Tiffany polishing service - is it worth it?

THIS ^ is NOT TRUE of PLATINUM. Gold, yes, Platinum is displaced when scratched, not lost like with gold. Polishing gold takes a layer off, polishing platinum just moves the metal back to where it was.

Does polishing silver take a layer off of it as well? I polish my SS every time I use it because it tarnishes and I'd like it to shine

USUALLY no, but it depends how deep the scratches are.

With a cloth you won't be removing metal at all. It's when they use a polishing wheel that may.
