Welp, here it is: https://www.businessoffashion.com/news/retail/therealreal-layoffs/#:~:text=The RealReal will close its,York City and San Francisco.

Looks like the house is coming down. I love the SA at the San Francisco store. Hope they will find another place that treat them right.
This is not great news for sure.. Besides the retail stores closing I'd be very concerned about consigning
& making sure I can get back merchandise. TRR has been so chock full of issues with regard to not
only pricing but items lost, misplaced, etc..

There are many challenges now in the marketplace. I would be very concerned
about "consigning" expensive items as the market is inundated
There are sources one could consider for a buy out. TRR doesn't do a direct buyout
but other sources so & much to think about.
Your items are not touched by too many hands, it likely will not be damaged
lost, or stolen. Much to consider now with all that is going on, JMO

As much as I love some of the great deals I've found on TRR I can't see how they'll have any longevity. They pay too little to sellers and only claim an advantage over other consignment places because they accept more brands. But this works against them because they have so much inventory that they can't keep track of it, or describe it accurately, etc. A house of cards waiting to fall. And I'll admit, I'll keep shopping with them while they're around and if there's a good bargain -- I know to expect the unexpected at this point.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. There was an Hermes Kelly bag I really wanted that they listed but I haven’t been comfortable pulling the trigger. I posted about this in the Hermes forum 2 weeks ago but my post was deleted. I will buy items of lower value but given their news (which I have expected for a while now), I am not sure I would buy a high ticket item. Thoughts?

Just an FYI - TRR now appears to be tacking on an additional $5.00 "authentication fee" for its items in addition to the $12.95 shipping fee. This is kind of hilarious, given its questionable reputation as far as authentications....

Very disappointing for TRR to do this..but what does one expect.. $5.00 adds up, so just another
way to hit the buyer unless they charge it back to the consignor which other businesses do due..

I wonder if this is just for specific items or categories? I just bought a bracelet and a sweatshirt and wasn't charged that fee.

I just added a few liked items to my cart to see- a Vince sweater and a Jason wu bag, both separately had a $5fee. I don’t think those items warrant extra authentication
That is so weird. I bought a kenzo sweatshirt and unbranded fine jewelry without the fee last night. Don't see any reason why your items would have it but not the ones I chose.

I purchased a coat described in pristine condition last evening & there was no $5fee
This fee I feel will chase customers away.. 5 or 6 items in a cart with an additional fee
of $30 + shipping is not good.. most, items don't need to be authenticated TRR should
back down on this fee, JMO.. they are looking so desperate to raise money & that $5
adds up quickly

Does anyone have a good virtual/remote sales associate they can recommend? Ideally someone who knows jewelry. I have had several over the years, and they have always solicited me as a client (if you have one, you know what I mean). My previous sales associate was part of the recent layoffs, and a new sales associate texted me asking to be my new SA, but I don't think it is going to work out with her. She is not a go-getter in reserving upcoming items for me. Thank you very much!
