I responded to a comment from vlad that none of the authenticators work as paid authenticators on the side.
A little transparency would be nice.
I'm just curious, is Vlad's comment on this thread?

Well, I've never heard any authenticator say what I bolded, or anything close to that.
I've heard and seen authenticators say/suggest that if the poster doesn't care for their advice, he/she is more than welcome to use a paid service, if he/she deems that advice to be more official/professional. This is not meant to be snarky, and if ones takes it that way, well, I guess there's really no other nice way to say it.

I have to disagree. I know there is at least one Chanel authenticator who has a link to their authentication business in their signature and use that biz name as their forum handle.
In my experience, some authenticators, especially in the premium forums, can be a bit snarky and sometimes patronizing. If they are frustrated because people haven't read the rules and make a crappy remark, I don't understand why they respond in kind.
I find it troubling how defensive an authenticator gets because someone has questioned their skills. It isn't personal, but too many people take it that way. I would question the skills of anyone who claims to be an expert without knowing their background.
Just as there are rules for authentication formats, there should be rules of conduct for the authenticators because accurate or not, they are often seen as official representatives of this site. And when no one checks them on their attitudes -- and other mods and members back them up -- it appears that the the forum has sanctioned the comments.
I realize the part in red is reading kind of jumbled, so I wanted to clarify---
It is my opinion that some people have been talking almost like they expect everyone else to behave according to their own expectations, and that just isn't going to happen - and it does NOT make anyone at fault.
For example - if someone states that they handle a certain situation a certain way, then jam that down other peoples' throats along the lines of "YOU SUCK IF YOU DON'T DO IT THIS WAY" - that just isn't cool. It's not just having a different opinion, it's sanctimonious crap.
It's a 'do as I say, not as I do" type of mentality, and I am NOT the only one who sees it.
Allow me to correct myself - I misread the original question.
Of course some of the authenticators have their own paid service, but they are not paid by PurseForum for their help in the AT thread on TPF.
Apologies!
I suggested that waaaaay back in this thread but it was shot down. Makes sense to me! This thread should be private for AT only.......hash it out, figure it out, then make a forum that works for you all.No matter what you do there will always be people who are not happy or want to state their opinion. If you are not an authenticator, you have no idea! That being said, I still don't want anyone to pay $$$$ for a fake. Maybe we need a thread for authenticators only so others who have an opinion but don't really know the drill can stop commenting and we can figure out a solution without all the drama.

Thanks for the apology but that's not what I said at all. Twisting someone's words or making 'inferences' is seldom helpful.True, because someone who is not an authenticator would have no good ideas when it comes to setting up rules and protocols. Someone who simply reads the threads or has experience on other sites would not have any valuable input. smdh
OK, I apologize for being snarky, but that struck me the wrong way.

I thought this thread was started to help out the AT's run their sub-forums more smoothly. I don't remember saying anywhere that those who aren't AT's have nothing substantial to add.
Apples and oranges......
I find the whole set-up for authentications very 'clunky' here which I why I pay for professional authentications elsewhere.
Please, please, please no offense meant but since other's are being honest here I thought I'd give my own 2 cents.
When you pay for an authentication you simply mail your photos to the service and it seems very seamless......that's not the case many times on here so for under $10 (usually but not always), for ME anyways it's totally worth the small fee to go another route. I've had issues using photo bucket or similar sites which I find frustrating.
In reading through this thread it's also obvious that the AT's pick and choose who they will help which is a bit off-putting IMO. Disagree with someone's post, no AT for you!
Another reason I go elsewhere.
In fact, the more I think about it the more I think that perhaps this should have been a hidden discussion between the authenticators and the forum admins.
None of the rest of us need (or should) know how unhappy and disgruntled many of the AT's are......or at least seem to be based on many of these comments.
Now I know many are just venting and trying to make things better, but until the format for AT's here is changed I can't see it getting better, can you?
Many AT complain about those who can't seem to "follow the rules" posted. You do know that there are at least 10 steps required? And on top of that if one is new to Tpf they have to have participated in X amount of discussions first.........it's downright daunting to a newbie.
Because many have been on here for so long I can see how all of that can be taken for granted...second nature kind of thing.
Not making excuses, just stating facts.
Anyhow, doesn't matter to me since I won't be requesting AT's on this forum but just a heads up from one person's perspective.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!![]()
I tend to be rather wordy when I am really tired..
and I have not slept yet, so, sorry, this is a bit long.
actually, there were 2 of these threads on the topic of who should be able to authenticate. One of these Authentication Threads was started by a
person who is not a Authenticator, a newer member, who was rightfully concerned about a newer member who was authenticating LV or Chanel.
Ok, so now I have to ask, since you did bring it up twice...
I'm just curious, why should this be hidden from the view of the
general members?
at least that is what I am getting from your comments, that you feel that
this is NOT a good topic for OPEN discussion? That this should
just be between the authenticators and the Mods?
IN my opinion, when ANYBODY new and old, can post and share their ideas and concerns, they feel MORE like a community, and more like they are being heard. Like they belong. This helps to grow a better community for EVERYBODY.
Also, the fact that this thread gave MANY authenticators and members
who frequent the AT threads a place to post their concerns, has been a HUGE
help. Some members can now see WHY some of the Authenticators took
"Vacations".... and also see some of the frustrations that authenticators
face on a day to day basis.
In my humble, yet VERY important opinion...There is NOTHING on this thread that should offend any of the members, except for of course, the fact that Authenticators were being treated in a disrespectful manner, that is offensive.
The Mistreatment of LONG TIME Members, Experts in authenticating bags and shoes, etc.. who spend their FREE time giving out FREE advice, to help buyers from being ripped off is always offensive.
Now that you have said that you didn't mean that NON At's wouldn't have helpful input, I am trying to figure out why you felt that this should be a thread for Authenticators only?
You did say:
This thread should be private for AT only.......hash it out, figure it out, then make a forum that works for you all.
Is it that you feel that if the authenticators are going to complain,
that they should keep it among themselves, as to not offend other members?
On a side note, over half of the comments on this thread are from Members who are not authenticators.
also, MANY great ideas came from Newer Members and Non-Authenticators.
When this thread was started, MANY of the Authenticators were on Vacation,
out of frustration. IN fact, I wrote to a few of them myself, and directed them to this thread. I can bet, that I am not alone in that, I bet other General Members also
brought this thread to some of the authenticators attention. Had it not be so public, that may not have happened.
also, it was many of the NON-Authenticators who came forward and
brought up how the authenticators were being treated.
Sometimes it helps to
have the General Public, also chine in, if they have seen people act in an ugly manner.
It is one thing to have many authenticators come forward with these types of complaints, BUT, when you have NEWER members who have also witnessed this behavior, come forward with the same complaints, it tend to add some weight to the issue, and reinforces what the Authenticators were saying.
anyway, these are my reasons as to why I am glad that this was an open topic.
BUT, again, I'm very curious, as to why you or anybody else would feel that this
would have been better to have it a Private Thread amongst the Authenticators only?![]()
