If people like Taylor and also Leo DiCaprio think “buying carbon credits” reverses the damage.. get real!!
Listen.. I live in a heavily taxed carbon country.. and this is such a load of bull. Money doesn’t reverse environmental damage!

Anywho… Taylor’s people can stick to the donations she made to all the food banks, etc. she does give to a lot of causes. We’ll have to agree to disagree that the Environment is one of them.

ETA- plastics are banned where I live and we recycle and compost everything here. But my cardboard straws don’t offset this stuff!!

I know carbon credits don’t do anything. My point was at least they’re doing the gesture and I’m sure there are many, many more out of the public eye who do not. The carbon credits are more of a token gesture. It may not do much, but I guess the gesture is better than nothing.

The last two super bowls had the most private jet traffic for any event in history. I’d like to know how many of those people bought carbon credits to offset their trip. My guess is not many.

Taylor must be aware of the criticism because we don’t hear her preaching about saving the environment while jetting all over the place.

In fact, she’s not so high on the list of worst offenders, she just happens to be on our radar because she is high profile.

I'm picking on Swift because this is her thread. I know other billionaires are also destroying the planet and do not care as long as they have a fast, comfy ride to their destination. Let their children suffer the consequences.

I do wonder if you would also be going all over the place as you said. Wouldn't your guilty conscience kick in or do we lose our sense of shame when we become powerful and extraordinarily wealthy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Back to Swift on another topic - what happened with that leaked contract about her Travis breakup? Something just made up by someone?

Eh, it would probably cross my mind but I don’t envision it changing my behavior. I don’t mind flying on a plane with other people (so long as they behave). I’ve looked in to chartering private for a trip but can’t justify the price vs. simply flying first class. Private jet ownership 100% unlikely to happen for me so impossible to predict.

If I had a life and business world like Taylor Swift, I’d probably do as she does. I expect once her tour ends she won’t be meting around as much. But in a sea of offenders it’s not reasonable to make her the poster child for private jet abuse.

Yes, it really became a bigger issue with the tour, because she was using the plane between stops and trips back to record on off days in NYC. Before that I remember when this was brought up in the past , it was her plus the plane had been rented out a lot too. I imagine with the last dates of the tour coming up it will bring at end to at least an "excessive" amount of trips.

Unlikely though.

She got used to traveling the world in her jet and I can't see her sitting in one of her homes in Malibu, Beverly Hills, Rhode Island, Nashville or NYC, just cooking and playing with her cats.

TS and John Mayer ended their brief relationship Feb 2010. In his portion of the vid at Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards June 2010 he said [condensed]:

First of all she's ridiculously smart and present and aware. She's just got the germ, she's got the gene. Taylor is the world's biggest star who doesn't know she's a star. Taylor Swift is the last person to know she's Taylor Swift. I think it's nice for America to watch somebody appreciate. It's great to have someone who is hugely talented and still is able to receive the pleasure in all moments.

Every time I met somebody close to her in the industry, in publishing or management or a label, I would pull them aside and say Really, I won't tell anybody, I get this stuff, I'm on the inside too, who is writing those songs? Just tell me, it ends here and they would say she's writing those songs. And I would say OK I guess I can't chip away at you right now but I will find out who's writing those songs. And I asked her one night Honest to god, who is writing the songs? And she said I'm writing the songs. I didn't know where else to go with this; and we started playing guitars together one day and, sonovabitch, she writes her own songs.

She's not a product of a hype machine. Don't confuse a world of people loving one thing with hype. Sometimes that's just everybody agreeing that something is fabuious.

[Interviewer: Why did you decide to collaborate with her?] There's something about Taylor that she would've been a star in any decade and her voice is... I just thought in my little fantasy world if I was Tom Petty who would be Stevie Nicks? And it's like Taylor's this fresh voice and I don't normally make records to share tracks with people, I've never had someone else's name underneath the title of my song and I couldn't be happier that she's on there.

Is this 2010 Swift the same as the 2024 Swift, I wonder.
