maybe khloe needs her own thread???

Oh i know that. And there's nothing wrong with that. He is after all her husband + it's not like she ever was an NBA fan before him so i don't blame her.

Some discussion on the Mavs forum I just think is interesting. I think fan insight is telling to read. Long but IMO worth the read. Just the last 2 pages of their Lamar thread. I bolded the Khloe mentions.

per Dallas-Mavs.com

Ouch.

Thank you.
You are a well paid, PROFESSIONAL athletes.
Play. Play well.
He doesn't need to give any of these freaking interviews, just focus on his game.
As long as he play basketball well, nothing else will matter. All the hoopla and criticism he gets will disappear if he just focuses.

To be fair, i do think alot of this stuff comes from being interviewed after the games in the locker room so it's almost unavoidable. If he refused to talk to the media it would also make him look bad. I just wish he'd think before he speaks.

I mean i admit this made me

“My name is Lamar, not Basketball Player,’’ Odom said. “It’s Lamar Odom. Lamar Joseph Odom.

But really what is the point of this? I know he was trying to speak in broader context with some of his statements but dude these people don't care, they are interested in why you currently suck at basketball not your life philosophy + how you're someone's child, so much more than a sportsman. This just makes you sound diva ish + like you're outraged that people are questioning you about you know the sport you play.

Then he says in another quote that basketball is his life.

He's not making sense.

Also in that article . .
Odom has struggled personally and professionally since being traded to Dallas in a December salary-dump deal, a transaction triggered by his request to leave the Lakers after they tried to include him in the Chris Paul trade vetoed by commissioner David Stern. Odom, who is averaging career lows in almost every category, answered questions about his benching with a broader perspective.

"Expect the unexpected as far as life's concerned," Odom said. "I've been through a lot. It's not too much I haven't seen. So I understand it. I'm a team guy. Whatever. He's the coach."

Like that to me is just not a good way to express you're feelings. He has said some other stuff if you read the first article all the way through that was really good, but he ruins it for me with stuff like the above.

And even though LO said he didn't request a trade, the articles don't seem to be backing off that statement.

ETA: if this basketball stuff is really annoying people, i don't mind a new thread. We can call it Emo Lamar's journey with the Maverick.

I know what you mean about him having to say something, but in my business we have a saying (I am in retail.) Sales is the cure all. For him, playing well would be a cure all. It would wipe away the doubts and the criticism. He has to play well because he is Lamar Odom and professional athlete. It will kill an argument or gossip about his personal life, about his reality tv role, about whether or not he wants to be with whichever team. I do not blame reality tv for any of his issues in his head. I blame his choice of being involved with reality tv on him, and it brings more people prying into his business. If he plays well can tell the world to STFU, have a seat, and mind their own business - oh erase the last part, he married a kardashian after a few weeks. :graucho:

What would we would without Lamar in this thread?
Other than going off on Twitter what else is she doing?:p

Rare, but i agree with everything you said.

Khloe's life seems to be twitter + Lamar so i'm assuming nothing else. She did go to a meeting w/ her sisters about their Sears Home Kollection!

I just know it can be annoying to have to scroll through pages of basketball discussion is why i mentioned it.

And keeping on that track (sorry!) , Derek Fisher joined the Thunder + hit 2 threes in OT to help win the game last night. He also released a statement about the trade.

"I am extremely honored to announce that I will join the Oklahoma City Thunder in pursuit of the 2011-2012 Championship. What these players, coaches and front office have created is special. My representatives and I had conversations and offers from several teams, however, this just feels right and this is a choice I am confident in.

I will earn my spot on this team and do whatever my teammates need me to do to get us to a championship. I will also lead to the best of my ability whether from the bench, in the locker room or on the court.

Thank you to my fans, friends and family that have reached out. While I am surprised by recent events, I look forward to contributing to the Thunder and continuing to play the game I love so much and have fought so hard to bring back.

