Used my Damier Ebene Neverfull for 4 months, no problem...until now...

No I never did it on my Neverfull. It was a false alarm, my straps are just fine  No peeling!!! And yes i put oil on my Speedy handles a few years ago and they are still perfect and look gorgeous!

I'm glad your NF straps are fine and are not peeling. I'm also glad to hear that your Speedy handles are still in good shape with the oil. I've heard about other people not having been so lucky! That's why I thought I should leave a post.

I have been obsessing over buying a mono Neverfull GM but today I saw a woman at Dillards carrying a Damier (the dark brown - is that Ebene?) Speedy and it was so beautiful and classy that I am now obsessing over a Damier Neverfull.

So your straps are fine now? Did you have them repaired, and are you still happy with the bag? I don't really care for the Patina on mono LV's and don't want to have to worry about spots, etc. The Damier seems easier to care for since it's not vachetta.

I have both the Mono and Damier. Both are great for different purposes. My straps on the Damier Ebene never peeled, yay!!! They look great and I've worn the bag to death. This post I made awhile ago was a total false alarm. I actually checked the straps just yesterday and they were fine. However, I don't ever bend my straps or do anything that could possibly damage them ;)

Thanks StarBrite! Glad your straps are fine. Now I'm obsessing over both the Mono and Damier.

Nooooooo! I know that this post is a few months old, but I hope you haven't done this. Oil is the worst thing you can put on leather! Almost every kind of oil goes rancid eventually, and it will cause the leather to rot! It may take a while, but eventually it will begin to rot. There's a LOT to lose...like all the money it will cost to have all-new leather put on your bag. Once oil is applied to leather there is no way to remove it either. It is immediately absorbed. Check LV FAQ's/Vachetta FAQ's to find out more details about this. It hurt me to read these posts. Oil and leather are not compatible.

I agree with you completely! Also, oil will have an effect on the stitching.

Yes, it will corrode the stitching as well. Good point. It's just a better idea all around to allow the patina to develop through natural means, IMO, like setting it out in sunlight for a few hours a day and regular use. Creating an "instant patina" with oil isn't the way I would go about it. One of my friends took her Noe to a leather specialist and had the vachetta coated with some kind of tinted treatment to create a patina because she absolutely hates pale vachetta. Her Noe looks good, it has a nice vintage look to it, but still, I wouldn't do that. I leave the vachetta alone and let the patina develop on its own.

For a bag that you paid so much for that should not have happened! Still looks beautiful though (: But there is so much you can carry in it for it that to happen.. Maybe you should carry less? PS how do you like your neverfull? I'm torn between the neverfull and speedy!
