What exactly is rock crystal? Why is it so elusive? Is it like clear quartz?
Credit to Wikipedia:
Pure quartz, traditionally called rock crystal or clear quartz, is colorless and transparent or translucent and has often been used for hardstone carvings, such as the Lothair Crystal. Common colored varieties include citrine, rose quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, milky quartz, and others.

My input: I love it more than most other VCA stones for personal reasons. I love antique jewelry, and rock crystal was commonly used in art deco jewelry, my favorite jewelry era. It also has a very similar appearance to portrait cut diamonds, which I also love for their transparency and uniqueness and own a few. Third, I am from the Pacific Northwest, and have fond memories of climbing mountains with my grandfather as a small child. He would always find special rocks along the trail, often beautiful clear agate stones or clear quartz with “sparkles” like the pyrite veins in lapis, so it brings up cherished memories for me.
I am guessing your question has a subtext; why is it not offered in the regular VCA line and why are resale prices so expensive? The answer is more psychological, like anything that is difficult to purchase, the perceived value increases, and resale prices reflect this. I suppose there are some people like me who love it for it’s intrinsic qualities and uniqueness, some who love it mostly because it is a challenge to get (which may be the reward in it itself, or may consciously or subconsciously seem to be some type of status symbol marker) or anything in between.
