that's the same size as mine...and mine is the smaller version...i paid 3500+ tax from bergdorf's...the larger one is much larger then that one...the flap part is much larger as well...

I just got another email from them - Its definitely the large - they have a copy of the original invoice and the bag was purchased for $3950 (maybe the flap looks smaller because of the way it's stuffed or displayed)

I still think their asking price is way too high for a bag with noticeable wear (and they sent additional pics and there are noticeable scuffs and markings to the leather on the front and bottom of the bag). I mean, if I had $3500 to spend, what would $500 more be to get a brand new bag from the boutique (or even Neimans or Bergdorfs)? If I were going to spend $3500 on a handbag, it better be as close to perfect as possible! (guess that's why I'm never gonna spend $3500 on a handbag!:p)

Do you think this bag has staying power for years to come?
absolutely!
It's not anything "special" or particularly trendy -- it's pretty much a basic hobo shaped bag with an outer flap and over-sized chunky zippers. It's not overloaded with studs or tassels or anything that could really date the bag. In fact, I think its more or less a throw-back to bags from the 70s -- kinda "boho chic" in that it's oversized and soft & slouchy with a longer strap that can be worn cross-body.

I don't think it'll ever look dated or out of style -- I think the more important question is whether or not you might tire of the bag, or want to move on to the next "IT" bag as this one fades from popularity. If you like it because its a popular style now, then it may not have the staying power you're looking for, but if you like it because of its shape or size or the workmanship & details, then I say it'll last you a lifetime!

You're so right. Do you own this bag? If so, how do you like it and is it heavy? When I tried it on (with my stuff in it) it was not as heavy as I'd expected based on previous posts from others. I have loved this bag for awhile - but if I get it I need to KEEP it for a LONG while. :)

I think you've nailed why I love this bag so much. I have always loved 70s bags, but I hadn't made the connection between those and the flap over zip before.

Oh yeah! The big zippers scream 70s to me (in a good way) - like a timeless Diane Keaton character.

I saw whole booths devoted to the best of 70s design at an antique show in Paris a few years ago. It brought home how elegant some of the clothes and decorative arts were then. The elegance and innovation have gotten lost in the kitsch from the decade. The TF bag reminds me of the very best of the 70s, and I love your Diane Keaton character comparison.

I think iluvbags summed it up. The bag will age well. The question is just whether you can age along with it or whether you'll get bored and move on.

I am really jonesing for this bag, and it's only getting worse.

I just read an article that said the woman who wears a TF bag are women who are showing their social class and do not do their own grocery shopping nor take buses. If that's the case I will never be able to acquire one!! :lolots:

can you share the link to the article?
I'm not sure what my social class is, but I haven't ridden the bus in years and I only WISH I had someone to do my grocery shopping (I bet they don't clean their own toilets either, huh?:p) -- but don't be counting me out just yet!:graucho:

(I can still find someone to grocery shop for me -- any volunteers?:D LOL!)
