Treatment in Hermes Stores

The race issue really bothers me. I had hoped we had come longer as humans. I was born in Bangladesh but was adopted as a baby and have lived all my life in Sweden. I've never had an issue here in the designer stores, always been treated nicely. Some of the SAs working in the stores here also seem to be non-Swedish originally. Partly the thought of being rejected at FSH because of how I look, scares me and is one of the reasons I've never gone there. No bag is worth that humiliation.

Unfortunately not.
The reason sydney is so bad is as mentioned above is that the Asian tourists are SA magnets.

I have only just found an SA in LV that will actually help me and he happens to be the assistant store manager in Brisbane.

Yes I imagine NYC would be terrible.

Nahreen - thankfully the groceries stores don't operate this way! I agree with most of your post except with your comment about allowing the purses to be purchased on a first come first serve basis. These purses are in such high demand that it seems right to me that loyal customers of the brand get first dibs on these coveted items, and not the one off customer who comes in only looking for a B/K and nothing else (that customer can always buy through a reseller). Having said that, there is absolutely no need for any SA to engage in racial profiling and there is no reason why anyone should have to dress a "certain way" to get service (the posts that I read where people plan how they should dress in order to score a purse baffle me - it is not like you are meeting the *****).

Your absolutely right about everything you said.

Hermes is not some homogenous monolith. There are good stores and bad, good SAs and bad. The same as any other retailer with whom I've dealt. I have seen far more rude and obnoxious customers than rude and obnoxious SAs. In fact, I can count the poor experiences I've had at Hermes stores on half of the fingers of one hand. The horrible customers I've witnessed at many stores? Innumerable.

I have seen people of many ethnicities, skin colours, backgrounds be treated courteously and professionally and walk out with purchases. No matter how they were dressed or what bag or goods they were carrying.

I never expect anything other than friendly, professional service in any store I go into. I don't want or expect food, drinks, fawning or special treatment. I have read plenty of posts here that show people have obtained excellent service at a variety of Hermes stores, and yet people persist in focusing on the poorer experiences. People constantly point out that it's difficult to obtain Birkins or Kellys and that is true. Every high end retailer generally preserves limited items for their best customers. It's not exclusive to Hermes.

If you feel you have been mistreated, speak to the manager or vote with your wallet. But at the end of the day, it's just a store that sells expensive goods. There is plenty of competition. Buy elsewhere if you feel you are personally being targeted or not being treated as you wish and the situation has not been redressed to your satisfaction.

I think I was helped by William a few weeks ago in Madison, and he was quite nice! On the flip side, it's really hard to maintain a 100% top notch attitude when you work in high end retail... Especially in the Madison store where sales competition is fierce.

So many great people at Madison!!! Love Linda with the glasses, she used to be at Manhasset. George is awesome! Lincoln, too. Love the more managerial people, too. Many friendly people; A great team. Yesterday was a madhouse, and I got fabulous treatment, even as I dawdled after running into friends. I felt bad as I saw a rather nice-looking woman try to exchange a fake scarf!

And I always try to sing the praises of Manhasset. Most of the staff is very knowledgeable. If someone does not come over to you to help almost immediately, it's because they are all helping other people; I've seen them doing their best to coordinate at the busier times. If I think of all the staff now and for the last few years, they are all friendly and helpful.

Outstanding post. I was trying to say this in a earlier post but you are more eloquent than I. Bravo!!!

I was at SCP on Saturday. The service was not good. I walked in with my mom, sister in law and no one welcome or look at us. Only a security guard follow us around. A SA rolled her eyes on us when we asked for our SA, and she was on lunch break and I asked to see some scarves with another SA, the ones I wanted were either sold out or the SA wasn't helpful, i asked for a few and he told me sold out and check back in 3 weeks. I left empty hand.

I love Hermes near Wall Street, NY. I think it is the best H store worldwide even it is small, you cannot find better service elsewhere. I hate those snobby SAs in those luxury goods stores, I won't ever throw $'000s of dollars just to feel bad about myself.

I'm Black and I've had nothing but excellent service at FSH and rue de Sèvres. I find if I treat people nicely they'll almost always do the same in return. Those who don't - who exist in all walks of life - aren't my responsibility to please (but I'm still polite). Do pop into FSH when you're next in Paris, even if it's just to see the lovely interior :smile1:

I agree with this post. I also agree with all the TPF'ers who say they have had great service at Wall Street. Although I have never entered the actual Wall Street store and all of my experience has been via phone, they have been superlative. As has KOP

I have to say that the staff at the Hermes counter in Harrods where 1st class. My husband was purchasing a gift for me and I couldn't decide between a Kelly Double Tour or our subsequent purchase of the beautiful Folklore 140 scarf and two delightful SA's went back and forth for me until I made up my mind. They were so helpful with ideas for tying the scarf too. It was a very busy Saturday afternoon and the department was full of tourists but I felt 'special' to them.

The little gift of two perfume samples in the gift bag was a lovely touch too!

I love hearing stories of wonderful experiences, LynneC. So glad you received such great service, and enjoy your scarf! (Your beautiful cat, prompted my post! I have a soft spot for grey tiger kitties, having grown up with one.) :smile1:

+10000000

I agree! I have only ever heard perfect things about Wall St. client service!

And I understand not getting a bag and the awkward process in trying to get a bag may be misconstrued by some as racism, but trust me when I say I have seen plenty of blond haired, blue eyed people getting rejected when asking for a birkin....