To Kobe, Pau, Andrew, Matt, Steve, Devin, Darius, Josh, Drew, Troy, Metta, Luke, and Jason, and all my teammates in Los Angeles through the years, thank you for your friendship, for the camaraderie, for pushing me each and every day to achieve greatness and letting me lead you the best way I knew how. You each have a lifelong friend and supporter in me.

Los Angeles will always have a place in my heart, it will remain a home to my family and my businesses, but basketball will be played elsewhere and I look forward to seeing everyone on the court ... even if it is in a different uniform."

Now that is the you handle it.

But Dwain Price picks those quotes out of the flow of the conversation for the most dramatics. He did the same thing with Delonte West. You can read the same postgame remarks from the Dallas Morning News and others in context of the conversatioin and you get the correct vibe to me.

I think the ESPN article (excerpt below) had it more in the "flow" + it still sounded bad to me. I'll check the DMN, but some of these quotes seem bad to me in any context.

But Odom, who was laughing and joking with teammate Dominique Jones as they dressed after the loss, also downplayed the impact of his professional struggles several times. He said "life's good" and "I'm so much more than a sportsman."

Odom also used a tragic incident, the death of his infant son, Jayden, in 2006, to illustrate that he's been through harder times than being benched for a basketball game.

"I've buried a child," Odom said. "You know what I'm saying? I've buried a baby."

ETA: the article below leaves out alot of quotes, but if you're not posting it for that reason, sorry nevermind!

Strange night ends with Lamar Odom, Rick Carlisle explaining the situation

It was one of the strangest nights of the season Friday in San Antonio. The Mavericks played poorly. Then they played great for about eight minutes. Then they were terrible again.

Lamar Odom had the first DNP-CD that he could ever remember having. Coach Rick Carlisle explained that he wanted to look at a different rotation.

Then after the game, Carlisle said Odom definitely figures into the rotation going forward. But nobody's quite sure how, even Odom.

The bottom line was a 104-87 whipping by the Spurs.

The Mavericks missed their last nine shots of the third quarter and shot 7-for-28 in the final 16 minutes of the game.

Their rebounding was pitiful.

And afterward, all anybody wanted to discuss was Odom's benching. Or his night off. Or whatever you want to call it.

It should be mentioned that Odom handled the situation very well. He answered every question, albeit some of them in very esoteric fashion. He stood up to the situation.
"There's a first time for everything,'' said Odom, who could never remember being a healthy scratch at any level. "Expect the unexpected as far as life is concerned. I'm a team guy. He's the coach.''

These times are never comfortable for players or anybody else in the locker room. Odom said admitted that his confidence has been shaken some by what's happened as this season has gone along. The one-point, one-rebound, one-assist night he had against the Lakers Wednesday couldn't have helped.

"I have to stay focused and try to go ahead and do my job,'' he said. "That can happen. It's all about keeping ready. That happens (losing confidence). It happens with missed shots and when you don't play well. But I'm so much more than a sportsman. There isn't much I haven't seen in life.

"We still got games to play. From the looks of it, they're going to have an NBA playoffs. This team is looking like they're going to play for it all. Hopefully, my time will come.''
Carlisle, like Odom, also showed great diplomacy when asked about Odom. He explained the situation and, really, it's impossible to blame him for wanting to tweak the rotation because of the way Odom has been playing.

"I'm not big into sending messages,'' Carlisle said. "I did think it was something we needed to look at and going forward, everything is in play.

"We're in a position now where we've got to win games. And we've got to get ourselves into the playoffs. And into the playoffs healthy and whole. He's one of the guys who can help us do that.'
'
Carlisle said he talked with Odom about the situation on Thursday and Friday and explained his reasoning.

"There were a couple scenarios,'' he said. "If (Manu) Ginobili had come off the bench, Marion was going to come off the bench and match up with him. Marion's probably the defensive player of the year this year. He's been that great on guys individually. We wanted him on Ginobili. With Ginobili starting, it tweaked what the original plan was.
"The thing it shows is that Lamar's minutes are valuable to us. So we got to keep him in the fold. It gives us another rebounder. He's one of our best rebounders. There are a lot of reasons why he's been valuable for us.''

