Thank you for that info. I live very close to the Wall Street so it is very easy for me to stop by. I'll stop by tomorrow when it's not snowing. I like to dress up for Hermes.. :graucho:

Lol you can wear a paper bag in there and you'll be treated well :). I love the WS store. Good luck!!!

By chance if you are interested in vintage, Heritage Auctions is running an auction on Thursday at the Waldorf. There will be Birkins. It's probably going to be more expensive than buying at the store, but letting you know in case this is also an option for you. Tomorrow night is a private preview night.

Edit: auction is Monday. Read the invitation incorrectly!

I have been looking at Purseforum and wanting a Birkin for years... and finally my husband has agreed to get me one for my birthday. I have been reading and studying the posts and finally went to the NY Madison store on Saturday morning. I was really nervous bc I never bought a bag from Hermes before.

Luckily the store was empty on Saturday morning, I talked with a male SA and he asked me which colors I am looking for. He went to the back and said they do not have those colors. He said he will call me if any of those colors will come in. I asked him if he knows when.. he said he doesn't know.

Do you think I should wait for his call? Or should I keep going to the Madison store and ask? Or should I go to a different stores and ask?

I am so confused what to do... any advices?? :shucks::cry:
Ok, I am going to follow everyone's ideas, I inquired at my local store (King of Prussia PA) and was brushed off and told ohhh they are so backed up and it will be at least two years. I went back and bought an Evelyne bag and did not even ask this other SA about Birkins. But now I am going to return and hopefully someone will take down my info and my color preferences.

Are the SAs nice if they know you're not going to buy? Or do they act snooty if they know or think you're not going to buy anything??

The reason I ask is, I just LOVE to admire bags: bags I love, bags I hate, bags I can afford, bags I can't afford. I just enjoy bag browsing and get a high off of it. Whenever I am in nice malls I will walk through almost every single bag store.

Today, at King of Prussia, was the first time I have ever encountered a Hermes store and for some reason, I was AFRAID to go in. I can't afford it in any fashion and even if I could, it's not my style, but I really wanted to look around for fun.

I have no problem parading into Armani or Versace with no intent of purchase...but this store was almost like a fort...you couldn't see through the windows. It intimidated me or something lol.
Sorry I am so late in coming to this thread but I have only just ventured to the ORANGE side! :)

I visited my local Hermes store today and they were wonderful - so welcoming, so accommodating and so so attentive! I have only visited with them once before yet they remembered my name, what I had purchased and a number of details about my likes and dislikes etc - I was very impressed. There was no snootiness or pretentiousness, just friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff who went out of their way to assist me.

The SA also spent a great deal of time sitting with me and going through the books showing me the designs, colours and styles of bags available and noting what I did and didn't like about each. I am ENTIRELY confident that as and when any of my choices come in, my SA will definitely be in touch with me :)

I am delighted by the level of service so far! :) x

That's wierd. Try again. That store is usually quite accomodating.

Make sure you check the condition of the bag very carefully before buying. Very few are pristine and like new. Most are used.

Hello Orange Lovers

I wanted to get your thoughts on this. I'm fairly new to the world of orange :). I bought my first item last summer from the Madison Ave store, a canvas Garden Party. The SA that helped me was Bukky. I did get her card before I left. I was going to contact her a week later to buy a couple of smaller things - belt kit, CDC, twillies but I opted against it. It was nothing against the SA. I wanted to really plan my purchases and not just buy to buy to get a birkin. I have a tendency when I start buying a "new to me" brand to go a little overboard and when the rush is over I'm thinking WHAT DID I DO!!

So my plan was to vacation in Hawaii this year and Paris next year and try my luck there and buy one or two thing from Bukky here in NY (that I really wanted not on impulse) to start a relationship in case my plans didn't work.

Fast forward to yesterday... I received a card in the mail and to my surprise when I opened it it was a handwritten note from Hermes Madison. The note was inviting me to view the Spring/Summer collection. The funny thing was it was from a SA by the name of Ida. When I went to Hermes to buy my bag last year, Bukky and the cashier were the only SAs I spoke with and the cashier's name on my receipt wasn't Ida.

