Whoops: Thank you... your reactions to seeing both rings was really detailed... Thanks for taking the time to write your thoughts... I think your reaction for the ribbon would be the same for a lot of people because it's not something you see everyday...

I think knowing myself and style... I could really see myself wearing both... I like to dress classic but like to mix it up a bit with more trendier looks sometimes... I could see myself wearing the classic tiffany setting no problem... I also think that the ribbon has a very pretty and elegant feel... You are right... YOU CAN"T GO WRONG WITH EITHER! Thanks goodness...

ame and Haute Mama... my Grandmother who passed away in December thought the same thing and actually said she didn't like the ribbon ring when I tried it on in front of her... She likes solitaires... which is actually a good reason to get one so she can be part of all this... I think though that the ribbon ring is more design and concept... I don't know.. but I do feel that it makes a diamond look larger, which some people may not want... I don't think I mind...

haha it's okay! What else do you expect me to do... actually work at work? that's just crazy.

I really think you will love either so if you really can't decide flip a coin! both would be beautiful....

or better yet. get one now and down the line get the other for an anni gift! haha

My vote is for the ribbon, but only you know what is right for you. When I got engaged, Tiffany only offered the classic six prong or Lucinda styles. Now there are so many more choices.

I have the Tiffany 6 prong classic solitaire. For me, its way too simple- we've spent $$ trying to "dress it up with bands" (I have 4, in different styles) and nothing seems to do for me what an upgraded setting would do.

I also don't like how widely replicated the classic setting is. You can get an almost exact replica of it for much less. For me, if I had to do it over again, I would purchase from Tiffany but one of their more elaborate and less widely copied settings.

I do plan to upgrade the setting (maybe Schlumberger?) in the coming years.

Good luck with your decision!

Thanks nld in nyc... It's nice to hear a first hand account... I can't imagine at this moment in my life taking my engagement ring and changing it... I think I'd be too attached... I know lots of tpfers have reset their rings or upsized... I'm too sentimental I think to do this... Maybe 20 yrs of marriage will change my vies. keke :p You'v e made some very valid points I will consider.

Get the classic. Its beautiful and stands on its own. Its also not trendy (hence "classic"). At first I was convinced that I wanted the Lucida but then saw the solitaire in real life and never looked back. I just love my solitaire and get compliments all of the time.

acrowcounted... May I ask how long you have had your solitaire for and if you have any pics wearing it?

Whoops: lol~~ flip a coin... My mom suggested this yesterday...
Get one now and one later... My mom also suggested this! She said I should get the classic tiffany now since it is simple and engagement ring like and I could get the dressier one later... It's funny how much women think alike!

But I did tell my bf... half-jokingly to see what he would say about getting the ribbon later.... MUCH LATER.. I had to add because there was SILENCE... He said no.... hehe

Okay... you twisted my arm.

First is my original Tiffany Classic Six Prong Solitaire Engagement Ring (1.33ct H VS1) Got this in Spring 2007, married Sept 2008. Sorry about the blurry cell phone picture but its all I could find on this computer.

Second is my upgraded Tiffany Classic Six Prong Solitaire Ring (2.44ct E VS1) that I just love love LOVE! We upgraded last December (2010) I always got tons of compliments on both rings.

Good luck deciding!

Wowza~~~ What an upgrade! Not just in size but in colour! I'm glad I asked about the ring... because the specs on your first e-ring is t exact to the one I am considering... They're both stunning~ Thank you so much for doing this!

I must say, some days I think the H was whiter than my new E. Side by side you could definitely see the difference, especially as the stones got bigger, but on its own, my H was gorgeous. Don't get me wrong, I adore my upgrade but somedays I somewhat regret being a color snob and not getting a 3ct G-H (or similar) instead. At the time, 2.44 seemed ridiculously huge on my finger...but now shrinkage has set in... :p

I like the classic better. An ER is forever (please God) and I think ribbon might not look right in 20 or 30 years.

Yes~ Please God~~~ I was also trying to picture my hand all wrinkled swollen and old... I don't know if either would look good then... The solitaire to me looks like a youthful setting I think because we immediately see it as an e-ring and most of us get engaged at a younger age... the ribbon (or the idea behind it) is sweet I think... but then I think beccause it is more elaborate maybe it would look okay when I'm older too.... ayai yai~~~

What an upgrade in 2 years!!!

Haha I have this same thought process. There was a 1.5 h vs2 when I got my stone and I still wonder what if I went that route...But then DF is a color snob. I wanted G with max size and he wanted minimum G and higher if within budget. And I have my days where I think it's small and others where it's too big...

But then what if you didnt upgrade color and then the yellow showed.... You might be thinking you should have gone with the E. Haha. We can't win!

When my DF and I were looking at e-rings, we had the same dilemma as you...deciding between two rings. :confused1: What was funny was that I didn't end up getting either one of them. However, when I saw my e-ring, I knew that was the one and that I couldn't imagine myself wearing anything else but that ring. Good luck and I hope you find the ONE that sings to you.
