The quest for the perfect foundation

For my entire life I cannot ever find the right foundation.

I have light medium to dark-light skin and brown hair. I'm not sure if its olive or yellow base, but its warm.

Anyhow, when I use MAC, my skin breaks out into tiny lil bumps (every facialist I've had told me to stay from the stuff) and it looks powdery/cakey and turns a wierd muddy color after a while.

I've also tried, liquid foundations (e.g. various Estee Lauders) but all of them do no provide enough coverage.

Lately, I tried Chanels Double Perfect Powder and that seems to work well if I use it first then put MAC Studio Fix on top of that (and stops the wierd bumps from MAC). THat looked wonderful in summer. Now that its drier, my skin is back to looking dry/powdery.

Can anyone give me a suggestion on a foundation that is not matte, won't cause acne or bumps, and is a medium coverage.
OR,
a make up artist in SoCal I can go to. I'd pay a lot of money if someone could teach me how to put on make up right.

I've been using Smashbox BACKDROP for over a year now and love it. I have pretty sensitive and dry skin so I'm quite particular to what I wear. I finish it up with a stick concealer for specific problem areas.

I was on a search for a tint/light foundation this week too and tried out Chanel...the color turns out a bit too orangey. I ended up buying the DIOR Bronze tinted moisturizer with SPF 10 for day. I also bought the Diorskin creme-power for days I want more coverage.

I am a makeup artist in London, and I love using Laura Mercier and Armani on models, but hate wearing any foundation on myself! It makes my skin feel greasy, I get tiny spots, and it feels itchy. BUT when I tried SK-II's Airtouch foundation I thought WOW, I gotta get some of this! It is amazing, you really can't see it on the skin! I have alot of experience using airbrush as well, in fact I have done Airbrush masterclasses for MAC, but this is beyond airbrushing. It works by ionisation. It gives the foundation particles a postive charge which is drawn to the negative charge of moisturised skin. Not only does this mean it works better on moist skin (unlike airbrush which has to be applied to unmoisturised skin) it won't go on your eyebrows, hair or clothes, unless they are wet! You don't get scary sideburns, like from airbrushing on the face. The colour selection is not great, they have four colours porcelain, very pale olive, light olive and dark olive, colour names being OP-1, OP-3, BR-3, BP-6. If you are a light or mid tone of these colours you can do quick contouring and highlighting by using the lightest colour on the top of cheekbones and darker colour under cheekbones. the formulation is really pure, just skin conditioners, Pitera (SK-II's wonder skin food) and pigments. You can't see it on and you can't feel it on. It is like a miracle.
Do I use it on models now? Yes, but only if I know for sure I have enough colour refills for me!!

Im a Dior Skin Fluide junkie!

Its perfect. Its got medium to buildable coverage, looks natural, feels wonderful. Ive used it ever since it came out and even tough they have discontinued my colour (i stocked up though), im going to keep using it!

I use mac full coverage. I use my fiber-optic brush so it doesn't go on heavy. But lately I feel like a change. I had Mac face and body but it slides off sane with studio tech, And studio fix way too dry looking on my skin.

I want a good coverage but at the same time will last all day ,My skin quite oily, But at the same time it can be quite dry in areas .
Any ideas anyone ??

whats Bobbie browns make up like and Chanel ?

You should also try Armani. The Luminous silk foundation is beautiful, great yellow undertones.

After reading everyone's post, I was thinking about checking out the Armani Luminous Foundation. It seems like a perfect fit, since its oil free but not matte and "great yellow undertones"

hopefully they have a color that fits me, I'm basically a MAC C3 (when not tan) and C35 (when tan). Too bad Studio Fix is is too cakey/dry and gives me lil bumps, they have the greatest colors too

Yep, another vote here for Bare Minerals! I've been using for years, (ever since they came out.) I love it!! Get so many compliments how beautiful my skin looks.

I use Chanel, Pro Lumiere, I'm really a big fan. It's light, but you can layer it for fuller coverage. I feel like this is my grownup makeup, it makes my skin look lovely and even. On days I don't feel like foundation I've been using Clinique's powder foundation, which I like ok. Nothing to write home about ;)

I will not use anything except for a liquid foundation by L'oreal, called 'Ideal Balance'

I had tried for years to find a product that covered well (but not too well) didn't clog pores and stayed put all day.

Powders look caked-on, some liquid foundations can look too shiny, but this one, it's just perfect. Even if you've got dry skin it will make your skin look fab!:jammin:

Well, i personally have found the perfect foundation, but L'oreal have since discontinued it!

It can still be found on Ebay though.
