Hi Max Mara coats fans! Any recommendations on how to efficiently pack a Max Mara coat for travel? I just use the garment bag but was wondering is there any other way to do it to save space? Maybe a large packing compression cube? air vacuum bag? Not planning on wearing it on the plane.

Thanks in advance!
I personally wouldn't compress the coat as it might make it a bit wrinkly. What I have done in the past is either use a garment bag to pack or wear it on the plane but then have the flight attendants hang it up right away when you get on. Just don't forget to get it afterward when you land!

I hope you managed to get your black Manuela while on sale.
Have you had your old one for a long time? The reason I’m asking is because I have had my beige one for a few years now (I think 3..or maybe 4🤔) and it still looks great but I feel that the black one I got last year would hold better over time than the beige. I would say I wear them equally but I just find that the black one feels stiffer - not in a bad way (I don’t really know how to describe it)
Do you still love your red Manuela as much as before? I still don’t think I could pull it off but I really like it 😅
Hi! Oh... such drama foir me on coat colors these past days!
First, to answer your question... my black Max Mara is about 5 years, and my camel is about 4 years as I recall.
Both look fine, and most people would not see it. However, I am picky when it comes to detail, and if I really looked at the fabric closely, I can see tiny little fuzzy camel hairs starting to roll up on the fabric. You can see it more on the camel color vs black because it's a lighter shade. To be fair though, I wear my coats in the rain, in the snow, toss them in the plane overhead bin, etc... They get a beating, but these coats are tough and last.

The one thing I do love about the camel color is that you can see the beautiful Max Mara top stitching. I see it so clearly on my camel coat and red coat. The top stitching is lost on my black coat because the fabric is so dark.

On the Saks sale...
After I ordered the black coat, all day, my gut said to me... "another repeat black coat?" :frown::heart:
This is because I have been trying to get away from wearing so much black these past two years. Hence, I kept thinking maybe I should have gotten the camel. I love camel coats, so gorgeous, but it's not a coat color I grab regularly.
However, Succession and the quiet luxury theme has influenced me to rethink the camel color.

So...
I decided, this year, I'm going to wear a long camel color coat as part of my rotation! No black! Hence, I ordered the camel too. For sure I will keep the camel as I really want to start wearing this shade. This is especially since I recently purchased a bunch of cashmere sweaters that will work better with a camel coat vs. a black coat.

I am not sure if I will keep the black. I will decide once it arrives and see how "new and fresh" the black looks compared to my current black coat.

One thing I plan to do differently is keep the sleeves long and not shorten them. I'm 5' 2", so in the past, I shortened the sleeves for them to fit like a normal coat. However, I really like the oversized longer sleeve theme that has been on the runways these past few years (it seems everything is oversized, wide, or loose these days). For the red Manuela I bought last year, I decided to kept the sleeves long (e.g. no alterations). I wanted to see how I would like it. I actually loved it, and it worked really well last year with my sweaters.

That was another one of my reasons for buying new coats as I wanted longer sleeve lengths.

Red...
I love love love my red Manuela. A red coat is a neutral, yet the color makes a glamorous and confident statement.
I love it worn casually with a sweater and wide leg jeans.

I hope you try on the red. You never know, you may love it!
To me, a red coat is very different than a red sweater. I don't wear red sweaters, too loud for me against my face and just the top half of my body. That's just me of course.

However, a red long coat is chic and stylish to me, not cha cha cha, if that makes sense and if that's your worry.
Max Mara's red is a nice deep, rich red. Maybe order it while it's still available to see how you like. Red is seasonal, and I am surprised it came back again this year. Maybe it will be a permanent color, who knows.

If you don't think you would wear a red Manuela but want something red, how about a red Adesso?
You mentioned you liked the Adesso, and it comes in red. Although, I must say, there is something about a teddy themed jacket/coat in the classic brown shade, like a fuzzy bear!

I would love to see some mod pictures of your red Manuela if you’re comfortable sharing. I have been considering a red coat and think of a red coat as a neutral as well.

