Thank Silver Mom! I love Oahu, but it's been so long since I've been there! DH and I are hoping to bring DS to the water park there when he's older.

Here are today's shots.... this is Wahikuli Beach Park and the county page cracks me up because the current picture is towards the Lahaina side of the park and not of the beach part, which is sort of centered of the whole area. The other direction is a much prettier picture.

Right now there is more sand distributed on the beach due to the way the currents run. Here's the pic going toward Kaanapali. You can see the hotels and Molokai Island. When I was still running faithfully, I would run on the sidewalk which runs all the way out to the next beach park over, and then you can run on the beach walk at Kaanapali. I'd run past this park into Kaanapali 3x a week for a 4 mile round trip. Gorgeous in at dawn!

Here is Courage. I decided to push my luck and bring Smoke along, too. The Kaanapali side of this beach & waters have sooo many green sea turtles popping their heads out of the water all the time. Sometimes you can see them along the shore line, they can get surprisingly big. FYI, it is against the law to bother sea turtles. You should not try to grab them, touch them or like some stupid people..ride them. Leave the turtles alone.

Absolutely gorgeous photos JKP! Courage fits right into the scenery! Makes me miss Hawaii. I wish I could visit again. Might be a while though with the kids and all.

I saw a HUUUUGE turtle when I was snorkeling in Hawaii last time I was there. He was so chill. Thankfully no one bothered him. I couldn't believe it when one of the shop owners told me people try to ride them... what is wrong with people? :nono:

I'm going to feel very inadequate when it's my turn with Courage... @_@
Maybe I can convince DH that the kiddos need to go on more field trips. :D

JKP!!! Wow! Wow! Wow! Amazing pictures! A story beautifully told!!! Thank you for sharing!!! And can I ask you, it's okay to swim in the ocean with jade? The lady I bought my bangle off said yes but was still worried. Then I saw your pictures with the bangle in the water at the beach and in the sand so it's okay? And sun protection lotions etc? Thanks in advance. :smile1:

Thanks for the awesome feedback ladies!

Here are some more photos. These ones are taken at the Lahaina Jodo Mission. One of DH's closest friends' dad is the minister there and we had our reception on the property. We also love the Obon festivals held here and the lantern ceremony is lovely.

Here's Courage, with PL and Baby Princess.

The Great Buddha

From the site:

The 12-feet tall copper and bronze statue of Amida Buddha is the largest of its kind outside Japan. It was cast in Kyoto, Japan, from 1967 to 1968, and weighs approximately three and a half tons. The Great Buddha was completed in June 1968, as a commemorative project for the Centennial Celebration of the first Japanese immigrants to arrive in Hawaii.

Hi Kingfisher! Glad you like the pictures. I have never had a problem with my jade in the ocean. My worry about wearing it to the beach is being afraid of falling on or tripping over a lava rock or coral and cracking or breaking the bangle. Or even getting tumbled in the water and maybe hitting the sand too hard. For this reason, I usually wear my least expensive bangles to the beach or pool.

I bring my bangles into the shower with me after and the soap and water take care of any lotions left over.

Thanks for the reply JKP!!! Phew, feel better now. Don't go swimming often and my bangle is a very snug fit so idealy want to take it off as least as possible. lol I'll just have to try and be as careful as possible, no surfing 40 metre waves while standing on my head, blindfolded, LOL.:smile1:

JKP, would it be possible for you to keep the traveling bangle forever. I really love reading your adventures with it. You have a gift in writing a story and we all benefit because of it. Thank you for making this so enjoyable to read. So cool!

Hi ladies!

I'm thinking I shall keep Courage just a bit longer, considering how slow the post moves out of Hawaii this time of year. I have a 3 week vacation coming up over the holidays that should let me explore the whole island and get some really awesome photos, then I shall send her on. I apologize to the other ladies waiting for Courage that I'm being all hoggy with her!

In the meantime here are some photos of the beach fronting the Jodo Mission. It is a public access beach, so no bathrooms or showers... there are showers and bathrooms on the next street over at the boat launch site.

It isn't the best sand, but due to the reef, it is a very protected beach with very small waves, which makes it very nice for babies and small children. My mom would bring us here often (we lived within walking distance) and this is where I learned to swim.

You can see the Kaanapali hotels in the distance.

I thought this was a neat shot showing the translucency of the jade and with the sail boat.
