Carlisle said that he talked to Lamar Odom yesterday and today about the possibility that the rotation would change.

Carlisle on what having Lamar out showed: "It shows that Lamar’s minutes are valuable to us, so we’ve got to keep him in the fold."

Bryan Gutierrez ‏ @BallinWithBryan
Carlisle on if Odom is the backup PF: "We’ll see. There are a lot of things that can be moving parts on a night-to-night basis."

Carlisle said the reason for odom's CD-DNP was he wanted a look at a different rotation with Marion at backup PF.

Earl K. Sneed ‏ @EKS_MavsNBA
Carlisle said the plan was for Marion to come off the bench to guard Manu, but since Manu started so did Marion.

Earl K. Sneed ‏ @EKS_MavsNBA
Carlisle said he explained that to Odom earlier today. Odom confirmed the conversation just as Carlisle described and was very classy in postgame.

After getting outrebounded, 54-34, Carlisle said it shows how valuable Odom's contribution is to the Mavs.

It's kind of sad Khlomar's show is on, and all we can find to talk about is BBall... I guess it's why she is always pushing the married sister stuff in our face, it's all she has going on.

^The whole season has been an embarassement for him, nothing new.

I beg to differ. The spurs outrebounded them 54-34. This is where Lamar could have helped. He grabbed 9 rebounds against the nuggets and he had been playing decent defense up until the LA game (which the mavs were losing from the get-go). His shots weren't falling but he was hustling in every other aspects, moving the ball, rebounding, blocking, he was a factor in their last 4 wins.

I agree. I hope tonight shiows him that the team does need him and he gets back to his old self.

We normally talk about the show on Monday after it airs on Sunday. I don't think an episode of any KUWTK has been worthy of a week and I'm a fan. Plus, no show until April 1st.

The Lakers are a better team especially after their recent transactions.

I am not saying Lamar has been a factor in the season as a whole but he was getting better and was a factor in their last 4 wins. The score sheet doesnt show everything but just his presence and able to move the ball helped the team. He could have been a factor tonight. The Lakers game was a set back but he was looking a little more like his old self prior to that game.

The mavs could use the lamar that average 15 pts, 9 rbs, 5 assists and plays good inside defense right now.

Oh i agree with the score sheet not being indicative of everything, but i don't see that either. He just gets the ball runs away from the basket most of the time + desperately looks for someone to pass to. It's not even helpful passing. I'm actually puzzled at why he refuses to just post up or shoot.

 at Carlisle's spin. I almost miss him. Almost.

Lamar def knew he wouldn't play before then. Uber Mavs fan Khloe all of a sudden had no "Go Mavs!", "Go team!" to tweet tonight.

I caught that too. :laugh::laugh::laugh:

But she'll tell you in a minute that she's a Lamar fan first and supports him and whatever team he plays for. So for that I do like her honesty.

But on the real, I don't blame Carlisle. You can't play a man that doesn't want to play. Lamar is a player that needs to feel needed. So, hopefully, he sees how his team does need him.

Oh i know that. And there's nothing wrong with that. He is after all her husband + it's not like she ever was an NBA fan before him so i don't blame her.

Some discussion on the Mavs forum I just think is interesting. I think fan insight is telling to read. Long but IMO worth the read. Just the last 2 pages of their Lamar thread. I bolded the Khloe mentions.

No one on the team seems to be holding him accountable yet. Too much babying and over the top support. Maybe that works in the end and I'm wrong, but I think Odom needs tough love...from Dirk. Being the team leader, he needs to have a talk with him one on one and tell him to be way more aggressive right now. He needs someone with credibility to let him have it.
What is Dirk going to say? Is it Dirk's job to motivate Odom? It was pretty obvious when Dirk was interviewed last night after the game that there isn't much anyone can do. He said the same thing we all have or thought which is just to play aggressive and not hesitate. Odom can only motivate himself at this point.

Yes, at some point as the leader and face of the franchise you should take it upon yourself to get onto your teamates that aren't carrying their weight. HE damn sure would with JET. Odom isn't even coming close to what is expected.

There are many things Dirk can say and this may have already happened. If Odom could motivate himself he would have done so by now. He is in a rut and needs someone to push his *** out of it without babying him like they have been. Seems like they are afraid to push too hard because they might lose him altogether, but he is lost. Something else has to be done because we need him to do a lot more.

honestly, maybe no one cares. Terry is a member of this team. Odom is just some mistake that will be corrected in a few months. I think he knows it, Dirk knows it, and we should all just accept it. Too bad they keep putting that mistake on the floor over and over expecting him to do something worthwhile. It looks like to me that he just wants to go back to LA and be a "Star". We should let him.

Here's the thing... I don't think Odom is someone that you can hold accountable for anything.. He doesn't care enough for someone getting on to him to have any sort of impact. I guess I just don't think there's any upside with wasting emotion and energy getting on to a guy like that at this point.
The coach already called out Odom publicly. If you can't respond to your coach, then why are you going to respond to a teammate? The writing is on the wall for him. He KNOWS he is playing awful. Every person in the known universe knows that. Dirk telling him to nut up just doesn't seem like it would change anything.

