell for less. These things ebb and flow I’ve noticed - especially with availability of the piece.

Hi! I think this piece is lovely, but compared to the 20, I think it looks busy. It's because the motifs are different sizes plus you have a jumbo motif at the bottom.

For me, I love love love the 20. The 20 is bold, but because all the motifs are the same size and space equally apart, the look is clean. The 20 is clearly a "long necklace" look and super easy to wear.

The necklace you posted is nice, but it's kind of messy to me because it is both a "long necklace" with varying motifs plus a "long pendant" together as one necklace.

My gut says since you have it in your posession now at home but you are still worried how often you will wear it, it's not a perfect fit for your lifestyle.

The main reason for me against this necklace is that jumbo motif at the bottom. If it was more like the long Magic 16 which is more balanced or the 20 motif (which I love 20s!), I think it would look nicer. That's just me though, and jewelry is 100% preference.

By the way, VCA mainline pieces are very casual... I wear Alhambra, Frivole, Lotus... all with striped tees and shorts. I would not worry about it being dressy. I would worry more about it being "busy" looking for your lifestyle. Busy is very different than being dressy, and this necklace is "casual busy" to me.

Just my two cents to share. Hope this helps, and good luck on your decision.

This seems like a website the sell counterfeit/replicas, or am I wrong ?
Yes, you are correct. On their website, they state they are based on China, and they have a "factory of experts" to create whatever piece you want.

What do you think about the 6 motif magic? Too busy or better?

I know this question was for BigAkoya and I’m certain she will offer you a well thought out excellent answer but for what’s it’s worth I’m partial to the six motif magic - I have five versions of it and get the most use out of them compared to all my pendants, 10 motifs and 20 motifs, etc. I think the design is unusual and special - elegant but a little different. I also love the Alhambra piece at the clasp - it is a nice addition, especially if your hair is up and you wear something where it can be seen.
