I believe they have...Have they fixed the cracking issues since reported?
I believe the cracking issue has not been fixed. With most Lumi bags, this has been a big issue. Rather they retired this design despite the fact that it is also reported way too heavy (according to LV repair specialist). Mine also is cracking and it was purchased in 2012. I contacted one of the LV boutique nearby and they said to bring it in. Since this bag does not exist anywhere, I am probably going to be given store credit or an exchange.
Now, my question is, will they exchange for the amount I've paid in 2012 ($2500+tax)? or will they give me the current value which is close to $3000+tax?
I really think it is unfair to be given old value because these bag prices have increased like crazy in the past few years. When Lumi first came out in 2010-2011, it was around $2,000. And now it is close to $3,000 although discontinued.
So I would be fighting to get the current value because my bag has not been used for the past two years. I've only used it for about 8 months although it was purchased in 2012.
My exchange choice would be Empreinte Speedy 30 which is $3,050+tax.
Did anyone succeed in getting more expensive bag than what you've paid for your Lumi for this crack issues?
Lan207, thank you so much for the info and advice!Hi cici2007
Earlier this year, I took my 2012 Lumi in for assessment / repair due to cracking on the shoulder strap. I purchased my Lumi from the store I returned it to.
The repair centre (located actually at my store) took my bag for review and came back about 5 minutes later stating that they couldn't repair the bag so instead offered me a credit voucher.
What made the whole experience surprising was that I paid AUD$2700 in 2013 and the credit note offered was for AUD$3500.
That said, I have heard stories where customers have returned the Lumi but were only offered a credit note for the price they paid originally.
I do not think it was necessarily "fair" that they offered me a price above and beyond what I paid. I thought it was quite generous and certainly not what I was "owed/entitled".
From a retail perspective: It doesn't matter that you only used your bag for 8 months - that doesn't matter to them given that you took ownership of it in 2012.
What I would suggest is that if they offer you only the amount you originally paid, I would suggest that you ask them to re-consider so that you can do a "like for like" swap (aka the same sized bag, in the same line eg the Speedy 30 or the Bastille MM). This should allow you to replace your faulty bag for a similar item.
Good luck hon!

I do also think that LV offer current value of an old bag is a very generous offer. If the boutique offers credit note of the value i paid for, then I will definitely ask them to re-consider me to be able to exchange with similar bag like speedy 30 empreinte. If Lumineuse wasn't discontinued and new batch of defect-free Lumineuse is available, I absolutely want Lumineuse since this is my very first choice. But because Lumi is no longer available, I will ask for similar one as a replacement.
I really hope things work out smoothly.
Going in tomorrow to the boutique! (Rodeo boutique in Los Angeles CA)
Thanks again for the advice and I will post here what happens tomorrow!
Have a great weekend!
I have heard from others that once repaired, with the new glazing materials that they use, it should not have the same cracking issues. But in case you do, you can always take it back I believeDoes anyone have any experience with a repaired Lumi? I sent mine in for repairs because of very bad cracking on the handles. They agreed to repair it.
I wonder if anyone knows if the cracking starts up again even after it's been fixed.
Thanks.
One of the leathergoods manager said there were a lot of reviews about Lumi being too heavy, and although he didn't mention the cracking issues, I'm sure that would've been one of the reason as well. Also LV does not make a lot of batches for new designs and always change and swap designs with the new ones, so although Lumi was one of the most popular piece, they've discontinued it and replaced it with Bastille, per that manager I spoke to..Does anyone know why the Lumi has been discontinued?
