Classic, you can never go wrong with it; and 10 years later, that will still be a classic design that you will never grow tired of. I remember reading one of the tpfer's thread saying she picked a ering with shaped side stones from cartier 10 years ago but now she doesn't love it any more... Anyway, the classic design is the safest way to go especially if you love it.

This is true.... I was thinking that I could potentially get a little tired of the other ring... even though I feel it is so beautiful now...
The classic is safe...

Whoops~~ Your ring again is so beautiful~~~
I thought of that... about me liking the classic because of carat size... but it is the slightest difference and more of a mind thing... I don't really notice it... The ribbon setting makes a 1 carat ring look way bigger than it actually is... My bf seems to be leaning toward the ribbon setting... but he wants me to be happy and has been wanting me to choose between the two even though I suggested he could surprise me.... I will look for the ribbon ring with band~~ thanks~

You would think the classic choice is a no brainer but take it from a person who selected a "classic" ring, many regrets. I can't wait until you make your decision and hopefully post your pick! :smile1:

Not the "S" word! Safe...

buy it because you love it and can't live without it not cause it's safe! BIt because it makes your heart jump to see it! Also oppositely, people get bored of solitaires and reset all the time. When you see other people with a classic solitaire will u wish your was a little more ornate? Would u want to spice yours up?

So don't worry about it and get what you love.

I totally agree!

ame: ~~ Kke you are leaning toward one after all... :graucho:
I know exactly what you mean... I tried on the ribbon ring once with a wedding band (a thin one) and the SA said I might have to get one custom made if I want them to go together ... otherwise, the wedding band wouldn't match up too well because the ribbon setting juts out from the band... I do like the idea of being able to play around with different bands later on...

I tried on the shared setting wedding band with tiny diamonds which looked like they were just dropped onto my finger delicately because the setting doesn't show much... It fit well with the diamond engagement ring...

How do you feel about the Classic Tiffany Setting being so similar to other styles available in other stores?
Doesn't bother me. They do that setting best, but I've seen nice replicas. The real deal is the real deal for a reason. And the option to do all sorts of band styles with it without needing custom bands is a positive, IMO. I like the Ribbon one, but again, custom band for perfect match, and you do kind of get "locked" into a style. Safe isn't a good word but it's true. You might tire of the Ribbon later, and while it's pretty, it's not "classic" like the original Tiffany setting.

But if you're not set on the "6 prong Tiffany classic" style coming from Tiffany you can get a similar setting to the "original" and a larger and possibly even better quality diamond elsewhere.

I still think you should let him pick if you truly don't prefer one to the other.

ame: I just asked my bf if he would just pick one and surprise me but it doesn't seem like he wants to. He wants me to choose. I am not sure now that I've been at Tiffany's and tried the rings that I would be okay with going to another jeweler who could give me a replica and possibly a better and bigger diamond... I know the specs I gave are not for an exceptional diamond... but I think I'd be comfortable and very grateful for it.

Candice 0985: Thanks for your vote!

Drop Bag Gorgeous: I can't wait for me to make a decision too~! lol

whoops: I know I said "safe" but I guess I didn't mean it in a negative way... although it is "safe" I think it is stunnning~~~ This is soooo difficult~~~ and I'm sorry to everyone for being so annoying~~~

I really do appreciate your help everyone... Thank you! :girlsigh::flowers:

I found these pics from the e-ring thread... I hope it's okay to use them.
Thank you Mrs Baker to Be and I'm not sure of the other lovely tpfer...

These are the two rings... to help get a better idea.

No no! Not annoying at all! Trust me. We all go through these dilemmas and sadly my debating didn't stop til recently.... Too many options confuse me so I understand where you are coming from.

Both sets are beautiful! But what effect are you going for?

These would be my reactions seeing both those sets:

Classic - how clean and simple and elegant. Very traditional. Maybe a few seconds looking... It has a nice understated prescence that is lovely and timeless. It's something that would grab my attention but not so much retain it as long as something more intricate

Ribbon - that's so different. How does it stay up like that. Who makes this. I've never seen anything like it.... It has a much larger "look at this!" calling over a plain solitaire.

Depends on what you are comfortable with. If you want a little more understated. I would go solitaire. The ribbon is more eye catching and I'm not sure if that is a desired effect for you or not? Some people don't want the attention.

Also, if how much does the name Tiffany mean to you? If it means a lot then the ribbon will state it more clearly. It's a Tiffany signature piece that as many have said is often duplicated but never to the same quality... To me, that is worth something!

But tough tough choice! Both such beautiful rings!
I think of the one you posted of the ribbon, it's less than a carat too! And ms baker has a 1.25? I remember admiring both pictures when I was shopping.... Really can't go wrong!

See, I might be in the minority but when I see the ribbon ring from afar it does look big. Up close it doesn't. The setting makes it look like you're trying to make a smaller stone look bigger.

My vote is for the ribbon, but only you know what is right for you. When I got engaged, Tiffany only offered the classic six prong or Lucinda styles. Now there are so many more choices.

I have the Tiffany 6 prong classic solitaire. For me, its way too simple- we've spent $$ trying to "dress it up with bands" (I have 4, in different styles) and nothing seems to do for me what an upgraded setting would do.

I also don't like how widely replicated the classic setting is. You can get an almost exact replica of it for much less. For me, if I had to do it over again, I would purchase from Tiffany but one of their more elaborate and less widely copied settings.

I do plan to upgrade the setting (maybe Schlumberger?) in the coming years.

Good luck with your decision!

Get the classic. Its beautiful and stands on its own. Its also not trendy (hence "classic"). At first I was convinced that I wanted the Lucida but then saw the solitaire in real life and never looked back. I just love my solitaire and get compliments all of the time.

I prefer the classic. The ribbon is just too much... stuff, IMO. The classic looks cleaner, prettier, will stand the test of time, and I actually think that it makes a high quality diamond look bigger. The ribbon looks like it is trying to enhance the center stone (which is the intent, of course, of any halo or adornment), but I just don't think a stone like what you are considering needs any of that.
