Treatment in Hermes Stores

Anyone have any advice?
I have long enjoyed luxury brands and admiring them from afar. I want to go into the store to see these beautiful bags in person, but here is the crux of the matter: I am a young person (for the demographics of this forum-- still in school) and I worry that I would get odd looks or even less than cordial treatment were I to venture into the store. any tips or counsel for a luxury loving dreamer?

I think there are H stores with less than friendly staff and there are those with very welcoming ones. But even if they're giving you the side eye because you look like you don't belong in there, just go in and browse. Eventually one will approach you and may be the perfect SA for you! It's their loss if they don't entertain you.

I found that the men seem to be more open to engage in conversation at first. Though my local boutique has grown on me. At first I thought the SA were kind of stand off-ish. But then this one male SA really helped me out. It could be the vibe we give off when we walk in. I find that if I go in knowing what to look for the SAs are super friendly.

The last 3-4 times I walked in both male and female SAs have been super nice. When I first asked about the Kelly, my SA was super helpful in explaining the process of obtaining one and how they like to sell to people who really appreciate Hermes.

Btw every time I walk in I look like something the cat dragged in with my cheaper jujube diaper bags and toting two kids. We don't dress wealthy but we are super cheery and nice. And we show our SA how grateful we are for their help.

All of these comments are so wonderful to read and so on the mark. I have found another gesture that has been met with kind appreciation: leaving positive reviews about your preferred H (and SAs mentioned by name) on Yelp and other public online review sites.

Many times these sites contain negative reviews about H stores because people make comments lambasting perceived snottiness and/or reticence by SAs and find the prices exorbitant. I've made it a point to leave extremely positive reviews of wonderful experiences I've had in various H locations (I've had the great luck to visit about 15 different stores here and there)...and have either had store personnel voluntarily bring up those reviews themselves or respond extremely appreciatively when I've mentioned them.

I've raved more than once about my own home store and have mentioned several of their staff by name- and I have to say that the treatment and service that I've gotten from them has been consistently nothing short of spectacular. Since my home store is a 5 hr drive away and I cannot visit it more than a few times a year I often email the store director ahead with wish lists for them to get in for me a few weeks before I visit. Then the items are waiting for me to try on/investigate when I make it to town.

I do not have a B/K/C but have been a faithful shopper of many other various items across many of the product lines at my home store and several others for a few years. I have almost no doubt that I could broach the subject of a B easily at this point.

Another thing: show off your knowledge of H products and details! I've found, time and again, that store staff really warm to people who know the difference between epsom and swift, who appreciate the difference between bleu hydra and bleu electrique, who know sizing of bags, etc. If you haven't established a long selling record in a given store with a specific employee, then demonstrating that you have a strong devotion to the brand and a passion for understanding product details can go a long way towards creating a deep relationship quickly.

Finally: I've found that, especially when visiting unfamiliar stores, asking to speak to the store director him/herself and offering up a compliment or two about certain SAs or the store itself can establish a lot of goodwill on the way out. Since I travel a fair amount I always try to remember a name or two from stores I know I'll return to, if even once a year. H SAs have good memories of people they have good times with or who are somehow memorable in one way or another, even if a few months-a yr has gone by.

I love H stores and find the people lovely and hope all others who visit do too. :)

I've been in H stores where I didn't get approached much simply because the store was busy at the time but have never found someone who was haughty or intentionally rude. I did find that the Las Vegas stores were a bit distant- a sort of "get em in, get em out" approach that no doubt is related to the high turnover and tourist-oriented market of the city...but in almost every other case I've felt like I left having had a good time meeting new friends.

Have heard that the LV stores are very upfront about how much you need to spend immediately in order to score a B/K.

You are a lovely customer indeed, good suggestions made. I do write to Coporate, but mainly for the SAs and SMs I know reasonably well. It is a nice reward for the great service I get.

I'd actually like a definitive answer on this. My SA from the Los Angeles area said that the LV store is luck. If you are lucky to see it on the shelves then you can get it. Which makes sense because it is a heavily touristy area and many of their clientele are probably not from the area.

Chamise, Have heard point blank a few times that at the H LV stores the SAs will say, "You need to spend such-and-such and then we can sell you a B/K". No luck as far as what I have heard, just an upfront high-spend amount. Hope this helps.

And a friend just back from LV told me that an SA (who had told her essentially the same thing) added, "Sometimes our clients feel like splurging, because they have [cough, cough] recently come into some money." It is Las Vegas, after all!

Hi dear Vigee-- I always love your posts! I was in LV the 3 days before Christmas a few months back and was astounded to see sitting on a shelf, not behind glass, in plain view and easy to handle, a 60cm HAC. I asked the staff if it was a display item or if it was for purchase and they said it was available to buy to whomever wanted it. I believe it was in the $15k range. I had never seen a B/K/C/HAC that large, not behind glass, out in the open, freely available like that.

If you want a great shop with a FANTASTIC staff, you must try Charlotte, NC. Down-to-earth, hard working, genuine, approachable. I get on a plane and visit twice a year. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.

Thanks, Hermezzy! You are a sweetheart. :hugs:

Mr. Carre, this information I am going to keep in the back of my mind just in case my SA ever leaves H. Thanks for letting us know and I have always wanted to visit Charlotte, NC.

was this the blue one at Encore? i believe it's too big to hide hehe it wont get sold unless displayed. i still think regular size B/K/C are hidden.. i've only seen kp's only in exotic displayed (behind glass).. a K35 croc offered to me was from backroom, not displayed.. i find the Crystals staff less "dismissive"...

Thanks for the tip! I go there for work sometimes and I just noticed they have a store there. I plan to check it out next time I am there.

In my local store, my SA said that their policy is they can ship small leather goods, shoes, scarves, clothing, jewelry etc. up to $1500 to any address and $1500-$5000 has to be sent to billing address. No purchasing of bags through phone order are allowed though. I know Crystals LV already has a similar policy though I'm not sure what the limits are. Maybe you can ask your SA if they can do this for you when you are in the US?

I wish I know how to make this happen with my SA. I just moved to a country where I have zero relationship with any SA and there's no H in my city and I really like my SA in the U.S. a lot. I'll still travel back to the U.S. a few times an year and I would really love to have the convenience of placing the order over the phone from my US SA and have them ship to my U.S. address whenever I hear about something I might like.