I don't think it is possible to suck more. I mentioned earlier that they perhaps were babying him continuously because maybe the fear losing him completely if they push too hard. But it has to be rock bottom now, people are booing him, his wife is talking about the fans etc.. Things are getting uglier than I ever thought it would. A leader needs to step up and whack a mole, whether it shatters him or not.

Lamar Odom is not a Maverick.

He may wear the uniform, he may be out on the court, he may take home a check, but this guy is not a Dallas Maverick.

At this point, the only person who can change Lamar Odom is Lamar Odom. There's nothing you can say to him that's going to make him self-accountable - this is definitely the kind of change that has to come from within... It's time to man-up or sit out, no more coddling a guy who is 32-years-old.

I've got the half season plan and the boos have been steadily taking over more and more each week. Some guy screamed out (and I am sure Lamar and wifey heard) "Put Khloe in" at the top of his lungs. They need to do something. It started right before he disappeared with about 30% boos. I would honestly say it is up to consistently 70% boos now and climbing. The Laker game was a new all time high. I would venture it was 90% booing, but I am not going to call that a trend just yet. We'll see if it stays there.

News flash Khloe: You want fans to stop booing your husband? Tell him to start playing or at least have the decency to actually say you have quit and free up the roster spot.

Stats don't lie, Khloe:

11-12: 7.0 PPG / 34.5% FG / 24.0% 3P / 58.7% FT / 4.4 RPG / 1.8 APG / 0.4 SPG / 0.4 BPG / 21.4 MPG
Career: 14.2 PPG / 46.5% FG / 31.7% 3P / 69.6% FT / 8.7 RPG / 3.9 APG / 0.9 SPG / 1.0 BPG / 34.9 MPG

The raw numbers could be indicative of a shortened season, lack of minutes or just a bad fit in our system, but the percentages can only mean that he doesn't give a sh!t... I mean, most of the league's stats are down this season, but nobody has had as steep a drop-off as Lamar Odom - even his FREE THROW percentage has dropped by over 10% from his career average... That's just plain lazy.

Um Carlisle is lying then. Either one of two things: either he is hurt and can't play or he plays. No in between with the caliber player that Lamar is.

He was benched. Whether the benching lasts remains to be seen.
Tough love begins.

Odom reaches new low with Mavericks

SAN ANTONIO — Lamar Odom said what happened to him Friday night against the San Antonio Spurs was not a low-point in his life.

“I buried a child,’’ Odom said. “I buried a baby.’’

Mavs coach Rick Carlisle chose not to play Odom at all against the Spurs. Odom said it was the first time in his 13-year NBA career that he can remember that he did not play in a game when he was healthy.

The benching of Odom comes on the heels of his dreadful performance Wednesday when he had just one point, one rebound and one assist against the Los Angeles Lakers. What this did to Odom’s confidence is anybody’s guess.

“My name is Lamar, not Basketball Player,’’ Odom said. “It’s Lamar Odom. Lamar Joseph Odom.’’

Asked, as a basketball player, if his confidence hit the rock bottom, Odom said:

“That happens, and that happens with missed shots and games you don’t play well. But I’m so much more into sports. I’m someone’s child.

“There isn’t too much I haven’t seen in life, so I’m prepared and ready and willing to get over anything. Anything that’s looks like it’s standing in my way.’’

Odom has been the backup power forward all season for the Mavs. But Carlisle wouldn’t commit to saying he’ll continue in that role.

“We’ll see,’’ Carlisle said. “There are a lot of things that can be moving parts on a night-to-night basis.

“I think each game is going to be different. This was very much a matchup-driven game.’’

Also

Odom admitted being bothered by the boos, which prompted his wife, reality show co-star Khloe Kardashian, to plead to Mavs fans via Twitter to exhibit "positive energy." Odom implied that being benched against the Spurs further damaged his fragile psyche.

"I mean, a situation like this, do you think it helps or hurts confidence?" he said.

But Odom, who was laughing and joking with teammate Dominique Jones as they dressed after the loss, also downplayed the impact of his professional struggles several times. He said "life's good" and "I'm so much more than a sportsman."

well its good that he's much more than a sportsman but that is what the dallas mavericks are paying you to be, he's also a reality show STAR:laugh::laugh: What hall of famer of any sport would open his mouth and say something like that. This is precisely why he'll always be a sixth man at best, the talent is there but he drive and dedication isnt.and yes he buried a baby and proceeded to mess around on its mother and let her grieve alone (maybe he simply didnt know how to be there for her) Anywho, I'm trying to have sympathy for him but at this point I'm over the whining. STFU and play, if you cant sit out. being coddled is not part of the job description. How does he expect other teams to want to sign him at a price he'll dictate when this is all over if he is steadily exhibiting how much baggage he has? it'd be one thing if he was producing the needed stats and they could overlook it, but he isnt. I dont think emo lamar realizes that he is potentially messing with his money at this point

Thank you.
You are a well paid, PROFESSIONAL athletes.
Play. Play well.
He doesn't need to give any of these freaking interviews, just focus on his game. As long as he play basketball well, nothing else will matter. All the hoopla and criticism he gets will disappear if he just focuses.
