The Dumbest Reason You Ever Gave For Buying a Bag

I’ve sought out and purchased older bags that get rave reviews on purse forum because I had to see what the fuss was about. I didn’t necessarily plan on using the bags but wanted to experience the awesomeness for myself. Two examples: A chèvre leather Balenciaga and an old school Rebecca Minkoff MAB. The leathers on both really are all that.

The next one I might buy just to see for myself is a polene.

So your dumb excuse was to see what the fuss was about here on tPF?

Reviews are indeed powerful. To add fuel to the fire, I love Polene! Nice and durable, and I love all the designs! Polene were basically my first designer handbags that I bought myself, and after I got them, I went into luxury stores to try on the famous, high-end luxury handbags. To each their own, but I didn't find a handbag I liked more than the Polene ones I have. Not to mention they cost more! Polene is really fast with shipping, and it's easy to do returns, so why not try one (or a few)?

Honestly I don’t know whether to be terrified or insanely happy.

I'm a newbie right, and I just find it so shocking that people recommend Chanel and Hermes as bags everyone should have, when they cost thousands and tens of thousands of dollars! Lots of influencers will offer or recommend budget options of course, and recognize these bags cost a lot of money! But I've been watching Chinese handbag videos too, and so many of them recommend Chanel classic flap as a person's first bag! For young women and young professionals who most likely don't make a lot of money, saving up for a Chanel classic flap would take a long time. I think anyone can go after whatever bag they want, but for some people, hearing these kinds of things can also make a person feel like they have to spend this much money.

If somebody on youtube is telling you to jump of a cliff, it’s still up to you to follow that advice. You can do it, don't do it or do something similar. If you don't want to jump of a cliff but it gets in your head, then it's time to cut back on your socials.

Don't spend money that you don't have or don't want to part with. If you think you need a certain bag to feel validated you should take a look at your friends or a deep look inside. Bags should be a lot of things but if the idea of one is making you feel less about yourself that is far from okay

Good advice for everyone! I don't spend much time on social media, and I definitely do not have anyone in my social circles that care about materialism or consumerism. If I cared about impressing people, I'd be more popular if I told people about books I was reading or pursuing further education.

I think I misread your last sentence. I read your last sentence as if you felt pressured to go for designer bags but that wasn't the case at all. I'm so sorry, it was a long day

This is me having a conversation with myself.
I’m turning 33 this week (I currently have 32 mix of designer/contemporary/no name bags..so I should really add one more).
It’s also my wedding anniversary week.
Also Mother’s Day coming up.
Plus it’s a wish list item.
But but but I should really just put the $ aside for the kids/future/emergency/invest and so on and so forth.
But I want the damn bag.
Hahaha.
