Thoughts on Saint Laurent YSL Envelope Bag?

It looks like the colour 'Latte'. It is sold out on the YSL website and is so, so beautiful!
Please help me to decide! Stores have still be closed in Chicago so I purchased both of these bags with the intent to return one. I’m having the hardest time deciding! I love the look of the black on black envelope bag, but I’m worried that the this bag won’t wear as well as it’s more ridged and I’ve heard of issues with the hardware chipping. On the college bag I love the inside pocket divider and zipper and I think the edges will wear better with the softer leather. Please let me know if you own either bag or why you chose one over the other! Thank you for your help!
I have both the envelope bag and college bag in medium. I think you can't go wrong with either choice as they are both iconic classic choices. It will definitely be up to you which one you like aesthetically and which one suits your lifestyle.
I think the envelope bag can be used for any occasion, casual or dressed up. The YSL grained leather is extremely durable and scratch resistant. The bag can be worn long strap, crossbody on doubled up as a shoulder bag. It also feels nice to sometimes hold the bag under the arm like a clutch. It will hold it's shape very well over the long run. The black hardware makes the elegant bag more edgy and stylish. However i have heard that black hardware may chip, but black can always be repainted or coated through bag repair stores or through YSL if that does happen.
The College bag is a best seller. It has a classic chevron quilting and the bag is 'soft structured' so it feels a lot cooler. The College is more casual. It can be used for day and night, but maybe not for more formal occasions. I have heard that some of the college bags have had leather peeling issues. Some people have also said that the chain on the medium College bag is too long for their height.
The difference i would consider is whether you prefer a bag with a top handle or whether you prefer a bag that has a chain strap that can be worn long as well as doubled up to be worn as a shoulder bag.
Which one are you leaning towards when you try them on?
Both quite different. The puffer is very soft and the envelope is hard and structured. The puffer fits quite a bit more inside as the envelope hasn't much depth to it. I find that sides of the envelope bag really eats into the available space inside.
Having said that I love both bags aesthetically but would opt for the puffer myself due to capacity and it’s casual vibe.

I really LOVE the look of the envelope bag and the way that you can carry on shoulder or crossbody. I’m leaning more towards the college bag because I am looking for more of an everyday black bag and I really like the organization the interior pockets provide. I don’t like using my Kate bag because I feel like I have to take everything out to find my lip gloss and I envision the envelope being the same way, but it’s just visually my favorite of the two. I’m wondering if I should return both and look for the college with black on black or just try to find a way to organize the envelope.

Hi! Is there any difference between the dusty gray and taupe? Found the taupe version of the Envelope in a store, which looks like the dusty grey of another model online.
Saint Laurent medium with silver hardware
I bought a “sand” med envelope bag that looks dark grey but when I put it right beside my Lv taupe glacé sometimes I see that they are very close. Here are some pics for ref, the mini camera and mini Cassandra are “granite”. Hth

Hi everyone, I love the envelope bag and sincerely think about it for my first designer purchase. But I'm confused between Medium and Large. I love Medium size, but I do not really like tri-quilted (too trendy, I'm looking for a timeless/classic bag). In France (from where I am), Large is available in Chevron, but I'm afraid it'd be too large for me. Not really a petite girl but ... Perfection would be the Medium with Chevron, but it seems to be very difficult to find. I've seen it in Fashionphile but there is not shipping to France

Has anyone have mod shots of Large and Medium sizes in order to compare ?I don’t have any mod shots at the moment, but I personally got the medium tri quilt in latte and exchanged it for the large size tri quilt in dark beige because the medium felt too small. I ordered it online while stores were closed and when it arrived I felt like it didn’t fit the aesthetic I was going for. It was too close in size to my Kate medium, and I wanted something more for day to night. The large is great to me, as I’m a tall girl! I liken it to my Chanel Jumbo, but a flat, lighter version. My only issue now is I’d prefer the full chevron, but my SA didn’t have it at the time. Still trying to figure that out! Make your decision depending on what you’d use the bag for. Oh my gosh! My husband bought this dream bag for me this week. I can’t believe I have one. It’s my favourite and literally the most beautiful bag I have ever seen. It is so lovely! I took it out for a spin today and it was so easy to use and I didn’t feel as though I had to baby it.
