Tiffany I colour diamonds?

Hi Cupcake, between those choices I, personally, would go for the 1.46 I vs1 (even though it is 4k more than the 1.31 ivs1, the .15cts difference will be noticeable. I would also check and see if they have any I VS2s in that carat range, perhaps a 1.49 ct I VS2 stone as others have suggested, if you want the visual appearance of 1.5 without having to pay the "magical happy weight" premium. Also, a little secret tip: you can ask your SA to check the inventory of diamonds solitaire pendants, and if they have a stone that you like, you can have them re-set one of these for you into a solitaire ring setting (they did this for me and reset it into a ring free of charge). My awesome SA thought of this, and it gave us a wider selection of stones to choose between and allowed me to get the stone that most closely matched my personal parameters.

In response to your previous question about Tiffany VS2s, my VS2 is definitely eyeclean. It honestly looks just as gorgeous to me as my previous G VS1 stone (I think the main factor with both the solitaire stones I've had has been the excellent cut).

Yes, I will surely do that.

Well, of course, no one wears three solitaire rings all the time :D But the difference in price is really big... MAYBE it would be worth it to go for the 1.31 I colour.

Of course not, and that's why if your eyes cannot see the size difference, it's more economical to get the smaller carat stone and a clarity level that is eye clean.

Cupcake, You need to ask the SA for the diameters of these diamonds along with the other numbers, depth %, table %, crown <, etc. The cut matters.

Your SA should be able to go to the database to print you a certificate (not the official certificate that comes in the mail after 2-3 weeks of purchase) showing the details - it doesn't give you the inclusion plot map.

A 1.5 starts at $22,500. A few weeks ago, there was a I, VVS2, 1.40 carats for $17,000 prior to price increase. After the price increase, I'm sure the I, VS2, slightly under 1.5 would still be under $20K mark. That's still pretty good for that size range.

Yes, there's no doubt that I should do that.

Just based on the numbers: do you think the size difference is big enough to justify the extra $$?

Only you can decide that. I think you really should wait and see the stones AND their reports in person before you make that call. If your budget restricts your choice then you select stones based on that budget and pick a size and specs that fall into the budget. But if all of these are in your budget, pick the one that speaks to you and then pay the price that goes with that one. But if you want the biggest SIZE, the largest assuming it speaks to you the most outside of just size, the largest one is the choice.

Anecdotal: I passed up two much larger ideal cut stones that performed nicely both on paper and to my eyes because I didn't like their plots, and another slightly larger one that had a nicer plot because I didn't like it's performance to my eyes. On paper it was equally ideal. It just didn't do it for me like this one.

Thanks for all your help, ladies!

I will consider everything, look at the stones AND the reports and make my decision then.

Sadly, it will be a while before I can go to the store again!

When I was at Tiffany's to try the rings on, I tried 1.16 (F colour) and 1.53 carat (I colour) rings.

I could spot a little warmth in the I colour diamond, especially when I looked from the side.

I will, of course, go again and try on several other diamonds before making a decision.

However, I wonder which size would be perfect for me. When I tried on the 1.16 I felt it was a tad too small for me whereas the 1.53 felt too big!

Would it be better to choose something around 1.3 carat or to decide on a larger size because the "shrinking effect" may occur one day?

Shrinkage does happen lol

You're not going to look from the side a lot so keep that in mind. But if it was bothersome, go with an H, or a G. I would go with a 1.3 if you felt the 1.53 was uncomfortably large. And it sounds like the 1.3 range allows a G-H in your budget.

Do diamonds shrink by a lot? Would I feel comfortable with a larger diamond after a while? The thing is, I have not only small hands (ring size 5) but also quite SHORT ones. I felt the 1.53 was a bit out of proportion...

I'm not sure whether the colour bothers me, I really need to see the stones in different lighting. I only saw them in store lighting, and the store itself was kind of dark.

I agree with you I don't think I could pa $4000 more for a .15 difference but it depends on how deep the stone is. The smaller stone could look to be the same size if it is not a very deep cut.

This is just my opinion but I find at Tiffanys things always look their best in-store under their lighting so I'm not sure I would recommend an I color stone to you if you didn't love it in their store.

I will definitely check that out.

If there weren't much size difference between them, I'd gladly choose the cheaper one. With the leftover money I could buy a gorgeous garden diamond necklace!

I did like it - but when I looked from the side I saw some colour in it. When looking at it from the top, everything was perfectly fine.
