Tax back from Paris?

Yes, when I make an appt, my SA can handle leather. Apparently, not all SAs can do this, but it cannot hurt to ask.
(But, I’m mainly a RTW client).
Speaking of RTW, in Paris do you have to have that in your carry-on to go through detax/customs, or can you pack it in your checked luggage (or mail it back to the US)?

How stringent are they with clothes/shoes/silks/SLGs? Do they treat them like leather?

I detached before I checked my luggage with no issues. I just arrived a little earlier to do so.

I am so sorry, I don't think I follow.

Are you saying you detaxed at CDG before checking luggage (i.e. got all the paperwork and approvals, etc.), then whilst at the airport you packaged those RTW items in your checked baggage (not carry-on), and then claimed them when the flight landed in US?

FSH can ship and they will do detaxe at register so you don’t even need to pay for 10 percent upfront but they will declare full value. Their shipping prices are pretty reasonable too imo.

I had 12 pages of Hermes receipts this trip and the customs man at CDG didn’t ask to see anything.

I detaxxed at CDG with all my luggage using the free cart from inside the terminal and claimed my purchases when I cleared customs. I kept my purchases organized for easy access if needed. I didn’t have a problem at detaxe or customs.

My reply was originally in this thread:

Note: In post 122, the quote was from the Paris thread (no longer applicable in this thread)

ok, great----so after you detaxed, you packaged your purchases into checked luggage and checked your purchases? You did not hand carry them onto the plane (in carry-on luggage) right?

Any worries or issues with checking your expensive H items?

Why does it matter what items I checked or not checked?

You can can check or not check whatever you want. My point is that it’s possible to take all your luggage to detaxe to be able to show them whatever they want to see (in the original packaging) and do whatever you want regarding checking in or not after after you detaxe as long as you remain organized for customs on the other side (ie have your receipts and be able to show them all of items if they want to see it).

Sharing … I was in Paris couple months ago. When leaving I went through CDG detax to scan my stack of forms. Went to see officer for the ones that flagged red. I checked in at my airline counter. Checked in my luggage that had most of my H and other purchases. I decided to carry on my b and fine jewelry I purchased for I personally was not comfortable checking those items. Once stateside I collected my check-in luggage, went to customs, paid and left. Hope this helps with your question at the end. Enjoy your trip!

No tax refund in this case as the person who asks for it must be the person who physically leaves the country, with the item.
Also, @crazybaglady9582 no VAT unless buyer presents foreign passport and address/ residence in another country
Yes but as @Martyp mentioned, no VAT refund unless you are leaving the country. The VAT counter representative at the airport approving the VAT form will ask for the plane ticket and match the name on the VAT form before approving the tax refund
@FrenchNewbie , i quoted the posts above bc I thought you asked whether one had to clear at the airport if Hermes can take care of processing remotely. The reason why you go through detax VAT at the airport is so that there is confirmation that the person who purchased the merchandise is leaving the country (and will pay their appropriate tax at their arrival home). It’s not actually meant to be tax free. (Apologies though if yhe query didn’t come from you)

I de-taxed at Gare du Nord and custom asked to see the merchandise I purchased so that they can make sure I am taking whatever I bought out of EU.

You are supposed to have your merchandise when de-taxed (meaning not checking bags before de-taxing). I think it depends on how tough custom is when you are leaving, if they need to check what you bought.

Maybe this thread should merge with this one? The 72+ pages of the much longer thread might help answer some of the questions being asked here....
