Clothes and emotionnal attachment...
So yesterday I let go of more clothes that are fine, but I just don´t wear them. Thinking about it, it´s easy in theory to just pick your favorites and discard the rest...in reality, when confronted to these items I have a mix of "but I could wear it more!" and emotional attachment. On the other hand I can have some items that people love on me and compliment but I attach it to bad memories...
I am still so in love with the late 90´s minimalist style, and couldn´t throw away my items from then...(eventhough I was 21, but I happen to still have the body) but I finally did as they should live in my mind and that´s. it.
SEcond thing...cost and quality.
I figured thats the best way, spend more and buy less! invest in your classics. Well, I tend to buy average shoe makers brands shoes. I like made in italy or France or Portugal best. Usually spend 150-200€, I expect them to last 4 seasons and I change because I m tired.
But, I bought a pair of Alexander Wang Kori booties 4 years ago. They are destroyed....I mean literally the heel started squeaking already 2 years ago, and the leather discoloring and the sole....came UNGLUED/ UNDONE!!!
For 500 euros I would expect BETTER!!! Right...I bought into the style, but should stick to real shoe makers. What´s your opinion on this? Big fashion designer brands making shoes? any of quality before I buy Prada??

Wang's is dreadful quality, I am surprised those boots lasted 4 years...
For really good quality, I think you are safer with specialized leather or shoe brands (Prada, Gucci, Loewe, Hermes, Tods...). Although you never know, I find Ferragamo shoes which used to be beautiful quality are bad now.
For fashion brands, I'd say Acne are pretty reliable (but I hate their Jansen boots loose their metallic age on second wear).

The only pair of ballerinas I can wear without pain are Ferragamo, but they started as shoemaker!
Tbh, for shoes I try to find good deals on designer items. I’m superlucky I live near Sergio Rossi factory, and their outlet there sells shoes at 50% of the retail price. This is where I usually go when I need a comfortable high heel.
Otherwise Ferragamo and JC are my favourite.
Timberland is my choice for boots, comfortable, warm and almost indestructible.

Ok thank you. I was looking at Bottega Veneta style wise (minimalist but edgy cool) but I’m scared the weather here will ruin them in no time...hence why Acne was created in Scandinavia and so popular here, my Acne boots have lasted me 7 years so far!
I remember that issue with the jensens, they removed the metallic bits and ended up placing them back I tot the design because that was kind of the signature style of that boot!
I love Prada but afraid their ballerinas are too delicate feminine for me.

I am also very minimal with shoes but I walk a lot and like to change them when they get worn. I like Clark’s, vagabond, superga for trainers and dr Martins. All are specialist shoe companies and their shoes are made for walking.

I used to own a pair of blue Doc Martens when I was a teenager. I have considered getting a new pair. They are classic imo.

My everyday boots are from Ecco (flats) and Acne Pistols (with heel). I can walk for hours in both.

I have been watching a bunch of Konmari and decluttering videos last night and this morning (focused mostly on wardrobes/closets) and was newly inspired and went through my closet again and reduced it by about 10 more pieces! Now I'm down to about 40 tops (including loungewear and athletic), less than 15 bottoms (including loungewear, jeans, athletic, skirt, etc.) and it still feels like too much!!! I'm about to start a new job with a provided uniform, so I really am thinking I could get by with like 20 tops and even less bottoms since five days out of the week I'm going to be wearing scrubs. Might go back later this weekend and further reduce.

I also ordered a vertical hanging organizer for my jeans and other bottoms (for some reason I am resistant to hanging them and don't like putting them up on a high shelf in my closet anymore), so will take pics after I get that set up. Cleaned out a few drawers in my dresser, as well!

Great progress! Impressive!

Here we go, BEFORE AND AFTER! New vertical organizer and wooden hangers! I love the hangers, they look fantastic and so much neater than the mishmash of plastic hangers I had. In the last pic to the right is my winter jacket and a few work out tops only. I'll eventually put the workout stuff in my dresser.

One good way to handle the emotion of donating quality nice clothes, that are just not “you” is to put them in a garbage bag, tie it up and put it in the car boot/trunk. After driving around with it in there a week or two, I usually feel detached enough to drive it to the donation bin and drop it off.
Having the benefit of “living without it” and seeing the space in yr closet etc helps.
