Best - Dolce&Gabbana 2022 year of a tiger tote bag. It’s colorful and flashy and yet it goes with everything. It’s perfect to dress up any boring work outfit and yet it goes well with casual items too. It’s it’s my perfect travel bag!

Worst - LV Artsy bag. Couldn’t wear it at all, wore it maybe 3 times max. The handle is so stiff and hurt my shoulder. It was way too big and uncomfortable so I gave it away.

Great thread idea! I'd advise everyone to go into the stories of the best and worst, it's really helpful to understand our likes, needs and tastes.

In many ways all the bags I have are the BEST otherwise they'd be gone, but since we're talking purchase, let's talk value. Category: Practical, everyday bags for every day.

Taking into account CPW for a practical bag:
Best: Hermes Evelyne (Black Clemence 29 ghw). I find it really hard not to use this bag every day. Bearing in mind I hated the look of this bag on so many SM and IRL, it took some mod pics on some cool-looking urbanites for me to change my mind - that, and they newly made gold hardware. I'm happy that I went for black too.

Worst: Prada light-green suede/leather convertible back-pack/shoulder bag. Short version: It didn't work as a backpack nor as a shoulder bag and the colour was too light for me in what should have been a practical style (especially in suede). After only twice using, the lining was 'pulling' at the seams. I think it was the last time I bought a Prada bag. It was stored until I gave it away. That's a lot of money per wear.

Lessons for me:
1. Practical bags need to be in practical colours (@GraffS tiger bag is an example that doesn't have to mean boring).
2. There is a reason why classics are around for so long
3. Cross-bodies suit me for everyday wear
4. Find your style tribe (or approximate) wearing the bag (or similar) for objective reasoning.
5. Practical bags need to be in practical, durable leathers

Best - white Celine triomphe shoulder bag, canvas with the beige monogram print. I really wanted a white bag (I think they're so chic!), but was concerned about getting it dirty (I'm not a careful person). Found a very happy medium with the triomphe canvas. The base color is an off-white but it's not all white. It was my first monogram bag as well, which I was a little hesitant about but I'm glad that the logo is more of a shape/design than words/letters. But I love carrying this bag! It's just the right amount of casual but also can dress an outfit down (which is important in Southern California, because not everyone likes to wear business casual like me  ). It's my grab and go to bag in the spring/summer and I have to stop myself sometimes from reaching for this bag so often haha, try to show my other bags some more love.
And a small plus, I'm so glad I got it when it was $2200, because I probably would not have paid $3K for a canvas bag lol. :P

Worst - That's a bit tricky. I think it's a toss-up between a Chloe bag and the YSL denim puffer.
The Chloe bag was a beautiful bag, goatskin, nude, gold hdw, turn-lock closure, but it was a very spontaneous buy because it was on sale, 20 or 30% off retail price, and I didn't think about it and got it. I soon realized that the closure was too big and heavy for the soft goatskin and I could see potential creasing and sagging in the future and sold it before it could happen. (This was actually my very first luxury bag ever.)
The YSL denim, to be fair, I wanted a denim bag, but I never realized how little I would reach for it. It was also a spontaneous buy with the general thought of wanting a denim bag but not doing that much research. I wore it maybe 5 times in the past 2 years? Ended up selling it as well, with a bit of loss (but not too bad because it was basically new condition).

(Going with @papertiger 's idea)
Lessons learned:
1) Don't get suckered into buying something just because it's on sale (by yourself or anyone else)
2) Do your research
3) Give yourself time to think about it to make sure it will most likely work for your lifestyle and aesthetic
4) Be patient

Random thought, I've realized if it's a spontaneous bag purchase, I usually end up regretting it or just stop reaching for it eventually. But if it's a spontaneous jewelry purchase, it always works out well and I love it for years! (perhaps my instincts are more attuned to shiny things )

Worst: LV pink denim bag. impulse purchase in Nice France. Sold off. it was denim fabric, didn’t go with much.

