Hi ,
I am considering buying the iside mini bag, but wondering about the wear and tear of the glazing especially where the flap bends when you open the bag.

How does your bag hold up ?
Any cracking ?
i have attached picture to show the stress point of the flap .

I can't speak to the Iside mini, but I've had my Twist Shoulder (oyster) for a few years and all the glazing is still impeccable. To me that's saying something because 1) I do not baby my bags and 2) there is A LOT of glazing on the Twist Shoulder.

Sorry it's not a direct comparison, but I hope it helps!

Hi Savoy85,

Thank you very much for your reply, that is very good then, that the glazing is impeccable.

I have seen on another thread Delvaux tempete bag), that someone shows a picture of her new bag , where it already cracks on that stress point. The bag was bought from the boutique.
So I was a bit stressed that this might happen also with the Valextra iside bag, with constant open and bending the flap up.

So I took out my 2 Iside minis and then my 2 Iside MM and had a look. They all look impeccable. The first mini dates to about 2016. I rotate all my bags, so the Valextras don’t get daily, but rather consistent use. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this brand.
If you live in a very dry climate you might get cracking on any leather, meaning that regular conditioning would be key.

hi JolieS,

Thank you for your advice . I am happy to know that all your Iside bag have an impeccable glazing .
I think I will pull the trigger. They have so many colors , is so difficult to choose

Post photos!!

What leather are you considering? I've never seen one IRL. I think the box is beautiful, but the pebbled (is it called Rodeo?) might be better for casual. I'm curious what you're looking at.

The Iside models are all pebbled calfskin, lined in chèvre (goatskin). Valextra calls this calfskin “martellato.” It has a soft grained finish that can be either casual or dressy. Other calfskin finishes they call “glossy” and “smooth silk.”
Rodeo is what Delvaux calls one of their calfskin finishes.
Hope this helps.

Whoops, right. Delvaux is Rodeo. I've just been learning a lot about both.

So this must be glossy or maybe smooth silk. I don't care for this bag size/colors, but I might like the leather.

I don't see these leather options on the website anymore, but they are out there second hand. I wonder if anyone out there can tell me what they think of this leather (e.g. how it wears and holds up) as compared to the martellato. The martellato is probably better for every day.

I don't have anything in box leather and people love it so much. I think I keep being drawn to box because I am so curious about it, but by what you are saying, this is not box, I continue to be confused about box.

Box calf is not a carefree leather, but can look very beautiful over time if properly cared for. Only you have the insight to your lifestyle to know whether it will work for you. Considerations: climate, travel, commuting on public transport, kids, pets, how well you care for your possessions in general.
At this point in your Valextra research, I’d suggest contacting the automated assistant on their website to ask for side-by-side pictures and descriptions of their various leather finishes.

I think that the difference is that pebbled leather does not show scratches. It will look like new longer. Smooth leather scratches easilly but after time the patina will hide the scratches. It will look less like new but the aged mirrorfinish is like nothing else out there.

How do you handle your bags? How do you want your bag to look in the long run? If you are practical, want a bag to be handsfree and sometimes bump into a wall grained would be better. If you wear your handheld bag to musea and luncheons than smooth is fine.

I once tried out a cheap bag made out of smooth leather. The first scratch made my heart sink. Smooth is not my thing. While my friend loves scratches on her bag. She loves her bag more with every scratch and dislikes bags that look new. Try to focus less on the leather but more what would fit you.

You can see old posts of my bag pictures here. I think I have about 6 or 7 Valextra. 3 different sizes of iside. All mine are holding up fine & I carries them through rain & snow. I also have Delvaux tempete MM myself & it's been carried a lot especially to work. It's holding up fine as well. Sometimes, you're just unlucky to get a bad batch.

Dear Monique,

Thank you for your information.
that is good that all the Valextra bags are holding up so well. I used to buy LV bags, but there quality is sometimes so dissapointed ( misaligned pattern of crooked flap etc.. ). Mine old bag of LV that are more than 10 years old were much better stitched and better quality.

I am also looking at the Delvaux brand . Is your Tempete bag MM is supple calf leather ? I think this leather is less sensitive to cratches than boxcalf ? Can you wear the Tempete MM as everyday bag ?

you.

For those who has Valextra bags in light colour, does they get dirty easily? Is the lining for iside bags in fabric/leather? Can't really tell from the website..
Valextra bags are lined in leather, with the exception of some of the large totes. The Iside line is lined in off-white chèvre, or goat skin, which doesn’t add too much weight to the bag.
I have one Iside bag in a light colour - poudre - a pinky beige. To date it hasn’t shown dirt, but I care for my bags by wiping them down with a microfibre cloth after use, and conditioning at least annually.
Hope this helps.
