The story behind
Based on the Fouets et Badines en Patch scarf design.
Virginie Jamin often draws inspiration from the collection of Émile Hermès. A master of layout and composition, on each visit she unearths inspirational objects as the motifs for her next scarf design. This time she set her heart on a 19th-century trade catalog of hunting and coachman’s whips, switches and other pieces from the collection. Her imagination completes the ensemble with braided leather straps and carvings in wood and ivory. The strict diagonal of whip-handles embellished with carefully aligned globes and dog or horse heads contrasts with the supple, sinewy network of forms in buckled and intertwined leather straps.

The story behind

Based on the Washington's Carriage scarf design.
In 1789, George Washington, the newly appointed first president of the United States of America, made his way from his New York residence to Federal Hall to give his inaugural address. Before a delighted crowd, the president was escorted in a sumptuous carriage decorated with spread eagles that was depicted three years later in a watercolor in the manner of a coach-builder by J. Robert Hart, “Profile of the Carriage of George Washington made in London. Drawn in 1792”. This scarf is inspired by the watercolor. We like to think it’s an exact representation of the carriage that was part of that historic day!

The story behind
Based on the Bolduc au carré scarf design.
The bolduc ribbon has been an Hermès signature since it was adopted by the house in 1949. The simple and elegant bolduc with its dotted border evoking the famous saddle stitch becomes, in the hands of Caty Latham, an intricate weave, a picture in a perfect square. The long, fine strips crisscross and interlace to conceal and reveal the carriage and groom playing hide-and-seek in this multitude of tiny squares. The surface appears to vibrate, catching the eye like a mosaic.

Based on the Animapolis scarf design.
Zebras, dinosaurs, monkeys and toucans wreak gleeful havoc within the walls of a fantasy city. Every detail tells a story. A dragon lays siege to the Warsaw Palace of Culture and Science, a panther sets its sights on the Kremlin, and a bear and crocodile are in cahoots outside Moscow's St. Basil's Cathedral. Onlookers at the windows of Hermès Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris have front row seats to the delightful spectacle. Animapolis is an exuberant composition by Jan Bajtlik, a graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. This is his first scarf design for Hermès.

The story behind
Based on the Faubourg Rainbow scarf design.
Let's dive into the 60s and 70s, at the heart of a psychedelic dream. Flower power is in full swing, the hippie philosophy is taking over the world, and peace, love and non-violence rule supreme in this waking dream. Faubourg Saint-Honoré is invaded by flowers, clouds and rainbows with multicolored outlines, polka dots and streaks of color bursting out of every corner. Hermès is peacefully bombarded by an army of rainbows, an invasion of incredible vegetation, and the cumulus and the nimbus penetrate through all the windows in the building!

The story behind
Based on the Les coupés Tattoo scarf design.
The Petit Coupé de ville is depicted in a 19th century equestrian carriage catalog, with one horse and a servant near the coachman; the Coupé de Poste, seated behind and safe in front; the Coupé d'Orsay, launched by a style icon; the Comte d’Orsay, the Coupé Carré, the Coupé à caisse ronde, and more.
In the late 19th century, the first motor carriages simply replaced the horse with an electric battery, but kept the same undercarriage for passengers. In June 1898, the Automobile Club of France organized a motor cab show. First released in 1970, the Les Coupés scarf is a composition of the fronts and sides of different carriages. It looks like a child’s puzzle to be taken apart and put back together. Very simple flat colors and shapes lend an almost abstract feel to this perfectly balanced composition. For this collection, the graphic aspect is further enhanced in a two-tone variation.

The story behind
Based on the Jungle Love Rainbow scarf design.
One of Robert Dallet’s most famous drawings, Jungle Love, is reinvented here with a colorful treatment that alters our perception of it. The design is over-printed with multicolored stripes, like a filter superimposed on this tender scene. Two powerful, sleek leopards approach and observe one another, playing out their courtship ritual under the permanently astonished, round-eyed gaze of a bushbaby nestled among the leaves. Surrounded by orchids, butterflies and birds, paradise flycatchers, bee-eaters, sunbirds and lovebirds, the scene is full of emotion.