Best: (cost effective) my 2009 chanel classic flap purchased for only ~2k which still looks as good as new.

(most used) my go to lately is my gold phw c18. I really like that it fits all my essentials, can be worn crossbody, and goes with everything. If I’m running to the store or quick errand, I’ll just grab my azur zippy wallet.

Best as in most practical, lightweight with zippers & some pockets so it's easy to use in all weather: two coach outlet bags from about a decade ago. Just showing some wear now but still useable. Wish I could find more like them.
Best as in most beloved: either black patent Ricky , it's so beautiful and I've never seen another like it , or red patent RL collection bag because it's well made and I love the happy pop of color ( it's the bag that gets the most compliments).
Worst are my two Bvlgari bags, beautiful but both needed repair very quickly and the customer service was appalling. They came back to me after service somewhat squashed as well . I'm totally turned off by them now.

I’ll start with mine

Out of 12 bags…

Best - Loewe puzzle bag (the leather is supple, it is lightweight and I love the color dusty pink)

Worst - Tory Burch straw bag (not the fault of Tory Burch, it just wasn’t the right size. Too big. Bought it online so I wasn’t able to try it on)

To add @papertiger's idea on lessons learned:
This is my personal experience, doesn't apply to all - Never buy anything I haven't seen in person. I usually go to stores in my country or outside my country to see it first. I rarely buy immediately after seeing it. I usually think about it, return to the store or buy online. I need to see it first just to make sure the size is right for me, if the leather is something I love (can't touch it from photos) and the color looks great on me.

Although Chanel 19 is not my worst purchase, I'd say it was my 2nd worst purchase. TBH, it was love at first sight when I saw the online photos. This is also another bag I didn't get to see in real life before buying. It felt underwhelming when I received it. The leather wasn't as soft as I expected. Surprisingly, my Coach Madison pillow bag, also made of lambskin and 10x cheaper, is so much more buttery and soft. I don't know why. Anyway, still, I tried to love it. After the fourth time of using it, I decided to sell it. The chains kept on catching my long hair, the strap slips from my shoulders, and I often worry about it having more creases (although bag organizer and bag pillow greatly helps retain the shape). It just didn't feel good wearing it anymore. I didn't feel confident and comfortable. There is also the thought if it will become outdated soon and selling later will make me lose more money. Acquiring and using a bag is supposed to be a fun experience, not anxiety-inducing.

The color of your Chanel bag is lovely!

Best: a tossup between my LV mini Deauville which is one of my most worn bags (I love how casual it is for weekends) and my Chanel reissue 226 (it's my "special occasion" bag) which has almost doubled in price since I bought it...I'm so glad I have it in my collection because there is no way I can justify the price today.

Worst: my red Celine classic box bag only because I don't really wear it. I absolutely love the look of it and consider it one of the most beautiful bags in my collection. But in the 4 years I've had it, I think I've only worn it out 3 times. Yet I can't bear to part ways with it (partly because the resale value isn't great, partly because I keep hoping I'd wear it more).

Best so far, but I don't carry all that often these days: beloved Speedy 30 Damier Ebene. Flawless in dodgy weather, doesn't age at all, makes me look put together in whatever clothing I'm likely to be wearing. There's a reason it's a classic.

Worst: Mark Cross small Grace Box bag in red, simply gorgeous but so impractical. Like carrying a 1950s child's jewelry chest held vertically. All it needed was a spiraling ballerina to pop up on the interior.

Best: It’s a toss up between my Coach Cassie and my two Coach Willow Totes 24. They are great everyday bags. No muss. No fuss.

Worst: Chanel Twisted Flap. I LOVE that bag. It’s cool and edgy. However, I have come to the realization within the last year that I obviously don’t like red bags. I’m not a fan of black or neutral handbags. Therefore, I don't ever try to match my outfits to my bags. I carry the bag that I need for the day. However, I own three red bags and can count on one hand that I’ve carried those three bags. However, I’m not getting rid of them. I do pull them out to use ever so often.
