It is remarquable how hard it is to explain how to pronounce french in english terms, these two languages are so fundamentally different to the ear.

I would love to do a video for you guys where I say the names in french and then suggest an english version which sounds nice but not too french either ( could be a bit bizarr to suddenly change the accent totally)

Would you like a video? Im not a french guru but I speak french everyday so it would be kind of correct

Dumb question- what's the proper way to pronounce the word "Vuitton"? I've always said it one way and I was watching Oprah a couple days ago and she said it a way I've never heard before- like "veee-tone" ?? Is that right?

She was saying it because she was talking to a family that supposedly spoiled their kids and the 18 year old daughter had two LV bags. Oprah was like- Why do you have 2 vee-tones?!? Do you know how much a vee-tone is!?!?

And the girl was like- umm.. they are two different shapes (one was a papillon and the other a speedy 25). And Oprah was just huffed and rolled her eyes like she couldn't understand why the girl would have two. I wanted to say- shut up Oprah- you know you have tons of bags that cost a heck of a lot more than a LV.
Oprah has a job.

With all my respect idol is wrong

In french idylle is pronounced Ee- deell

E = like in see

French Y is pronounced like (east/eat/see)
French I can be pronounced in different ways but in this case like The english letter e

So the i and y in the word idylle is pronounced the same ( if not beeing picky) and remember that final e idyll(e) is not said out loud if nothing comes after. French words which stops with an e is silent

Thanks for that. I was just saying the easy way is Idol thats how i heard London Bond Street store SA say it before i was just pointing out the easy way you know! As it is the most simple way i dont think Louis vuitton Expect anyone to know exactly how to say theses names. Lol

So glad I speak French and don't have to worry about this. The best challenge is the men's wallet Modulable. There's a tongue-full!

Although, in the US, they don't walk around saying "Pareee" for the mothership city, so should we worry so much about saying "Day-mee-air?" (It is grating, however.)

You're right - lets stick with the proper (Fr) pronunciation, whenever possible.

You pronounce Ballade this way:

Ba like in "Back" and then llade just like a "lad"

You will notice that the 2 "a" are pronounced the same way.

Montorgueil is easy to pronounce for me (I'm French), but hard to explain.

But you may try this: go here in the French site of Linguistic Google tools where I typed Montorgueil and click at the sound icon.

http://translate.google.fr/translate_t?hl=&ie=UTF-8&text=a+lad&sl=en&tl=fr#en|fr|Montorgueil

You may also write Ballade or any other French LV name ...:welcome:

Thanks!! French is such a beautiful language..i tried teaching myself but was unsuccessful. :(

That's what I suggested but I forgot to mention that you had to click on the loudspeaker on the French side of the frame.

Now, it is funny to compare the French and English pronunciation...
