The WoC - Wallet on Chain thread

Hi! I have a WoC from 2013 that I got brand new from chanel. Red Lambskin. I used and abused it. Wore it clubbing pre-kids, wore it to weddings and I have spilled drinks on it, wore it when I was pregnant and then when my kids were infants. While I carried them, it was nice to wear the woc because it laid flat. My boys did kick it often. It was long enough to wear over my pregnant bump too. I don't wear it as much as I've been wearing other brands other than chanel but I still bring it on vacations as a clutch/wallet in a tote so I have the option of a second bag. I've been more into neutral colors as well lately.

From saying all that, lambskin isn't as delicate as people think. It still looks amazing. I'll post pictures. The strap is a bit darker probably from dirt and clothes? Idk. It doesn't bother me though. I haven't done any spa or cleaning to it. I never put any spray or protector on my bags either.

I'd steer clear from patent. Once you get any imprints on it like ink from a book or magazine or color transfer from your clothes, you can not take it out. I have one long wallet that is patent and I rarely use it for that reason.

By " smooth calfskin" , there was a "smooth iridescent calfskin" in 2013-2015 that wore horribly. It was more like suede so it attracted alot of color transfer and rubbed alot so I'd be careful of that.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

That helps a Great deal ♥️ thank you so so much for that ♥️ many of the seasonal designs come in Lambskin so I really contemplate…

One observation to note is that I've noticed the larger the bag in lambskin, the more delicate. It could be just more surface area but idk. My lambskin m/l classic flap has more worn edges despite taking care of it and my lambskin mini rectangular flap has some worn edges as well. I've heard some of the seasonal bags are a bit more delicate from a lambskin standpoint as well.

I have two WOCs (along with a couple other chanel bags), but the one I wear the most out of my whole Chanel collection is the WOC in black lambskin from 2018 (I think) it is the Mademoiselle version. TBH I do not baby bags and I am terrible about keeping them nice due to my clumsy nature - I agree with the comment that the lambskin is not as delicate as people claim it is. The only issue I have now is if I don't carry much in it, the bottom sags a bit.. probably from my poor storage of it or overstuffing it quite a few times. But tbh, it's not that noticeable.

Hello everyone,
I‘d love to hear your experiences with WoC. I‘ve been looking at various pre-loved versions. Lambskin, Patent, Smooth Calfskin and of course caviar. As you may Imagine, the secondary market for caviar is quite scarce and the prices high. So I wanted to weigh in my options with leathers.
What is practical (I do baby my bags, I already have quite a few Chanel but no WoC), what do you wear the most and why?

About me: I love WoCs, have a Dior, YSL, Gucci and a CTG from H. So I know I would use it. Would love black, dark grey or red.

TIA to everyone who takes the time to Feedback, Highly appreciated! ♥️

I have 2 WOCs - a calfskin and caviar. Highly recommend the caviar. It still looks brand new. I would stay clear of calfskin. My calfskin is from Dec 2017 and it's in terrible shape due to how soft the leather is and the nature of the bag construction. This is a bag I use for some vacations - maybe a wedding. It's not an every day bag. Here's some photos. I recently took it to Chanel and they said there was no repair options for it, which is kind of disappointing given this is a design flaw, not wear and tear. My caviar one is just as old and is in perfect condition.

I remember 2017 was the year the calfskin had problems with peeling leather. :(

ugh, I was new to Chanel back then and knew nothing about the products but really wanted a tan/neutral WOC. This bag has def turned me off from calfskin!
😭 I understand. That is a turn off. I bought my first chanel jumbo caviar classic flap in 2012 and didn't know anything about the leathers. 2012 there was a batch of caviar that was dry and flat quilts. So my first jumbo has alot of flat quilts on the back. Makes me sad when I look at it because you cant fix it. Wish I knew about it so I could exchange it back then.

Calfskin in other years haven't peeled except during that year. I haven't really followed up with all the leather issues in 2020.

Thanks for this insight! :)

I hear a lot on this thread that many of you use the Chanel WOC for vacation in hotels. Please share which countries you have taken your WOC to and did it prove to be a versatile bag that I hear it is?

So far, I’ve taken it on a Mediterranean cruise (Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Malta), plus England, Austria, and Germany. I used it a ton. Especially around the ship and in the hotels, and for shopping, concerts, excursions, and dinners out when I didn’t need to bring a lot. It elevated every outfit and never got in the way.
I’ve also taken it to conferences in Las Vegas.
There were certain places where I needed a larger bag, or just didn’t want a logo drawing attention to myself. But it was appropriate for about 80 percent of my trips! I won’t travel without it.

I've taken mine literally anytime I leave for a trip.. I don't even know if I can recall all the places.. think all over Europe, Middle East, all over the U.S., Japan, Caribbean, some South American countries.. you can use them anywhere and they fit so easily into a carry on bag on the plane.

I agree with the previous comment about the logo being subtle and it easily being covered up if you flip it over if you're somewhere where safety could be an issue. For me, the woc is the most perfect little bag.. you can wear it during the day walking around, dinner, a night club if you're into that.. really anywhere and it's small enough to not become annoying to carry.
