That's so interesting! Thanks for posting that information. I was wondering about that with my 25 b I got in Paris last Monday. I thought maybe it was because it is new. I love this bag and learning all about it!Sorry, I'm the worst at explaining things. My sa told me the canvas around the piping was made to protrude out to protect the piping . Hopefully this pic helps. The mono is my old speedy, the de is the nm, not the one with the zippered pocket.

On Monday I finally bought the Speedy B30 in DE, a bag I'd been wanting for a long time. It was MIF so I knew I had to jump on it right then and there.
Well when I got home I noticed the button on one chap was off center which bothered the hell out of me! I tried to get over it since it was such a beautiful bag (and MIF) but the zipper was incredibly wavy as well. And 2 days after wearing it, the leather strips on the sides were starting to wrinkle into huge bumps.
Not to mention the strap was so sharp, I felt like it was going to cut my shoulder!
I had to return the bag sadlyI'm not sure if a monogram version would be better in terms of strap comfort but it's always so rainy here in S Florida.
I am so disappointed in the quality, guys. I was so looking forward to this bag!
I love my mono Speedy b 30 so much I was considering getting it in DE but I'm worried about the strap comfort. I've seen other posts like yours and it's making me not want to buy the DE. I would use the strap often and I definitely don't want it digging into my shoulder. I hate the way my DE NF straps still dig in, too.
I think it depends on how much you carry in your bag. I read about how some people think the speedy b de strap is uncomfortable and I worried about that before getting my bag but I've been using it for a week now (shoulder and cross body) and think it's the most comfortable bag strap I own. I got a base shaper for my 25, and I'm never taking it out! What a difference! This is just a cheapie acrylic one from Amazon. They had nicer ones but I didn't want to add any additional weight to the bag.
