Yep. I told to him that I planned to buy a scarf for gift for a lady in 30's (my mentor). Obviously he had no intention to close the deal casue he didn't ask me the normal types of questions: which size are you looking for?70 or 90? Which material? silk or silk/cotten or silk/jersey? Do you know which color does that lady prefer?.....He just showed me some scarfs randomly and locked them back into the counter quickly then.....

I mean WTF?????? Why do they hire a such unprofessional guy like this?

BTW I was dressing appropriately today...decent enough to walk in....

I usually will just walk out
Wasting my time
Will not let such behaviour earn my money

Soooooooooooo horrible like a nightmare lol. I worked as trainee in Cartier @ Richemont group a few years ago and participated some mysterious shopper tests...If I were the mysterious shopper today, this SA would be probably get 0...In Piaget (another brand from Richemont group), SAs would get fired if he/she fail in the mysterious shopper test.

I mean if he is unwilling to sell a scarf for me, it's OK, cause I don't want to buy anything for him...But please, just don't show it on your face or in your tone you're speaking....
Oh I'd love to be a mystery shopper for a day or two. Cartier is always very professional, sometimes a little cold, but always polite. I only go there to get my watch serviced.

I had the most "Paris-like" experience in the Madison Avenue store today. I apologize in advance to regular Madison Avenue clients as perhaps this is not as unusual as I think but I visit Madison somewhat frequently and have never seen people being told to come back at a certain time "as we might have a shipment" or been there when the shipment arrived to a frenzy similar to FSH. The one thing that was unlike Paris is that all the SAs were lovely and it was more like a party celebrating the shipment than a bunch of aloof SAs turning customer request down and pretending that the shipment did not exist. I went home with a Kelly and a big smile.

Congratulations for you! I was at Madison store today and also left with a big smile and a Birkin.

To anyone who is interested, I was there a couple of weeks ago and asked for an Evelyn in red or blue and bought a beautiful turquoise. Then I asked for kelly cut or kelly pochette, but he SA said there were none.

This week I came back to see her again and she said they still haven't anything, but asked me to come back today at 1pm since they would receive a new shipment. When she saw me today, she said I was my lucky day and because they had received quite a few birkins and kellys, but no clutches. I then asked for birkin 30 and told the colours I already have and she came back with this amazing brule togo B with GHW. She said they also had turquoise (but I'd just bought an Evelyn in this colour, so passed away) and orange (I already have B35 in this colour). So of course I said yes to the brown, which came home with me. Couldn't be happier!

Congrats to both of you! Wow, I need to visit the store now! The store used to be famed for being difficult. Glad to hear things have changed for the better:)

This is such a happy story, certainly gives me hope :). I wonder if they'll relax the rule of 1 b or k every 6 months. To be offered sth without being on a waitlist is already big improvement I guess. Congrats hermesaddicted!
Well, I don't if kelly cut or pochette counts as a kelly concerning B/K limit, but after I bought the birkin the SA said: oh, don't be sad about the clutch, you're a sweet girl and buying the birking doesn't mean you can't buy later kelly cut/pochette, if we get any of these. She also told me that she hasn't seen any in the store for a month (don't know if it's true) and that they were selling more egee and falco (in which I'm not interested). She then said she would give me a call if they receive the clutch I'm looking for. Such a nice SA!

Congratulations on your new B and finding such a nice SA, hermesaddicted!

I visited the Hermes boutique in the Back Bay area of Boston for the first time a few days ago. It was quite busy, but all the SA's smiled whenever we made eye contact even though they were assisting someone else. When one was finally available, she approached me to ask if I needed help with anything. I was carrying my Celine phantom during the time, so perhaps that played a part in how politely they treated me (I hope not!). I will be returning soon because I'm interested in getting a Picotin Lock in brown.

I was just there today for the first time (Back Bay Hermes) and they were super friendly, I got on the waiting list for a Collar de Chien. They were so happy to help me and show me their bracelets and scarfs, I tried on a few things. I was wearing jeans and a Louis Vuitton Damier bag.

What a gorgeous bracelet! Congratulations in advance! Maybe we can go together when you pick it up--I'll PM you! (Oh my gosh, do I sound like a creepster? I swear I'm not! Haha!) I've been wanting to get something from Hermes, too--can't decide between a Picotin Lock or a Bearn.

Nahreen - thankfully the groceries stores don't operate this way! I agree with most of your post except with your comment about allowing the purses to be purchased on a first come first serve basis. These purses are in such high demand that it seems right to me that loyal customers of the brand get first dibs on these coveted items, and not the one off customer who comes in only looking for a B/K and nothing else (that customer can always buy through a reseller). Having said that, there is absolutely no need for any SA to engage in racial profiling and there is no reason why anyone should have to dress a "certain way" to get service (the posts that I read where people plan how they should dress in order to score a purse baffle me - it is not like you are meeting the *****).

I have to say I find that ridiculous. I know it's a personal opinion but "loyal customers" should not get dibs. My money is just as good as your money and if they have an item available for purchase I should be able to buy it. Resellers 1. I shouldn't have to go to a reseller when there are bags available in a store 2. They charge a ridiculous premium and when I'm already gonna throw down $20k I should have to pay an extra $5k to a "loyal customer" trying to make a quick dollar. I myself do not love H as a brand. I think their scarves are ugly and most of the jewelry as well. I don't particularly like any other bags besides the Birkin and Constance. I shouldn't have to go into their store and buy a bunch of crap I don't like or want just to be deemed fit enough to purchase the one thing I do want.

That's the way Hermes markets their harder to get items (or what they position as harder to get) and it's pretty much the way most high-end luxury retailers market their harder to get items, too. Good news: you can always shop through a reseller if you don't want to deal with the store. There are lots of Birkins and Constances on the secondary market.

I've never had an issue with any other luxury brand. I don't own any handbag that isn't a designer brand. I walk into chanel and if they have the bag I'm looking for, they sell it to me. I shouldn't have to purchase second hand. I'm not really worried about getting a birkin from a specific store, I know that there are stores around the world you can walk in and get one if they have one, so it's a moot point. I'm mainly speaking on the opinion of women on here that think they deserve preferential treatment because they spend more money there than I do and that makes them more valued as a customer. Obviously someone who loves everything hermes makes and considers it "their brand" will spend more than I. I would never tell someone looking for a chanel flap that I deserve it more and they can go get theirs from secondhand if they want one, that's preposterous.

I want a new unused bag and I don't want to buy it second hand at a marked up price. I understand from this forum that there are quite a lot of new bags offered second hand and I don't want to encourage that type of re-selling to make a profit. Hermes does not want that either and that is why they have limited the purhases of B and K to one per year.

Golly.

Sorry, I disagree. Every company has ways of rewarding their most loyal customers, especially when it comes to limited items. I think for the most part I've been treated very fairly at Hermes and I would expect that someone who regularly spends $$$ is going to be offered items at a different level than someone who shops there once and only wants the one item that is hardest to get.

There's nothing wrong with reselling or making a profit. There is a range if resellers with a range of markups and items, new and used. I've bought from resellers and the store and see no real difference.
