I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties with The Real Real. I started selling with them a year ago and have sold 14 bags with them, including Birkins and Kelly bags. They have paid promptly, direct deposit
On the 15th of the month following the sale. I have had a few tiny hiccups such as price disagreement but it’s always been adjusted to my suggestions. I do think they take quite a while (usually 3-4 weeks) to list which is frustrating. I always send detailed descriptions of my bags so they know what the color, leather and other details are. They have sent a representative to my home to collect my bags which I appreciate. I never have used the “buyout” feature, just regular consignment. I used to sell on eBay but after an unpleasant buyer with one of my Chanel bags, I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble.
I'm so happy you had a good experience. I just can't trust them with anything high-value after they assigned me someone else's LV bag and began to pay me several hundred dollars that was supposed to go to someone else. I actually had to fight to stop payment - multiple texts.
If I sent them a Birkin and they paid someone else for it I would "not be best pleased".

Seller in question is: luxurylimited on Poshmark

This seller has a large number of listings, in the hundreds I think. Many are Hermes scarves.

I inquired about a listing for a 90cm silk scarf. The scarf in question was a very popular one. Condition is listed as pristine, but without store or care tags. However, the photos show a scarf with both store tag and attached care tag.

When asked about this, the seller responded that they had bought several of the scarf, with this one intended for framing, as an explanation for why the tags were removed. I asked if they could provide current pics of the actual scarf for sale, i.e. for my use in getting an authentication estimate. They didn’t really say yes or no, but just commented that Poshmark will authenticate in the middle due to the price of the item. Which is certainly true.

That said, I don’t really know how much we trust Poshmark’s authentication on Hermes scarves, and considering there will not be a care tag…

Thoughts? Is it generally common that a larger reseller would use pics from previous listings and not think much of it? Or is this a massive red flag and I should even possibly report the listing because this pics are not of the actual item for sale?

Thanks in advance!

The refusal to provide you with photos of the actual item after you asked is a red flag for me and I would not buy it. I think it is common for sellers to reuse photos (though not a good practice) but you are within your rights to ask for photos of the ACTUAL item you would be buying.

They should’ve replied with a photo of the scarf for sale. Not difficult surely? I’d avoid any seller doing this.

The second hand market is an odd “animal”. One can’t expect a perfect marketplace so I would exercise care. With Posh, you can file for a return if the item not as described. However, in case of authenticity, the burden of proof is on you - to proof that the item isn’t authentic. Recent fakes are good - really good - so it could be a hard case to argue. I would stay away if you can’t confirm or see the scarf’s specs prior to purchase. Keep in mind that care tags could be removed and reattached from different scarves in and out so presence of the caretag doesn’t automatically render the scarf authentic.
As far as luxury limited - it is true, this guy was buying scarves left and right and tried to sell them framed (I saw a lot of framed scarves in his profile) but I suppose it didn’t take off, so he is selling his inventory..

They don’t have a store, but are located not too far away from me. I have dealt with them quite a few times (primarily buying but also consigned some used bags) and their team is lovely and professional. They ship out fast and returns are easy. In the past they even dropped off bags at my house given they are as close. However, I slightly changed my opinion as a buyer after some minor “incidents“ (not related to service, authenticity or the like) that annoy me personally. However, I am uber picky and have a certain standard that I apply when I sell any of my used bags and expect the same when purchasing excellent condition. I see they have a very low return rate, so it might be me. I know some of the bags they sell as I have friends consigning with them and their experience has always been great. Reliable, uncomplicated. I now only purchase with caution myself as I hate returning.
Have you ever asked them if you can go over and see a bag in person? I am from Munich too and was expecting to find an office at their address. But it rather looks like a private home?!

Hi all - Sorry if this has been asked / answered before! When buying a bag from a reseller, some would say that only a copy receipt is available rather than the original receipt. What is the reason that the reseller won’t share the original receipt with the buyer?

Is it because it’s a fake?

Is it that they are afraid that Hermes will find out?

Or any other reasons?

I am speculating here, but it could be a few reasons:
  • maybe it's because they want to black their personal info out, for privacy--and it's easier to make a copy first then black it out
  • maybe they have more than one item on the receipt and want to keep it for return or insurance purposes
  • maybe they are like me (super OCD about paperwork ) and want to keep all their original receipts
  • or a combination of the above
In thinking about it, ask yourself: would you send your original receipt to a stranger, with all your personal information on it?
But also study the receipt very carefully; compare it to one of your receipts, that you know is authentic, and use best judgment

Has anyone from the U.S. purchased a bag from Ruelamode using bank transfer before? I've read on here that they are a reputable reseller from Singapore. Could anyone please advise me on this?

I've bought small items before and no issues though it's transacted through face to face.

Recently I am selling through lexluxicon.
