Hi and thanks for all this summary. Didn’t know about the price of a stone and how it is determined : not about location of the stone but where it went for the cut.How exciting! I can’t wait to see your new piece. Has it already been produced and you are waiting for it to be brought into your boutique? Or is it on order? When I asked about the Perlee Clover Hoops in YG my SA told me that there are none available in the market. They can be “backordered” but that would not protect the current price. I didn’t ask about HJ. And I didn’t place an order for the Perlee Clover Hoops. If I am going to pay the increased price anyway I see no reason to give VCA the use of my money until then.
Below I’ve cut and paste a post I made about tariffs in another thread. Just trying to make sense of it. I would also add that I recently learned Oscar Heyman Brothers (US-based jeweler known for HJ creations) will raise prices by 23% due to tariffs.
“I agree. That number astonished me. US tariffs have increased by a blanket 10% on all countries except for China (145%). A 90-day pause on higher tariffs is scheduled to lapse in July. If VCA is anticipating that lower rates will not be negotiated by July then the cost of materials, particularly diamonds and gemstones, will rise considerably. For example, tariffs would rise to 20% on goods from the EU (diamonds), 26% on goods from India (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds), 44% on goods from Sri Lanka and Myanmar (sapphires, rubies), and 46% on goods from Vietnam (sapphires, rubies, peridot). From what I understand, tariffs on diamonds and gemstones are levied based on where the stone is cut, not where the stone is mined. So although the jewelry is produced by an EU-based company US tariffs will be assessed based on the source of the materials.
With all of that said if VCA is raising prices in anticipation of higher tariffs it seems quite early to do so. Or perhaps suppliers are increasing their prices in similar anticipation. If higher tariffs are not/not imposed I hope VCA brings prices back down. But as the saying goes, “hope is not a strategy.”
The piece I just made a deposit is a piece I could try on 9. January 2025. My SA made the piece come (she saw one being at the end of production and ready to go to market and asked to make it deliver to my boutique (of course hoping I would buy). I tried them and again was love at first sight

- @MomMomx3 : « Clover Hoops in YG my SA told me that there are none available in the market. They can be “backordered” but that would not protect the current price » : what do you mean by backordered ? Is it different from ordering the piece ? 🙏🏻
- my comprehension about this price increase is : gold just rocketed above sky (refuge money) the last months. Of course diamonds are going slightly down but just a little. Other precious stones are also going up. So VCA and others are going to follow the market of their primary products. The also keep a « logic » between markets, like for Japan (if the yen 💴 goes down resp. to US$ or € they will get their own PI).
Better take your time. Better be sure and lose 500$ than have buying remorse … (and I am in the same position than yours. I even returned a BTF ring for not being sure …). I usually buy when I really am sure. And usually that works wellThank you. I assume also 4/25 PI? Now I have a bit of regret for not also placing BTF ring order. However I am unsure of size and also cannot decide pave vs mirror so probably need more time anyway 🙂
For yourself do you think about a ring that you only wear at home or work day free right ? Paved will of course be more « indestructible » whereas mirror finish is really beautiful but will
scratch a bit on some petals … I think I myself am torn between the love for frivole mirror finish and my rational saying that paved will stay longer without wear.