Has anyone else received similar invitations? Can you tell me about your experience? Maybe Bukky's no longer there and that's the reason why someone else reached out? I'm definitely going to contact her and set-up some time. It also seemed like an open invitation to help with anything I'm looking for but want to make sure I don't burn any bridges in the process.

^ Hi and welcome to Hermes! I think those invitations are sent out to the store's database of customers or anyone who has purchased in the last 12 months or so.

I'm sure they would love for you to drop by and purchase from the new collection, but I don't think you need to read too much into the handwritten invitation and who it is signed by.

If you had a great experience with Bukky, I would stick to buying from her. If you are interested in checking out the new S/S collection, maybe you can call and ask if Bukky is available to show you?

I wanted to get your guys' s thought on something that happened the other day. I am fairly regular to my local H store and have a particular SA I always work with. The other SA' s who recognize me when I walk in will always go, "I'll grab [your SA]" when they see me without me even having to prompt them.

Anyway, I recently had my hours changed at work, so my schedule now conflicts with my SA' s a lot. I walked into the store a few nights ago, and I had just missed my SA by a few minutes. The associate who was behind the desk said, "Sorry, they just left," and went back to what she was doing. I thought it was kind of weird she didn't ask if she could help me instead. I don't know, is it weird that I now have a reputation for working with one person? Or is there a courtesy rule that associates don't go after each other's clients? If I had desperately needed something that night, I would have asked, but I just decided to find out when my SA was working next when I was off work.

Bukky is my SA at Madison and I really like her demeanor and "style" of doing things. She's not pushy, impatient and has absolutely no pretense. She also found me an "oxer" bag without me having any purchasing history there prior to that bag. But frankly, I've had great experiences with most every SA there! The men's store...is another story :(

Hmmm, How do you find the men's store? When I've gone in to buy gifts, I thought the SAs seemed quite pleasant, but admittedly, I'm not in there often enough to make a qualified judgement. Have you gone in recently? Maybe their demeanor has changed - I was last there before the holidays. Interestingly, the SA I spoke with said they could order men's items from France if the U.S. didn't have it - I was looking for a specific pair of cuff links. I didn't take them up on their offer that day, and eventually my own SA had them in her store a week later so just bought them from her.

perhaps the other stores I've been to have spoiled me. The treatment I've received at the men's store has been far from icy but its very "forced" if you will. They are smiling with their mouths but frowning with their eyes if that makes any sense. I am absolutely not the type that expects SA's to fawn all over me but when I've gone to the FSH store or the Ginza store I've experienced genuinely nice SA's that have gone above and beyond. At the FSH store I was offered a matte croc HAC 40, a flag HAC, and a togo HAC 40 in etoupe. WHen they showed me the etoupe and the flag and I was hesistant on both, so she looked in their system and said "well we do have a matte croc HAC in noir" and I told them that that was absolutely out of budget but they were like "well lets just have a look, I want to see it on you.If nothing else it will be fun to play dress up. I'm curious to see it as well" and they brought it out and they just seemed genuinely kind and courteous. Even when it came down to buying the flag HAC she was absolutely no pressure. SHe was like "i'll put it on hold for you, take a walk around the neighborhood, think about it. if you still cant get it off your mind later, come back and it'll be here waiting for you".

So while the service at the men's store has not been bad, I guess I've been spoiled! and the service at the hermes in Korea is HORRIBLE!!! ugh I shudder just thinking about it!

Yes, I can see the "forced" feeling at the men's store.

Very nice service at FSH!! Dress up is so much fun, though v. dangerous bc then you might start talking yourself into actually buying it. Matte croc noir HAC, gorgeous.

Here are my thoughts but I buy mainly online - occaisonly in store - so other people here may have better words of wisdom.

Even if you are known to be a client of a specific SA, I think it was rude for the person not to ask if they could assist you. It may have been unintentional - they may have just assumed you only wanted to deal with your SA. Also, I suspect that there is courtesy rule not to go after each other's clients. If your new work schedule poses a challenge in meeting with your current SA, I would suggest talking to him/her about it - maybe your current SA could recommend another "backup" SA to deal with when the two of can't meet because of your schedules.
