@ bigakoya or anyone else Would you buy a Chanel GST with tarnish on the zipper and gold ring? Or should I wait?
Otherwise the handbag is in very good condition.
I am thinking of getting this fixed from bag restorer repairer type, don't think Chanel will offer as I've brought it second hand.
Hi! Is the gold tarnished, flaking off, or just fading? And how bad? If it's a little, I would not worry about it. If it's a bit more, I would take it to a handbag/leather repair shop that handles luxury bags. I am sure they will repair it. I doubt Chanel will repair your bag for free because it is very old and they will just it is due to wear and tear, and not a defect say from a new bag. But I have no problem at all with a little fading given these are older vintage bags. To me, the condition of the leather is more important.

This is the bag I'm talking about. I didn't mind the bag softening, looks pretty good to me. However, I'm not experienced with preloved Chanel buying process so want to ensure I can get a decent bag at good quality for decent price. + I need the help from all you lovely ladies here. I don't want to rush and am willing to wait.

I think the bag looks great. I would not touch a thing. You know the old saying “don’t fix it if it ain’t broke”. Sometimes the more you mess with things the more it becomes a Frankenstein bag vs. a nice original well loved bag. The sag is minimal by the way, looks great.

For a comparison and to ease your mind, I took a photo of my zipper pull and it is worn too, so no big deal.

One thing I would ask is to be sure all the screws are on each strap ring. I know in the past a few folks mentioned a screw was missing. There are two screws per ring. I posted a photo of my black GST so you can see the exact spot I’m talking about. The seller seems to be detailed oriented, so I am sure all screws are in tact otherwise, it would have been noted. It would be good to ask though to be sure.

This bag looks to be the one! I am so happy for you. The leather looks great too!

Hi everyone. Can anyone please guide me on this? I have a Chanel PST and purchased a GST from a trusted reseller. But the leather handles of the GST are thinner than those of the PST. Overall leather on the bag is Also thinner than that on the PST. Is this normal?

Unfortunately the purse forum currently doesn’t have an Authenticator for Chanel, you will need to seek a private paid authentication service. Only members of the official tpf authentication team are allowed to offer opinions on authenticity, good luck.

Hi, does anyone know if Chanel will replace a screw I am missing on the ring holding the chain strap to the bag?
I have been told they don't repair anything that is older than 10 years. Also, I bought my bag pre-loved so I don't have a receipt or authenticity card. Thanks

Hi! Technically, if your bag is not older than 10 years, Chanel should be able to do a repair. However, the problem I think might be that the GST is discontinued (was discontinued in 2015). I would definitely call them and ask if they will repair it. As FYI, when I sent in my bags to Chanel for repair/spa, they have never asked me for a receipt or authencity card. I have sent in bags purchased from a Chanel boutique which they would have my purchase on file, but also bags purchased from Saks which they would not have on file.

If Chanel says no... there is plan B!
I would suggest contacting Santana Leather Care. They repair and restore high end bags, including Chanel and Hermes. They are excellent, so good they have locations at Bergdorf and NM. They are a bit pricey, but they are worth it. I have a colleague who also lost one of her screws in her GST. I told her to go to Santana. No problem... they actually had an original Chanel screw (I think it's because Chanel actually contracts them out to do repairs also). That was about 6 years ago, so it was a long time. Even so, I am certain they will be able to find a matching screw. The good new is the GST is a classic. there are tons of them out there, and they are sent in often for repair/reconditioning. I would not worry... you bag will be fine! Here is their link:

I hope that helps. Good luck to you!

They should repair for you (but for a charge). I have a seasonal flap that lost it's medallion and I took it into Bond Street and they sent it off for repair. £50 for the medallion but it was worth it to me!
