For the women on this forum who own both lapis and turquoise BTF rings, do you feel like they’re somewhat redundant pieces in your wardrobe? For some reason i think this is less of an issue with the earrings…
I just tried on all four butterfly rings: lapis/diamond, turquoise/diamond, pink sapphire/diamond, yellow sapphire/diamond.
For me, I decided I will not be buying a butterfly set as I felt the butterfly ring was a bit too small on me.

That said, no, both rings are not redundant if you are a butterfly ring lover.
To me, lapis remains the BOMB! I know this is the turquoise thread, but to me, there is no comparison. The lapis is so stunning, and that deep blue makes it a bold statement piece. It definitely pops, unlike the yellow sapphire and pink sapphire which I thought was a bit mellow. The turquoise butterfly is super fun! Think glowy turquoise for the summer. The turquoise pops too, but it's a fun pop.

If you love the butterfly ring, they are definitely not duplicates, and I would get both. The two shades each project a different look. Both are great rings. Good luck on your decision!

That is a steep price yikes
I bid on something (not this) and with taxes and buyer’s premium it was an extra $10k above the hammer price. That sold for slightly less than half the hammer price of the turquoise, so depending on their location (tax % vs customs %) add another 20k, or likely more to the $63k! If I had purchased it, it would have been over $87k total, so that’s about the ballpark, probably slightly less since my tax rate is high. These prices are always out of control, out of curiosity I looked at what some other items sold for in the auction, and some items available at the boutique sold above retail price once you add in the buyer’s premium. I just don’t understand that part.

I will say that the piece looked like it was in excellent condition and was dated 2017 and had a certificate of authenticity. A YG TQ 20 motif without papers and having some of the stones look like they may have been replaced and didn't match well with the others, sold for a realized price of $47+. That buyer's premium adds a hefty chunk to the realized price. I'm sorry you didn't win any bids.

I agree, for discontinued or one of a kind items, like most turquoise, there is really no unreasonable price limit. It is on a case by case basis depending on how much the buyer wants the item. The items that are available new from the boutique which sold above the boutique price are the ones I can’t make any sense of.
Thank you for the kind words, but I set my price limit on the one item I wanted, and went to sleep at peace with whatever happened. In the end it sold for a very tiny amount above my bid (not the next higher bid increment), so I assume that it was the same bid as mine entered earlier with a currency conversion change in the interim. However, they could have bid $50k above my bid, and I was completely happy to win it at my top price or to use the $ towards something else.
I’m looking forward to checking out some of the other sold items later tonight to see what prices were realized.

What are people's most successful places to purchase a hard to get/discontinued/vintage preloved piece instead of at an auction house/online marketplace where the commission is 20-40% of the purchase price? This forum can definitely be a good source :) Any other favorite places?

Did you try the earrings? Or are you against earrings if not buying a matching ring?

@nicole0612 I’ve always been leery of auctions, especially since I would not get to see the piece in person and there’s no real recourse after the auction completes and you’ve paid for the item.

I want to see it, examine it etc., especially at those price points.
I completely agree. I went into my first auction without knowing this, and have been very cautious since then, realizing that it is in writing that they guarantee nothing regarding condition or modifications. Instead, it is the buyer’s responsibility to verify that the item meets their standards through visual inspection.

The availability of the piece in stores would definitely stop me from paying huge premium. 87k for a 20 motif turquoise wow. If it was the turquoise and pave I could see it. Knowing you it probably was that fabulous chrysoprase piece. I’m so bummed you didn’t win
