Trusted Hermes Reseller Discussion Thread

I'd kindly ask for advice on my first quota bag from Hermes. I'm from European Union. I wanted to buy through Fashionphile but customs, duties might be around 20% (sorry for not checking how much exactly, does anyone tried)?
Would you recommend Collector's Square for Europe? Or maybe trusted reseller of new bags? I dream of a new bag.
Here is my issue. I checked the updated $ of new bags from stores. To my surprise almost all seem relatively cheap, plenty around 7k. The same used (or in "like new" condition allegedly) are around 27k. All 10 items I added to my bag to compare are over 20k. If I was lucky in a store I'd buy 3 with that money. I get it, Hermes is hard to get, waiting list. Still.. paying for a bag that might be fake, might look different is scary. If it was legit SA who shopped just for me - I'd get it more. And brought me as close to my dream bag as possible. I hope you understand me. Could you advise me? I'm at a point that flying in trying to get in and making history of purchases makes more sense than dealing with a possible fake. I cannot believe that there are 0 SA who search for your bag. Without paying commission to redeluxe and so on. Sorry for ranting but I believe some of you went through this.

Trying to help here but want to be sure I'm answering your question (since my earlier reply to you didn't seem to help). If you want to buy a new bag from the boutique you will have to establish a relationship with an SA at a boutique or try your luck with the Paris lottery. If you want to buy a new bag from a reputable reseller, and you should always have the bag authenticated by a reputable advisor, you will likely pay a premium that reflects the real cost of the bag at the boutique. That real cost will include the cost of goods purchased to establish a good working relationship at the boutique. Over 20K is not at all unreasonable for a new Birkin or Kelly in a desired spec. And yes, many of us have gone through this and have found there are no easy or inexpensive answers to the question you pose. HTH :flowers:

Yes I get it now. However, I see there are some smaller (?) reseller who can shop for a bag just for you unlike the biggest resellers. (If I'm wrong and can ask let's say fashionphile "please find me blue celeste Kelly 25 in y leather" they won't bother. Am I right? I get it now. I wish the policy was "I'll spend let's say 50k and buy some scarfs, bracelets, pillows and then you'll allow me one of my bags within reasonable time - no more than 2 years" I'd be happy.

I think what you’re describing is a personal shopper who would find a bag for you. I’ve never used a service like that, and I personally wouldn’t recommend it because there aren’t enough safeguards to prevent fraud. This is my personal opinion only; others may disagree.

If you’re willing to spend 50k, why not buy a bag from an established reseller? You’ll get exactly the bag you want without waiting or compromising. In terms of getting the bag authenticated, any legitimate reseller should be willing to provide any necessary photographs for an authentication, and should guarantee that the bag is authentic in any case.

Essentially you will pay ~25K Euro for a ‘quota’ bag no matter what.

Either you’ll buy various Hermès items that you like (scarves, RTW, SLGs, etc) and a bag from Hèrmes over time OR you’ll just by a bag from a reseller immediately. In the first example, you’ll have various items you like AND a bag but over a year or more; in the second example, you’ll only have a bag but instantly. As @textilegirl points out, you’ll want to get any bag purchased from any reseller authenticated, ‘trusted’ or not.

Because so many people mentioned mixed reviews and more importantly, an established reseller sells 'used' bag to varying degree and I'd like a new bag. Being a first user and so on. Not looking for signs of usage. I hope you understand it.

Yes, I do understand. The first road gives me more items and ironically a better history so that I have a better chance of getting a second bag more easily. Through reseller I'm still nobody. Well, no one said it is easy.

Thank you for the extra pictures! The snug fit may cause very minor damage to the resin on the sides of the front flap and/or to the seams around the edges of the bag, but you shouldn’t notice any major issues long term.

Tips:
1) It will help if you store the bag lying flat on its back in the dustbag, this way you’re dealing mainly with the inward force of the dustbag as opposed to both the inward force of the dustbag and the downward gravitational force (which causes bags to sag over time).

2)You also might be able to get a new dustbag from Hermès if you send the bag in for Spa, though this is not guaranteed. I haven’t had this issue at Madison, but I know of many people who have said they didn’t receive a dustbag from Spa.

3)For a couple of my secondhand bags that I purchased without a dustbag, I’ve ordered custom, plain silk dustbags from Etsy. I’ve even resorted to storing some bags in silk pillowcases. I try not to be too fussy about it; as long as the bag is covered and lying on its back, I’m happy.;)
Thanks for your tips and insight! It's greatly appreciated... Always thought I was a Birkin girl but am getting to love my Kelly so much🥰

There are established resellers who are known for having a decent inventory of brand new bags; many people prefer a new bag. You will of course pay for the privilege.

I assume these bags are purchased by clients with the intention of flipping the bag for profit, as opposed to someone who realized they made a mistake or changed their mind after living with the bag past the return window. Some also may not wish to go through the process of actually returning the bag to the boutique.

As many have said, either way the 'true' cost is approximately 25k, no matter what: either the 'premium' is in the forms of other H goodies and absolute authenticity OR certainty of getting your wish with no absolute certainty on authenticity. That’s just how Hermes is. The ideal of having a 'cheap', new, guaranteed authentic bag, quickly doesn’t exist.

Many mitigate the risk by using authenticators or buy from reputable resellers.

I personally cannot stomach the 0.0000001% chance of my bags being fake, regardless of authentication, esp those I can get from the shop. But for discontinued bags, I do compromise by getting them from the likes of Collector’s Square and Sotheby. I know ppl complain that the description can be off, there are undisclosed smell problems, etc but so far, I've been lucky.

Important is, please do your reseach and act accordingly based on your risk appetite and knowledge. Good luck!

I would'nt risk this sort of 'personal shopper'..
Others have given sound advice..Either go the boutique route or pay premium and buy from a REPUTABLE re-seller

Has anyone purchased or have experience with gloss_vintage on IG?
Purchased a bag from her that was sold to me as "new" when it was not new whatsoever, it was 'like new' (there were signs of wear all over the bag). I was unfortunately desperate for a certain color combination that had been discontinued while I was waiting on it from H otherwise I would've never gone ahead with it. Her response to that was "we didn't notice the markings during our quality check" and offered a HKD5,000 discount on my next purchase. I obviously never purchased anything from her again!

@lirienn , you might want to read the prespend threads bc there is no guarantee, even at 5X plus prespend, that you will get the bag you want via the boutique route with the time frame mentioned. If the bag color or specs are rested, there is zero chance. I recommend that those who do not adore boutique merchandise* go reseller bc it is cheaper in the end. (I buy both boutique and well priced** resale). I would not buy from an instagram seller, personal shopper, individual unknown, TRR in general. Agree with @textilegirl , @maxroxxherhandbags , @tinkerbell68 , and others above.

ETA : * enough to purchase even without a chance of a bag.
** I do not personally buy bags at resale that are over retail price, but I am generally looking for heritage leather and do not mind investing in Hermes or third party professional spa services. During covid shelter in place was the last time significant deals were available, but the price of resale is dropping.

Ahh interesting. Were you able to authenticate the bag and prove its authenticity at least?
