Almost all celebrities have publicists working on their behalf. Some celebrities are extremely generous and some hold on to every penny for themselves. It’s their money and their choice.

They decide how generous they wish to be and whether they want it made public. Taylor gave a lot of money to the family of the deceased victim. Patrick and Brittany Mahomes visited two of the child victims at the hospital today. While it was a photo op that their publicist set up, the Mahomes gave their time and that was a nice gesture. Is one choice better than another?

I'd say that both are very nice gestures. I don't think either one needs to be held up to saint status, nor do they need to be held up as superior to other celebrities for doing it. What I look side eye at when it comes to Taylor is that often times, the things she does are presented as if they make her superior to any other human who ever saw a person in need. It's repeated over and over again that she gave her drivers a bonus - as if no other performer has ever thought of that. Many of the comments about her donation to the victim's family in the shooting lamented that the team had not done anything (yet). Doing good is doing good. If it's done, or talked about, to make a person superior over others, it loses the good.

they are both good gestures
I shallowly confess to liking Mahomes cause I think he's hot
IDK what the financial situation of the family of the woman who died is. If they have lost their breadwinner, the Mahomes could also make a financial donation

She has been popular for so long there is inevitably going to be a backlash that happens whenever anyone is successful beyond the expected expiration date. The Kansas City Chiefs are rapidly approaching that point and it won’t surprise me that if they make it to the Super Bowl next year we’ll hear people complaining about how they’re sick of them and want to watch another team.

Her publicists provide the media with the information but it’s up to the press to decide how it is presented to the public. They are responsible for the tone. I don’t follow her enough to see anything that makes her look superior but she is definitely overexposed.

I'm reacting to the ways that her fans react to those gestures more than the media. My Facebook memories remind me that I've been making comments for 10 years now about how I don't care for her music. And yet, if I dare to say something these days that is not in total praise of her, I'm bombarded by people pointing out her charitable efforts, talking about what a huge star she is, and calling me ****. The comments I saw today about her donation to the family which complained the Chiefs did not do the same were remarks from fans - not press outlets.

Don’t get me started about obnoxious fans, LibbyRuth. They live in a fantasy world all their own.

There has never been a famous person I’ve cared so deeply about. Now celebrities I don’t like, there’s plenty of those. I can tell some members feel that way about Taylor and I’m trying to see whatever you’re seeing but I’m not there yet.

I think people making $$$$$ have an ethical obligation to give back. How high profile people do it is up to them, and if doing it in a very public way suits them, then ok. At least they are being charitable.

I was reading about Taylor today and her charitable efforts. She does a lot that gets noticed and also a lot that does not. Back in the early days of her success, she would go on Tumbler and randomly give to people in need. Pay off debts, etc. She didn’t do that with press releases but on her own and word would just get out. Maybe there was motivation for good publicity, maybe not. But she was doing things to make someone else’s life a little better.

It’s nice that Mahomes went to see the kids. I’m sure they and their families enjoyed that. His net worth is reportedly $70 million and his football contract is something like $450 million. I would like to hear if he is able to help with any of those kids’ medical bills. Surely he can afford it if he can afford a Prada handbag for his two year old daughter. I’m sure the photos and visit were appreciated, though. But can he do more? Should he do more?

Lastly, the owners of the KC Chiefs’ net worth is $24 Billion. Would like to know if they plan to help any of the victims of the shooting.

Still waiting for Kelce’s gesture. Or is he coattailing off of his girlfriend?

Yes, I know they don’t have to. What happened is not their fault and they have no financial obligation to the victims. So if Taylor Swift felt that $100k was a fair price for good publicity, I can’t hold it against her. It’s her money. She didn’t have to do it. But hard to criticize it even if the motivation was transactional.

ETA: Money has come in…

I don't get why a small criticism is described as being so horrible. Yes, she gave money. She gives a lot. She also has a highly crafted public image and a publicist who works her butt off to make sure people are talking about her all the time.
I did not read your post before making this comment, it was not directed to you. :flowers:I agree that she IS doing it for PR, but she doesn’t have to do it is my point, plenty of billionaires in the world who just live their lives and I don’t fault them either.

Her boyfriend gave $100,000 from his charity to the two of the kids who were injured to help with their medical bills.

Taylor has generously given to other charities. Here's a donation I heard about last summer before her Eras tour stop at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. The amount hasn't been disclosed. This was posted by the food bank she donated to. (screenshot because I don't know how to embed a tweet).

According to this news article, she has been making donations in other locations as part of her US Eras tour leg, including Denver, where the Food bank of the Rockies said her gift would provide enough for 75,000 meals.

whatever the intent, money donated will help the family during what will be undeniably a difficult time.
Barbra Streisand wanted to have the Heart Center, she helped built not be named after her but then she understood that her name alone will drive more donations and give a sense of respectability to the hospital.
Yes, anonymous gift is of a higher calling but sometimes you need to be practical.
Kindness and generosity is contagious, imo.
So for showing a good example, Taylor deserves all the praise, imo.

💯💯💯

And for those who can’t give money, there are plenty of other ways to give back.
