The one I mentioned is 14,600 I believe.
Is that combination that bad? Would it. It sparkle as much?

Sparkle will be more determined by cut/symmetry/polish and the actual angles than color or clarity (in the ranges you're considering). I think people are saying the combination is bad in a value sense, not a beauty sense. Most consumers are led more by color than clarity so if you're going to go with an I, you might as well save extra money by going down to a VS2 since your eye won't know the difference. Most eyes will notice the difference between F and I ALOT easier than the difference between VVS1 and VS2 so, real or not, an F VS2 will be much more mentally attractive than an I VSS1 to most. Just my humble opinion...

Ok now I understand. I have a lot of options that they found in searches. Of we want between a 1.0-1.3 would you guys go with lower carat for higher colour? Even from tiffanys?

She had found one that is a 1.04 G vs2, what do you guys think of that one? There is also a 1.01 g vs1, but I think I'd prefer the 1.04 if the difference is so minimal in a vs2-vs1

G VS2 is my perfect bang for the buck grade. Be sure to ask about Cut and Symmetry ratings as well as these are as (more?) important than the color/clarity in terms of shine and sparkle. The G VVS1 is probably a few grand more than the G VS2 and, again just in my opinion, probably not worth it. Try to get the Cut and Symmetry grades and then see them in person to know for sure. I also found it helpful when shopping in Tiffany for diamonds, to ask to step outside the store to see the stones in natural light (even if its just into the mall but outside of the actual jewelry store). I found the Tiffany lighting to actually make the stones appear more yellow/golden which was making it difficult to judge the differences in stone color. They'll usually only allow you out in the mall with one or two rings at a time and they'll bring a couple security guards with you as well (in case you try to run :graucho: I joked that I wouldn't get very far in my 4" stilettos...they didn't even crack a smile...) but they were very accommodating for me (they actually suggested the natural lighting to me, I didn't know they allowed it). Good luck on your search. Be sure to keep us updated! :balloon:

I had mentioned to my boyfriend that we should go look at other places or have it made. He refused. I'm lucky in that sense, he wants it to be from Tiffany's and wants to spoil me...

OP, I know some people love Tiffany's and that's great but you might want to consider that you could be better "spoiled" if you got a better ring without the brand name. There certainly might be a "wow" factor associated with Tiffany's for some (and I'm not knocking their products) but a diamond is still just a diamond and you're paying much more just to buy it through them. Is it worth it to visit some other jewelers to see what you could get for your price range without the mark-up? Just a thought :flowers:

I probably shouldn't ask this, but does it have to be Tiffany's?

:smile1:

Oh and this one caught my eye as well 1.16 G VVS1, but I'm not sure if it will work budget wise.

I am too from Toronto and got the Tiffany engagement and wedding rings from US.

I don't think you should set a min. 4C for yourself and tell the SA your budget. We asked for over a carat, H, VS2 and 3EX as min and for the SA to know your budget, she or he will be able to bring in at least 5 diamonds for you to view at once. The SA actaully KNEW and TOLD my fiance then and hubbie now that she knew which one I would pick. It wasn't the biggest one but the one sparkles at me the MOST.

You just have to see them IN REAL LIFE!

With Tiffany's I would go triple ex cut and then get the biggest carat with lower colour range.

That sounds great! Like what acrowcounted stated, most bang for your buck if the cut's triple excellent. If the 2 stones are triple ex, I'd go for the bigger one too!

Mine is ex,ex,ex and G VS1. Jewellers think it's an E/ F colour while I was wearing it to stores searching for a wedding ring. Cut is the most important for sparkle factor. I still get lots of "wow" on my ring even thou I seldom clean it and of course the occasional smirk "oh, tiffany... :hrmm: No comment but secretly judging" type reaction. Anyway mine came down to 2 choices. 1.01 F SI and 1.05 G VS1. Of course I went for the bigger one because when I put them side by side without knowing which is which, i kept going back to the 1.05 one because to me it sparkled more and was slightly bigger haha I couldn't tell the difference between F, G and H side by side.

G VS2 is my perfect bang for the buck grade. Be sure to ask about Cut and Symmetry ratings as well as these are as (more?) important than the color/clarity in terms of shine and sparkle. Haha funny with the heel comment. I got mine at our local store on the main street so I was able to bring it out of the shop and was actually surprised at how much more it sparkled outside than inside the store when I thought stores use the best lighting to bring out sparkle. :graucho:

Yes most important is to see it real life and compare them side by side. When your minimum standards are set and there's a few options, use your eyes to decide. Normally one will call out to your heart.

We have actually looked almost everywhere id say, and we don't think anything really compares. Even the styles. I love a lot of the tacori rings but in the end it costs just as much for lesser quality.
We almost went to spence diamonds but that would of been 15 for a 1.5 si1 I. And that doesn't seem worth it to me. Plus my boyfriend absolutely fell in love with the soleste and told me that's what he would pick for me and he then stood by patiently while I fell in love with it as well.

I emailed my SA asking for the cut and any other info she can give me, and she's also doing another search, so fingers crossed something comes up!
I will tell me boyfriend when he goes to take them into the natural lighting and I'll tell him not to joke around :p ( he's the kind of guy who would pretend to run... And probably get taken out!)
- I think because I won't actually see what he chooses until he buys it is what is making me so nervous. I'm so specific. I find that the soleste changes a lot when under a carat... Maybe thats just me!

Did you have a good experience? Do you have any info on boarder crossing? My boyfriend is wondering what to do and expect! :)

I agreed, VS2 are the best bet. You won't see any flaws with tiffany's VS2, even with a loop, it'll be very very hard to find them..... I think 1.04 G is a good ring, and years down the road, you can always upgrade with them. I don't think VVS1 is worth the price differences at tiffany. I started with 1.06 with them as well.