Hi! I'm not a modshot person (shy on that front), but I can tempt you with some crazy glove & mitten photos I posted last year.

I bought the matching red Max Mara leather gloves. I also bought the white Teddy mittens (they do not come in a matching red)... I love the Teddy mittens.

You can see the red Manuela sleeves in the photo to give you an idea of the shade. The red shade looks more like the photo with the white mittens, even a bit deeper (I am terrible at taking good photos).

I agree with you... red is a neutral, especially when it comes to coats. A classic.
I say go for the red Manuela! Maybe order one, and try it on in the comfort of your home. I do think you will love it!

Hi! Update on my Manuelas...
My two Manuelas, the black and the camel, arrived! I totally love love love the sheen of new camel hair fabric. I also really love the original longer sleeve length on me (I had my older Manuela sleeves shortened so those sleeves fit me normal).

Hence, I decided I will keep both colors. Yippee! I'm so happy I refreshed both these colors. My husband especially loves the sheen of a new coat, so he said "keep both colors." I said "okay!":heart:

@baghagg
You will get a kick out of this. Since both the black and camel color Manuela coats are new, I again noticed the belt on the black Manuela is a bit shorter. I decided to measure all three of my new Manuelas: black, camel, and red. I bought the red last winter 2022, so technically, it's not "new" 2023 stock.

Lo and behold, every belt is a different length! The camel color is the longest, then red, then black! The black is shorter than the camel by 10" (25cm). It's totally crazy how each color has a different length belt.

Here is a photo to show the difference. I thought you would get a kick out of it.

You must have ESP!!! I was JUST thinking about you and your extreme knowledge in this and other threads here on TPF, as well as the belt lengths on this coat AND the great tip you provide me here on this forum about the new feature to order belt replacements from MM website!!! The fact that all your belt lengths are different for the same coat doesn't shock me, but it's strange considering your coats are all the same size! I also love that you have it in 3 colors! We are kinder spirits in this department :hbeat: I also thought of you today when I put my Manuela (Camel, I love it) coat on and looked at my sleeve length and wondered what you would think of it! My husband thinks I should have them shortened, but I thought of what you wrote here recently about sleeve length and I just don't know...

I hope you keep it long! The oversized look, especially longer sleeve lengths has been the look for a while. It looks great with this Manuela wrap coat as it's a loose coat look to begin with. The long sleeve look is also popular now for sweaters as you probably know. Hence, with longer sleeve sweaters, a longer sleeve coat works great to me.

For my red Manuela, I purposely kept it long to see how I would like it.
I showed my husband, and he said the same thing as your husband. My husband thought it was too long.
I told him the look I want is the oversized, squishy, wrapped coat look. The sleeve width on the coat is already loose, so the longer sleeve length just flows nicely.

If you stare at yourself for a modshot, it's not fair to stand fully straight with your arms down. No one looks like that in real life. In real life, when people wear their coats, they are moving. If you are talking, you arms are moving and bent, so you still see your hands. If you are standing outside in the freezing cold, odds are your hands are in your pockets, or you are wearing mittens/gloves.
Hence, the whole look works together, so it's not fair to just stare at yourself in the mirror standing still with your arms to your side.

Think The Row and Khaite coats and sweaters. The sleeves are super long, a bit too long for me, as their sleeves go past my fingers. The Manuela's sleeves kept full length works great for me. Slightly long, but my fingers still peek out.

Try it and see if you like it. Wear it with one of your sweaters with longer sleeves.
If you hate it, you can also shorten it, but be sure. One you shorten, it's too late to go back. You'll have to buy another Manuela.:heart:

The Manuela sleeve length works either way, so you can't go wrong. It's just more the look you prefer. The longer sleeves gives it more a chic oversized vibe to me.

I am glad to hear you love the camel color. I am really liking it more too.