I think the ESPN article (excerpt below) had it more in the "flow" + it still sounded bad to me. I'll check the DMN, but some of these quotes seem bad to me in any context.

Not at all, they were asking if he was shock surprise. He simply was stating after all he's been through including burying his 6 month old child..nothing in life surprises him. He's seen it all.

The Mavs reporters said he answered alll questions calmly and with class.

I thought the other two article made that clear too. They said it was a response to if this is a low point, toughest thing you had to go through, etc. That particular quote didn't even rub me the wrong way. I get the context although i think he's being overdramatic.

It was more his I'm Lamar, more than basketball play, let me say my full name + let you now i am more than a sports player among others.

OT point, but it's weird how he kept referring to the Mavs as they instead of we like they are going to make playoffs, etc. It just shows IMO how disconnected he is from them.

But once again if you look at DMN and DFW he says we. Some of the sites seem to have changed it to they.

LO is wrong how he approached the trade but he is probably one of the most humble dudes around. Him saying he's more than a player means he's human, someones child, father, husband.

Him being in Dallas just doesn't work. Hopefully, he'll play out the last couple of months as he should and move on, but clearly he's not happy or motivated in Dallas. But he definately should act as a professional and play to the end.

I am sorry to say Dallas people, media and fans are the worse. In a night he didnt play, the mavs with all their key players got blown out by a short handed spurs and Dirk goes for 5-21 FG and 1 rebound, why is the story about Lamar Odom? They have made him the scapegoat for their bad season when they are 0-6 without him playing. Their team sucks and it has nothing to do with Lamar, it has to do with management not signing key players of their championship team and adding Lamar who doesnt fit into their system because there is no room for him.

Dwain Price picks those quotes out of the flow of the conversation for the most dramatics

It is not Dwain Price who writes these articles. They are written by Tim Macmahon who is obsess with Lamar. After last night loss to the spurs, he has already written two articles on Lamar when the man didnt even play.

Not only are the quotes out of flow, he also adds to them to make Lamar look bad. Here is an example:

"Expect the unexpected as far as life's concerned," Odom said. "I've been through a lot. It's not too much I haven't seen. So I understand it. I'm a team guy. Whatever. He's the coach."
this is from one of Macmahon articles about Lamar

Here is the same quotes from another writer Sefko:
"There's a first time for everything,'' said Odom, who could never remember being a healthy scratch at any level. "Expect the unexpected as far as life is concerned. I'm a team guy. He's the coach.''

Macmahon has been the one to make and continues to make Lamar the story of the mavs season

I thought the other two article made that clear too. They said it was a response to if this is a low point, toughest thing you had to go through, etc. That particular quote didn't even rub me the wrong way. I get the context although i think he's being overdramatic.

I would have love to actually hear him speak because from reading the Sefko article, it sounded that Lamar handled the benching situation with humility and professionalism which is something one would not get from the many articles written by Macmahon.

If he plays well can tell the world to STFU, have a seat, and mind their own business - oh erase the last part, he married a kardashian after a few weeks

Lamar is not going to be the Lakers Lamar in Dallas and I think he even wants to be and a lot of it has to do with him not being a good fit for the mavs and playing out of position. Yes, there are things he could have done to make this transition better like being in shape come training camp, not filming his stupid reality show during season and keeping his less than attractive wife in check. But, the reality of the situation is that the mavs are not a good team this year and it has nothing to do with Lamar. He is unable to find his groove because he is a bad fit, plays out of position and even when he is getting better at finding his niche with the team, one bad game will set the media off again and we are all back to square one.

The mavs will probably not make the play offs. They are due to play the scrapy Rockets back to back and then head east to face Orlando and Miami to come back home to the Clippers.

It would be in Lamar best interest if the mavs do not make the playoffs then his saga would not be a talk of post-regular season play when more people are involve. He likely will get a buyout because I dont see him being tradeable and if I were him I would sign a one year deal with a contender where his game would help them (like a chicago), play hard to get a better extension deal.
