When it comes to interesting and appealing designs, I'm willing to spend a little more time brushing my Hermes shawls to keep piling at bay and live with them however they make them.

My only experience with a Chanel cashmere shawl had to be returned in less than 12 hours due to a hole from their label and I had a Chanel SA tell me runs were perfectly normal and part of the experience.

I understand Loro Piano shawls to be wonderful but I don't know of anyone with designs like Hermes.

I totally agree - I have told myself to be happy with my older, pre-issue CSGMs and to wait for some real improvements, but I find the patterns so irresistible. And now with so many black/whites on the horizon...oh H, why do you do this to me?!?

actually most of their cashemere Hermes sources at Loro Piana, so the quality of it should be the same.

Definitely not the same. I can take a pic of the interior of my jacket - after many wearings, it's perfect!

Sometime between 1987 and now, it seems to me that Hermès must have changed the way they weave their CSGMs, because my understanding is that one of the new ones would never stand up to the sort of aggressive wear I've subjected mine to for the past 28 years. What do you think? Does anyone else have a CSGM as old as mine, and is your experience similar?

I have had similar experiences.

Congratulations on your continued good health!!! [emoji322]

not really a fan but just to share with you

Actually, I LOVE these for my boys.

Wow, that is so great your shawl has stayed in such fantastic condition! I would love to see photos of how it's looking!

I have a few myself and they are showing signs of wear (mostly piling and a few tiny pulls here and there), and my oldest one is probably only 4 years old. Regardless, I still love them to death! It would be even better if they were the same quality as yours though!

Here are a couple of closeup photos. I don't know if it's obvious on the computer screen, but the colors are still as bright as they were in 1987, and there's no pilling. Also, the fabric hasn't gotten thin in any places, and there isn't a single pull. As I said before, I have not babied it; it's just woven very tightly. But it has a lovely, soft, drape-y "hand." Very comforting on a chilly evening!

Wow, that is truly amazing! It has no piling at all! The condition is amazing for a 28 year old scarf.

My new scarves look older than yours :wtf:

Wow. That's amazing!!!!! I guess I never missed what I never had... but seeing this is eye opening. And sadly for me (who purchases multiple CSGMs every season)... proof of the inferior quality nowadays.

Well, it was eye-opening for me to hear that current buyers were having problems with their CSGMs. I guess I've just never thought much about mine. I assumed it would stand the test of time... and it has.

I wonder what the difference is? Is it a problem with the materials they use now, or is it a problem with the weaving technique? Or a combination of both?