Ahh, so happy for you! Enjoy wearing your brand new Manuelas🥰
I completely understand what you mean about the length of the sleeves, definitely makes a difference and it’s so satisfying to put your coat on and love how it fits, without having to compromise xx

@BigAkoya you make SUCH great points (as usual) about sweater sleeves being longer, needing coverage, etc. and the fact that we're never, ever standing with our hands straight down at our sides! Just walking and carrying a great bag in one hand, phone in the other (of course 🤣, duh) takes up slack in the length! Thank you for enlightening us all, always!
Ps: How is the wear and tear on your previous Manuelas over time? I was thinking this might be a coat I shouldn't wear a shoulder strap bag with (maybe fragile?), but maybe I'm overthinking it...
Also, love the pics of your sleeves/mittens, gloves. Very creative🥰

The Manuela is super durable. Camel hair fabric, in addition to being warm, is quite durable. The hairs are longer; hence, it also does not pill. Over the years, the hairs get this fuzzy bubbly look but it does not "pill" in the sense of loose balls.

I have used my coats a lot when traveling (and I travel quite often on business). When I travel, I lug a super heavy tote on my shoulder. The tote is so heavy, I use one of those padded shoulder straps, but my coat has no issues at all.

As for weather, camel hair fibers are naturally water resistant. I have worn my coat in the snow, and there was no problem.
This coat is meant to be worn and worn often. It's durable.

The Max Mara Manuela is an icon coat, and it's not only because the style is gorgeous, but because these coats are durable and have stood the test of wear & tear. I bet there are people who have Manuelas that are over a decade old.

Speaking of camel hair fabric, not just the Manuela...
I have a Max Mara coat bought in 2010. It is black camel hair. The camel hair has that typical "bubbly" look from being worn (e.g. the "ripples" are a bit lost). Yet the fabric is still solid, no holes, no wear spots, none of that.
It's hard to describe the camel hair "ripple" look of a fresh coat, but since your coat is also new, stare at it and you can see what I mean. Over time, the “ripples” will soften to more a "bubbly" look. I'm not a fabric expert, so this is probably the worst description of camel hair, but I hope you get the idea.

Camel hair is tough... don't worry, enjoy your beautiful coat! Wear it with everything!

Now that I've gone down a rabbit hole, I need to finish it up... new matching mittens and leather gloves!
As you already know, I am a mittens lover. I think they are so cute when worn.

I am going to get these matching mittens for my camel color Manuela. I will wait for Black Friday to see if they go on sale. I can't imagine these will sell out as I see them sold on many websites (e.g. MM, Saks, BG, NM).
FYI in case you might like it too.

I know EXACTLY the ripple effect you speak of, it what drew me to this particular coat in the first place! Thank you for this detailed description! I can't picture the bubbles, but I guess time will tell.. So glad to hear you find this style/fabric composition to be durable. The mittens are just perfect, I love them!

Hi all! I’m thinking about buying my first Max Mara coat.

Thoughts? ☺️ I also found it available elsewhere but I’m concerned about the huge price difference. I know End Clothing is supposed to be legit, but are they even the same coat?

It's not the same coat. The coat in your link has too many buttons. Plus, do you see the fat hem on the sleeves? The original Teddy does not have a sleeve hem like that.

The coat on your website... see there are 6 buttons and look at the hem of the sleeve.
The coat on the website is the Max Mara Runway Teddy coat. Based on the description, it looks super super oversized...Maxi Teddy, which may be what you want. There are always new "Teddy" versions coming out, so it's up to you if you want the original or a seasonal.

The original Teddy (photo from Max Mara website)... count the buttons, and look at the hem of the sleeve. Totally different coat.

Found your runway coat on the Max Mara website:

It's quite big, and it's also longer at 130cm vs. 110cm (51" vs. 43"). That's a really long coat in my opinion.
For me, I would go with the original. I think the original Teddy is oversized enough. Plus, I'm not a fan of the sleeve hems of the Maxi Teddy coat. Those stitches at the hem will cause the puffy Teddy fabric to flatten near it, and I prefer a totally puffy look on the sleeves for the Teddy look. It's up to you though and what you prefer.

Hope this helps. Good luck deciding!
