Hi op, just curious what is ur current diamond?

Hi luciness! Sure, it's 0.65 H VVS2. So when I'm trying on these upgraded diamonds, I feel it is a HUGE jump in size! lol

Just saw your beautiful ring in your post, so pretty. Now if I could just find another with the dimensions you found in the size I'm looking for that would be perfect!! You give me inspiration that it does in fact exist. How long did it take you to find? It's been about a month for me now =( Enjoy your gorgeous new ring and happy wedding planning!

Thanks ^^

Took a while to find one, about a month

I gave him rough dimensions (55-58 table, 60% depth) and the SA went to search for it. I was surprised he only came up with 3 rings as I thought tiffany would have a HUGE selection...

I love love love the H color. Doesn't look yellow to me at all!

Good luck OP! Don't settle - u WILL find your dream ring

It is really frustrating to me that they select stones so deep. They really, for lack of a better word, screw the customer in this sense. You're paying for a specific carat weight, and the intended diameter for such a carat weight is lost in the depth.

Now I'm more confused! I received this option today - does this fall into the 60/60 ideal diamond range? I've come across this theory before, but no idea. Is there somewhere online where it lists ideal specs for this type of diamond? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!

It also scores a poorish HCA score of 3.3 - but perhaps HCA isn't designed to deal with a large table size of 60 and immediately discounts it?

1.37 H, VS1, triple ex
7.19 - 7.22 x 4.35 mm
TOTAL DEPTH PERCENTAGE 60.4%
TABLE SIZE PERCENTAGE 60%
CROWN HEIGHT PERCENTAGE 13.5%
CROWN ANGLE 33.7°
PAVILION DEPTH PERCENTAGE 43.7%
PAVILION ANGLE 41.2°
GIRDLE THICKNESS Medium
GIRDLE FINISH Faceted
CULET None
LOWER HALF LENGTH PERCENTAGE 80%
STAR LENGTH PERCENTAGE 50%

Thanks!!

The HCA is not really going to select a 60/60 as it's not really considered an ideal anymore and it's not favored. Tolkowsky liked those numbers, but modern ideal does not go that way. A 60/60 is not really one many will consider, and I, for one, immediately say no. It's a very different look, and one that educated consumers RARELY will select. You will get little to no fire from a 60/60 (aka rainbow sparkles). What you will get is white light return and it's not always guaranteed to be great white light return either. There are VERY VERY VERY few 60/60s cut with the appropriate angles to work and still get a nice stone.

As to this particular stone: the diameter is appropriate for the carat weight, which is good, considering most of the ones they've sent you so far are way too small face up.

Hello aaluv, I've been following this thread and I'm sorry you're having such a frustrating time. :( I guess what I'm not understanding is the age old debate here on TPF... Everyone says that they love Tiffany because they don't want to 1) take the chance of getting a subpar diamond, 2) their "wonderful customer service," and 3) the way it makes them feel to own a Tiffany ring.

Well... I can understand #3, since our feelings are different regarding "larger better cut stone" vs "good or maybe not so great Tiffany stone but at a premium." Different strokes, right? :)

But what I'm reading doesn't add up. Almost every stone your SA has come up with has not been great - although Tiffany presents them as nothing other than the best, since they "only offer the best.". Also, from what you and others have posted, their customer service isn't all that great. If Tiffany can't find what has been defined as an excellent cut stone (since you've even given them the parameters for the type stones you want), then what exactly is the point of paying a premium?

Please don't think I'm "getting onto you" or whatever - it just seems that you have educated yourself and are concerned about getting the best diamond you can. You KNOW what you want, why not just find it elsewhere and avoid all the hassle and frustration? I'm truly trying to understand what advantages Tiffany offers over anything else?

Sorry for such a long post, but I'm sad that you are going through this when it's unnecessary. Best of luck to you, and I hope someone finds you your dream stone! :)

Hi msop! No offence taken, thanks for the post.

For me personally, there are a few reasons why I'm sticking with Tiffany here:
1. The diamond is an upgrade for me. Although I did consider looking elsewhere and keeping my existing Tiffany diamond, the trade in policy is valuable and the amount I will have to pay over and above is less than what I would have to pay for a non Tiffany for the same size I'm looking for. It could be a different story if this was my first ring...
2. Although I'm willing to trade in my existing diamond, there is some sentimental value in sticking with the same classic Tiffany ring chosen by my husband way back when. At that time, I did not have any input into the ring and he chose it on his own (all he knew was that I wanted a simple round brilliant platinum setting). I want the same style he originally chose for me, just bigger =)

3. I think the classic Tiffany setting is really pretty. I've seen other simple 6 prong classic settings which show the culet/full diamond more etc but something about the Tiffany classic setting "sings to me". I love it.

Those are my reasons off the top of my head. I wouldn't choose a ring based on service per se, but my experience has been great. The inventory is lacking in what I'm looking for, but the SA's have been helpful.

For now I've decided I want certain angles, percentages, depths etc and will wait for the right stone. If I'm going to pay Tiffany prices I may as well get what I want (or atleast close!)...although at this rate it may take a year or perhaps never happen? =(

Thanks for the good luck, I hope I find it too!!

Hang in there, aaluv! Your wait may be longer than you'd like, but getting exactly what you want will be SO WORTH IT! :)

I keep hoping that every new post you make is going to be THAT stone. I hope the 1.39 is a winner in person and worth all this wait though. This LUDICROUS wait.
